Cap. Hook,   Folk lore has it Peepers have to look through "glass"   (ice) three times before spring is here.  I think last night 3/1 would have been the first time this year.

should be prime time to pick up some legal males, slightly deeper females waiting for eggs to fully develop.  Will be up sunday, the only "other" day i'm off.  Fishing maybe alittle tough, "going lite" .  Light jig/big minnow and small colorado blades late afternoon.  Fish should be moderate shallow on wind blown points with a rocky bottom.

Good luck to you guys.  Monday and maybe Thursday look to be the best days.  Tuesday's a washout right now and Wednesday is going to be "surf's up".  I think I will take my time getting the boat ready this week and hope to start the season the following week.  If anyone makes it up to Linesville let me know if it's completely done and how much of a difference the newly graded ramp makes.  Couldn't really tell much when I was up there a month ago.  Still wondering about those rails that were in place on the first section of the dock.  Looks like they could be a pain....I might just take a ride up to look around so if you see a black Cherokee, stop and say hi

Yep  Saw that new fish pier.  Nice. I Like that they finally gave the yakkers a place of their own to launch too!  Wish they would have put another ramp in though.  Just gets to stupid on the weekends.  Still think official launch opening is April 1st
Rich, along that train of thought, now I won't have to worry about weekend crowds   I can go up every day in the week if i want    If nothing else this week I can watch a couple of ppl launch on this new ramp.  I think they changed the grade to make it easier to power load a boat.
Also curious to see how the new concession owners run the boat house.  I realize the last group was kind of doing them a favor by running it but really, there were mornings when no one would show before 7am!   Ah, for the old days when Frank ran the old wooden building and they slept in the place in order to be ready for the early crowd!
Has anyone heard what's going to happen to Tuttle now that Linesville is re-opening?  I know they opened it last year to handle some of the over flow caused by the Linesville closing.   Wondered if they were going to close it back down again

Yep.  But when I was up there the docks were in and the gates were gone so there's no reason why you couldn't use the ramp now as far as I can tell.

Hope that dock section with the railing isn't permanent   Going to be a pain if you have someone on the dock with the bow rope when backing in or trailering.  Not everyone powerloads their boat.  I liked it the way it was, never had to get the back tires of the vehicle anywhere near the water and the boat was off because of the incline.  If they really changed the grade that much it could be real interesting come summer and low water.

Purpose of said railing is for liability issues, nothing more nothing less. Having loaded and unloaded on ramps with railings it's not a big deal just need a longer rope

Re: PYMATUNING FISHING REPORT 2017/03/06 11:06:35 (permalink)
Is this railing different than the railings at other launch facilities on the Pymie?

Also, the slope of the ramp, is it not designed the same? That being to accomdate all rigs using the facility?

From the (great) pictures it looks as the dock will be remain in the water year round. Nice when there ain't ice and ya get the urge to float your boat in the winter. Been There Done That and have enjoyed fishing in Feb..... not catching any stupid fish.😏

Well I guess the liability part makes sense in our sue-happy culture, but does that mean they are only liable for the first ten feet of dock?  lol  A longer rope is obvious, it's just a heckuva lot easier to control when you don't have that rail and you're by yourself.  Don't like to power load the boat and turn the end of the ramp into a trench...not to mention sucking that crap up into the motor.
All in all they did a great job with the funds they had.  They were hoping to dredge more of the area out but that's where the funds ran out.  Again, in a perfect world they would have put in another ramp to the right of the existing one.  That is one busy launch in the spring.   Personally I like it better from June on when there are days that only see a handful of boats launch from there.  Either way won't be long til I test it out.  Of course now the extended weather forecast doesn't show a day above forty degrees after this Wednesday, extending all the way thru next weekend!  Have to dig out my thermals

Rich,
You mean there are other colors besides yellow? LOL

Ops,
I think it has something to due with the ramp itself and the transition between solid ground and the floating dock.

The railing is most likely also an ADA requirement. The slope of the ramp changes as the water level rises and falls
