Swap
Andy's thread about the relentless onslaught on the steel and the subsequent posts about why we go made me think about why I'm on this site and why I go to the river. Part of it has to do with the fish, part the river itself, part the people you enjoy it with. I doubt I can give it up entirely, just like HT can't. Just gotta ignore the A hats and find space with some friends. In light of that, and the fact we have a good bunch of guys here, I would like to propose another fly swap while we can have some time to tie before the season. Probably more than one fly and no eggs, unless they are in multiples. I'm going to add in a little sweetener. I'll do a drawing at the end and give a decent fly box like a Cliff or a C&F to whoever gets pulled from the hat. Not only that, to encourage fishing them, the first person to post a trib fish caught on a swap fly not theirs will get some ceramic nippers and a spool of tippet. We can have them in by Sept. 1st. I'll take care of return postage, just send flies in a returnable box/chew can/Altoids tin.... If guys are interested well, we'll do it..... Big Bear- received Uglyfish-received Fichy- Done

I am in as usual. I will tie my old faithful flies as well. They are simple caddis styles, but what I use the most

This is now the official sign up. I'll be away from the net for a few days, but will add whomever signs up when I get back from the coast . You're not getting ignored! Some productive flies already tied in. Thanks Jack and Clint, I've caught fish on both of your flies already.

The list is now closed. Please tie all patterns in multiples of 7 to send out (you won't get your own back). At least 2 patterns. So, minimum 14 flies. If you want to tie more, do it. Due date is Sept. 1. If you want to send some photos of what your tying as you go, that'd be great. Look forward to seeing, and better yet, fishing them. Happy tying!

Some production tying tips: Gather the materials for one pattern and place them in a flat container. Count out the number of hooks you need. If you're using a bead head, place it on the hook. Try to accomplish at least a half dozen at a sitting. The muscle memory will speed up after a few flies, might as well take advantage of it. Any material that needs to be cut, like Chenille, wire wrap, rubber legs, cut ahead of time. If you need to select feathers, do so, so you can just grab them and not select for each fly in the middle of tying. Use the best lighting you can possibly can. Bad light slows tying down by a considerable margin. You want to replicate, not experiment, so have the pattern firmly in mind when starting. Think about them catching fish! Sorry to bore those who have some of this ingrained in their tying habits or have much better protocols in place.

its all good I usually set out my hooks on how many I want to accomplish at a sitting it helps me stay motivated through the sometime long process. I do whatever I can to make it as painless as possible especially when I'm tying right before I need them. Since at anytime the phone might ring and I'm off to work. Best of luck guys and can't wait to give some different patterns a try.

Good advice Charlie , I will use that for sure. I'm usually a disorganized tier myself. I knew the time was coming but forgot about the swap . Gonna have to make some time to get tying . Is there any preference ? Salmon vs trout or would 1 pattern of each seem appropriate ? Totally not sure what to tie as I have been outta the loop for awhile and it is tough trying to give something that I'm sure everyone may already have so I will have to do some thinking . Good luck to all and lets nail that deadline :)
