Some people think that only a Democrat governor can protect you, and your family from this virus,

Nobody actually thinks this.

However, ALOT of people believe that only democrat lawmakers are taking the threat seriously and taking the appropriate steps to protect the lives of the people that live in this country.

Republican lawmakers could easily take steps to slow the spread of the disease, they simply choose not to because: (1) they care about money more than human life, and (2) Trump has dictated the party line on this issue.

Democrats care about human life???Since when dude How's their abortion(aka Choice)issue ,did they finally give up on murdering babies???????

Florida is going to be a bloodbath when all is said and done, which is 100% the fault of the GOP because it has devolved into this bizarre death cult where they literally sacrifice the lives of their own voters to appease Lord Trump. And its not just Florida. Texas, Georgia, Arizona... all those red states are getting blasted now, and both republican lawmakers as well as the dipsh1ts that voted for them are just pretending that its not happening. Do you realize that the rest of the world is looking at the US as an example of what not to do during a pandemic?

You're an old timer, right? You oughtta thank sweet middle eastern Jesus that you live in a state with a democrat in the governor's mansion, because if good old "Death Sentence" DeSantis was the governor of PA, you would probably be dead by now.

I have a relative who is a Nursing Home Manager-
As soon as this virus came about in the US he immediately locked down- hard- before things started getting out of hand.
To date his Home has NO repeat NO incidents.
He did his primary job and protected his patients- and staff by putting their health above all else.

Same with my hometown facility. ย I don't remember the exact date but they definitely shut the facility down two weeks to 10 days before everything else was shut. ย No cases. ย Good on them. ย
ย
JM2...I'm with you, your mother is probably in the safest place she can be. ย I'm glad she's well. ย

I disagree with nursing homes being the safest place.ย  My wife works in a nursing home, and like the others mentioned here, they quickly locked it down, and have had no COVID cases.ย  While the lock-down certainly helped, I think the main factor is our area has had a low COVID presence.ย  I'd be curious to hear if any of the other homes mentioned were in "hot spots".
ย
The weak-link of all nursing homes is staffing issues.ย  The undesirable job duties and low pay make it extremely difficult to attract responsible workers.ย  Often these jobs are a last resort for prospective employees.ย  Many homes have relaxed their hiring criteria in an effort to fill the constant staff shortages. While the lock-down has stopped unnecessary visitors, it has done nothing to prevent a careless employee from bringing COVID in.ย
ย
Just another example of human life having a price tag.ย  Revamping Medicaid would go a long way to improving the lives of nursing home residents.

Well stated...I agree. Paying people a living wage for jobs we deem vital and allowing those people to feel important/appreciated in those jobs is a necessity. I have no idea what the hiring standards consist of where JM2โ€™s mom is but I completely recognize the truth of your statement.

Now if I may ask, in what way would "revamping Medicare", improve working conditions and other needed changes in PA nursing homes?

Approximately 65% of nursing home revenue comes from Medicaid.  From my experience, the Medicaid reimbursement is about 60 percent of the "private pay" rate.   There are many nursing homes in my area.  While it is not legal to discriminate, most of the nicer homes find a way to only take "private pay" residents.  The remaining facilities that willingly take Medicaid are run-down and horribly under-staffed.

To get quality employees, lower staff-to-resident ratio, and more private rooms, more revenue is needed.  The obvious answer is higher Medicaid reimbursement.

Is that the only obvious answer? At one time people were told that Medicare was the obvious answer. Somehow money sent to the government always seems to get lost, or misappropriated from it's intended use.

Re: Trump... 2020/07/03 23:54:57 (permalink)
Jerry I agree with you however, there is much discussion of "profit over patient" of which I also must agree with.

Profits by hospitals, nursing homes, ect. along with big increases in CEO pay have been taking place for years with little increase seen in the paychecks of the worker nor improvements in the facility.

At the same time, Gov Wolf has not increased medicare payments to nursing home facilities.

To offset the difference and maintain profit, private paying patients are paying more and definitely getting less for their money.

There is said to be 700 nursing homes in operation in PA with many owned and operated by outside corporations.

These corporations run a facility into the ground then sell off the nursing home or file for bankruptcy.

Many stories of nursing homes changing hands, leaving the residents hoping to see changes for the good but only have conditions deteriorate.

As we know, it's all about the money.

Ilhan Omar, United States Democrat Representative from Minnesota.

Calls for dismantling of American way of Life.

Here she is, folks. All the way from Islamic North Africa and elected to the House by all the Islamic constituents who flooded her district, willing and ready to take away the American way of life and institute her version of Marxist socialism for the good of the country. She couldn't get it done in her own country.

Omar
"We can't stop at criminal justice reform or policing reform. We are not merely fighting to tear down the systems of oppression in the criminal justice systems. We are fighting to tear down systems of oppression that exist in housing, in education, in health care, in employment, and in the air we breathe."

Now isn't that special? Isn't she guilty of marrying her brother to get him into the country? Isn't she accused of using $100 grand of campaign money illegally? This is why we need to come down hard on immigration. We're lettin' every crackpot and their brother into the country, and worse yet, we're lettin' them run the country.

For Liberals, whenever reality conflicts with ideology, it is reality that must change.

So, then you are arguing in favor of leaving systems of oppression in place?

Or do you lack the basic reasoning skills required to address the substance of what she said, so you resort to baseless ad hominem attacks?

Or maybe you just don't like people that are different than you (i.e. non-white, non-Christian)?

Actually, my guess is "all of the above".

Perhaps you could join Omar (in her country) and the two of you could fight to stop the oppression and free her people? (do let us know how that works out) .

Until then, perhaps you should stick your left thumb in your mouth then place your right thumb in your bassment annnnd wait, for Omar's command to switch.

Or do you lack the basic reasoning skills required to address the substance of what I said?

Because the systems of oppression that she's talking about is quite simply capitalism, the basis of American greatness, and it has been working just fine.

Or do you lack the basic reasoning skills required to address the substance of what she said, so you resort to baseless ad hominem attacks?

I don't lack those skills at all. After extrapolating from what she said, I have reasoned that she is a Marxist who came to this country, not to take advantage of all the US has to offer, but to change it, and I'll have no part of it.

I can't see getting riled up over some 1st term congresswomen. I understand that it's a central plank for Republicans this season...the socialization of the Dems and attendant damage to our way of life, but watch what is actually happening. Bernie went nowhere...Warren couldn't win her home state. Sleepy centrist boring Joe Biden is the nominee. Let the leftists flap their gums. I'm betting Joe's VP pick will look more like a "law and order" candidate than a leftist.
