Slammin stingrays on the Eastern Shore

Anyone ever bowfish for stingrays in the salt? I spent the last weekend with Dusk To Dawn Bowfishing in Maryland chasing stingrays in the backwaters. It was an exceptional hunt for sure. Lots of action, a few different ray species to shoot at, many misses and some in the boat when it was all said and done. 
 
We shot cow nosed and southern stingrays using crossbows and AMS bowfishing accessories. Here are a few pictures. A great and interesting hunt relatively close.

That first one (cow nose) is bull shark "crack" in the texas surf.  Almost a guaranteed hook-up if any bull sharks are in the area.

I did hear that sharks are ther biggest predator. The cow nosed are quite graceful to watch in the water. Pretty cool to look at up close out of the water as well.

Our guide showed us how to quickly filet off the top of the wings and one fellow with us took all of it for his fourth of July cookout. I did not eat it but he said the stingray was better than the cow nosed. He deep fried some and grilled some. He said the grilled was pretty good. The fried was tough.

  First time Ive heard of shooting fish with crossbows as opposed to bows.   Didn't realize bowfishermen were utilizing that too? lol   J/K.. Sounds like a good time.    Don't blame you for not eatin' the ray.   Doesn't really sound overly appetizing to me either.

Getting more popular as crossbow use grows. AMS makes a full product line for crossbows. We were using Parker Stingray crossbows that are sold as a complete package set up and ready to go for bow fishing.

It was a blast and I would do it again in a heartbeat. The hunt is very weather dependent, but if you hit it right and go with someone that knows what they are doing, it is a fantastic time.

I've had skate wings before..thought they were good..wouldnt know where to begin cleaning them myself
