Drift boat inn (used to be Tony's salmon country) just did their usual peak season open up. Probably will last three weeks tops. They are advertising rooms so I would imagine calling then RIGHt NOW for vacancy would be a smart move!!!

I guess I should refrain from posting before 9 AM, I can get, ah, testy fisrt thin g in the AM. Filed all my papers Thursday and Friday, I become a free man on October 23 at 16:30! Oh, that's right, I will still be married......

Just curious, when it comes to salmon fishing as compared to fishing up erie. Will there be a good number of fish in oak orchard by Oct. 10th? The reason why I asked if the temp plays a huge factor with it being a high of 60-65 still or the amount of rail the rivers or creeks will receive? Or do the biologic clocks just kick in or if they feel like letting out more water from the dam raising the cfs? Any input would be much appreciated! ty 

Slayer wanted me to mention that Days Inn in brewerton would probably have rooms and is closer than Cuse.

Spoke to a store manager of a big box outdoor place once by chance shortly after I retired. Spoke about the lousy choices of fishing gear so close to the Salt water during the height of Blue and Bass season and how the displays made one have to jump all over the place to put together even the basics of fishing.
Had spoken to some of the employees in the dept on occasion and none were more than occasional fresh water pond part time fishermen -some never had fished..
Said it seemed to be that they had tons of Largemouth Bass gear and little for trout or other species.
I was shortly called and offered a management job in that Department which I refused.
 Seems that 'corporate' did all of the buying for all the stores and ya had to deal with whatever they decided was appropriate and sent and sales were down..
Actually got approached a couple of times but it came out that I would have little to no input as to what to put on the shelves.
Just like Pulaski its the local shops that often have the best equipment and deals not to mention appropriate equipment.
Those SR shops - if ya look around- are great for prices and equipment specific to the area.

I worked for an Orvis Store for a few years.  They paid in Trout t***s!  Peddle that tweed, polish that brass!  But it was a franchise operation, so I don't know how the main company stores pay.  It did allow me to maintain as a fishing bum for a couple of years, and tie when it wasn't busy, and convinced me to go back to school and find something to do that would pay enough that I could afford some of the tackle. 

I always found Orvis to be more of a clothing store that sold a few fishing rods.  

There's an Orvis in Kenwood, outside Cincinnati.  If they send me a $25 coupon, I'll stop by.  I don't go there without a coupon.  I have never liked Orvis gear except their tippet spools.  And it seems when they have a sale, it's never on the good stuff.

Mostly my fault but returned and replaced none the less.
