The thing I'm referring to between the current and old regs is that with the restrictions you have to actually be somewhat capable of line control to achieve depth or control of your drift. Previously it was , chuck it , bounce it , form a belly and set it when it stopped .. It's very effective , trust me ;)
The guys getting hung or hooked up frequently in many cases are to heavy, even if they are in a shallower run within the regs.
That's just been my observations.
No worries, I've had plenty of bitters in both zones to feed my head :)

Tuna, I do agree that the slinky a long leader trend did get used and abused to the point of new regs... But I can't tell you how many excellent steelhead days I've had with that method using flies and/or sacs on a fly rod... And I'm talking just in the fly zone... Lower river, dsr, staircase... Pineville...etc...and I'm not talking foul hooked or lined fish

Dime I don't think anyone is disputing the effectiveness of bottom bouncing done right.
Trouble comes from those bastirds that bastirdize it.

No I am seeing people using too much weight and dragging it into fish and the occasional fish being lined.
I am seeing people hunting fish and whebn they see them lifting them
Then I am seeing people following the regs that know how to fish getting good solid hook ups.

In the old days I saw people outright ripping fish since if you released them you couldn't get a ticket as long as you had a running line on you reel.
Now you see idiots with no clue and people stealth snagging.
Same results but with more people but the new "pro lifters" try to hide what they are doing.
They should have plain clothes people there 3 days a week popping people and sending a message.

On top of that what the zones need is more real fisherman so the bandits don't have room to ply there tactics

2B my cousin and I fished out two of those clarist hooks with no hint of thread/feather/or yarn on them, one in the LFZ and the other on the UFZ.That is really blatant snagging on those Aholes part.

I use those hooks all the time but for small mouth. I have known of guys trespassing the lfz at night for small mouth ... Hopefully thats what they're from.

Took a look today. Had most folks right above bridge not using too much weight but not casting well. Short drifts and excessive back hand whipping as if they were drying a #6 green drake dry fly :)
