I don't believe you can buy a quality hook to tie on for a nickel anymore.  Hook and rest of materials, you've likely got a quarter in anything more complicated than a glo bug.

Yer back.
So did the specks cooperate?
Do tell!

Roller coaster weather, driven off the pond by 9 AM by the heat and sun on Friday, heat stroke trying to bushwack to some stream fishing midday, could not get back on the water for evening until the sun dropped below the trees around 6 PM.  I got a couple,  friend from ENY did very well for the short time we could be out with 6 in the AM and a few more in the evening. Saturday was perfect until noon, both got many fish, mainly on a caddis pupa, went back to camp for lunch and stood under tarp watching 2 hour monsoon, returned to pond and it cleared, ENY friend and friend from Pulaski who came in on daytrip both got fish, I got best of trip for me, 13" on Royal Coachman wet fly, and a couple of others, lots of missed bites even using a yak paddle instead of oars.  Sunday AM, a few bites, but by then I think every fish in the pond had seen the flies a few times and many had felt the sting.  Almost no hoppers around, and only a few rises to imitations, muddlers and micky finns did not excite fish, the two we kept had a mass of small clear midge larvae in them, but small patterns did not get action.  Mainly caddis pupa, did see some of the big orange brown fall caddis around the lantern at camp.  While not the onslaught of hits of last year, still much better fishing than I have had many times in there.   And a very relaxing mini vacation, would really like to spend a couple of weeks back in one of these years.

DSR reports "a little better" , hopefully Sat.'s suicide run will get us to see a few and maybe even hook one. My Comet and Intruder box has more colors than a clown car, it's time to fish and make the tying try to pay off!

Good luck to you fichy.
Didn't take the trip this morning.
3a m and I'm pulling stuff apart looking for my reel with the 8# on it.
Put it somewhere for vaca thinking I might throw streamers at pike and have no clue where it is.

Sounds like a nice trip Chuck.
Sounds like the brookies played nice enough.

It could have snowed for three days and it would have been a good trip, there is really no bad time in the Daks, although I've been through some pretty scary microbursts.  Definitely fish memories to get by on in the winter.

Time to get ready for fall, car died for any trips, shopping now, need to line up ducks for weekdays.

Absolutely !!! I have a burial ( ash ) spot in the ADKs , just hope the wife can find it ..
Sounds like a great time indeed, thanks for sharing the memory and maybe a pic too .
I'm heading up myself in a few weeks hoping for some moving water action ..
Sucks about the car. It's been battery crazy here. Friday morning truck was dead, transferred everything to car and it was dead. I put a new battery in boat 3 weeks ago and atv 2 weeks ago.
Fall is coming then ICE :)

Sounds like a great time, Lucky. I caught a damsel hatch on a  mountain  pond above Lake George about a month ago, it was a blast, but nothing bigger than 12". I had Nancy drop off some float tube  fins for a friend heading into a Vt. pond for 3 days. I hope I get to put on the backpack and head in   before the season ends.  I caught a few good steelies last fall on Pumpkin Caddis pupae. Hey, they were in the air, I figured they were still some down low. I'll be looking for them again.

Thanks for the comments, I will try to post pix when I dig the camera out of the pile of gear I had to move quickly Sunday night so my wife could get to work Monday AM.

Charlie,  around the same time, I was on a pond during a blue damsel hatch and mating swarm and the trout were jumping 2 feet into the air to take the little flies,  I had no fluorescent blue dry flies with super long tails!  But that orange caddis has been working every time I've used it for the last 2 years.  Brought bait rods and worms this trip and never even set the bait rods up.

Clint, I'll try to get a PM down to you, I can use nay help I can get.

That almost  sounds like a Haiku, one of those short Japanese poems that tells a story with few words.   I like it.

Anyway , wish you fishers all the best and thanks to those who have shared their outdoor adventure so far. Can't wait to hear more because I'm stuck in the mud here.
Things sure do look promising.
Good luck and thanks Charlie , some day I hope To be netting Robs fish , the thrill for me is seeing it in the smiles of others :)

Just throwing this out there, still working at Selkirk and nice guy from Canada staying in the cabin next to the one we are working on fished the dsr from first light till 1 and saw one fish. That wind was blowing so hard today I believe there will be movement next day or two for sure. I will be headed up in the morning to walk upper mid river and recharge, pics of something to come tomorrow. Later..

Well we went up with the wife and dog for some walking.  Not one fish or swirl seen. Walked Haldane pretty much up through town and the tall bridge.

I've caught a rumor that there was some movement today.
Big wind, waning moon, and a cool down on the way  means there should be a decent amount in the river over the next few days.
LURKER ALERT-- it will not be THE run just enough to mean if you want to work a little you should find a fish or two to show your bait .

Drove through town again and seemed like more of same. Stopped by the estuary and it is definitely heating up. Folks fishing from the bridge ad 4 or 5 boats out there. Only stopped a few minutes , but did see a few fish swirl around. It's ready to bust I tell you.

Was up at Whitakers getting something AS did not have and he took a call and I liked his response. He told the caller that there would be more fisherman than fish in the river.  He said it was like Christmas eve around here with the anticipation.........

I went 2 for 3 yesterday on an hour and a half's effort. My father hooked 3 on an hours effort two weeks ago... But yes, it is starting.. Key word...starting... Really do like the way internet hype is getting curbed a little... Fishing should not be a video game

The report is a little better today than last Friday, at least I saw a few more fish. Started in ellis worked down to below the bovines and only saw one blasting up shallow water.
Pic of the tree about to drop in the muskrat

Headed down to my favorite section and there was a guy standing at the top of the run and he said he had saw 30 go by and hooked 3 to that I replied really. He was right in the middle of the river fly rod two huge hunks of metal 18 inch leader and egg thingie, I worked down slowly letting my buddy work the water ahead of me.

I saw about 10 fish from 7 to 10 and got to cast to about 5 of them 10 or more times, some bouncing my fly practically off their heads. If it was a younger me 5 of the 10 would easily have been flossed and landed but I kept changing flys and colors and came away with a big -0- nada, zip! Jumped in the truck to head down a little further and saw no movement at all and did a lot of  walking and glassing.

Saw three different eagles and enjoyed the time out, next time for sure maybe sunday.
