Yeah I'm sure the waders won't get much use this year. I'll fill the freezer full of crappie and bluegills once we get some sort of routine going with the little one. As you said the outdoors can wait!

Welllllllll I went today only to find out Manning is froze over along with Espeyville. Wasn't a total loss as I got gasoline in Andover for forty cents a gallon cheaper than in my little piece of Penn's Woods.

Anyway, I found open water at Jamestown and enjoyed a day on the water. Until about 4:30 my time, when the wind began to pick up and heavier clouds began covering what sunshine there was.

Plenty of little fishy pictures on the sonar. Mostly in deeper (25' +) water holding on what appear to be large clouds of baitfish.

Worm harness with crawler was my bait of choice while thumping jigs fitted with various colors of twister tails was my, maybe might work, but didn't bait.

Neither did the crawler thingy.... stupid fish.

Water temp at the surface is 35 degrees.

Don't know what the Linesville area is like but there appeared to be, lots of floating ice north of the causeway at Espeyville.

BTDT thanks for the glance up north.  With the freeze coming tomorrow I might just wait for my inaugural run next Monday on the north end.
Thanks to all who chimed in with their thoughts and comments regarding mooring a boat at Linesville.
Kept weighing pro and cons, cause even though it's a pain to wait and launch, it might be just as big a pain to chuck all of that equipment from the jeep to the boat two or three times a week.
What finally tipped the scales was the state of PA.  I was just getting my head around the fact that to moor the boat there I would have to register it in Pa and change the stickers, numbers, etc. but then they hit me with I had to surrender my Ohio title and title the boat in Pa.  Now that's just plain greedy horse****.  The boat has been titled once in Ohio, why in God's name would I have to re-title the boat in Pa!!  Finally said the hell with it.  I'm sure my 16'  bow rope will be plenty long to launch by myself out of Linesville... Oh well, at least it SOUNDED like a good idea

Captain why didn't ya say something? Plenty of room in the FishHawk and I have a few extra fishing poles. Next time blow your car horn or shoot some flares in the air or something. Gotta bring your own coffee though.

I thought about anchoring off the point at the Pines but that stupid wind kicked up so I just went with the flow.

Initial plan was to fish the causeway at Linesville. Looks like next week for that idea.

Gonna miss that big ole red crane sticking up in the air but I bet the locals, will be happy to have full use of the "dam road" again.😒

Nice one BTDT. We got 60 more on Monday 11"-15.5" perch. Got steelhead but released them so the yellow ropers don't cry this fall. lol Three steelhead from the first trip is more than enough for smoked fish. Heading back up Saturday probably. I think I'm going to pass on Pymy this year, those jumbos are filling the freezer and to be honest taste better than eyes to me. It's hard to pass up a sure thing,1.25-1.5 pound fish and a handful of 2 pounders. Put in at Vista launch the last time,it's deeper than Niagara and about 400-500 yard to perch land. Going to show Marco the pics from the trip today. He got to see the pics to believe. lol Good fishing to you.

Re: PYMATUNING FISHING REPORT 2017/03/22 08:11:29 (permalink)
Thanks for the offer, but I have my own boat if needed. I just prefer working the shores and wading most of spring. I like to move around in search of Walleye and Musky and wading seems to produce very well early in the season. No luck so far but I have a feeling good fishing is not far off.Lake looks real good , about normal depth , nice and clear. Hopefully that construction will be completed real soon , opening up the road at the dam, making travel easier from both west and east sides. Bad point is weed growth seems to be stronger without those good freeze overs this winter. Time will tell.

Big T you nailed it, those Perch are better than Walleye for taste....a little more work cleaning is all !

Nice one BTDT..........

Big Tuna I sure would of liked to anchor over some of the pods of fish I was marking. Don't know if they were Perch or anywhere near the jumbo size yinz was catching but there may have been some big-ens, I would have invited to dinner.

I'll get em next time..... or maybe the time after that.

Your best bet is to Google "Presque Isle Bay" or search, Google Maps. You will get directions straight from your door step.

When you enter the peninsula, there's a series off parking lots on the bay side, there marked with a sign. I believe Vista at the third parking lot. The launch is at the far end off the parking lot.  If you get there late, you'll have to put in at Niagara and you'll have to run a little over a mile..If you put in there( Vista) it very close to the perch spot, there will be boats anchored fishing. Respect other boats and anchor and fish the outside of the pack. Fishermen are usually great guys and share info, but there's one guy ( local)  that you don't want to crowd. We got about 50 yards from him last time, and he dropped the F bomb about us getting to close.lol  Like I've said before, there's no secrets at Erie,it's a huge bay, with billions of fish, and there's plenty for everyone.
