pymy guide

I heard that there is a guide with a pontoon boat that offers fishing for Crappie out of Pymy. I think that he goes by Mr. Crappie, as I do. Has anyone here gone out with him? If so, any thoughts, as I am interested in going?    thanks    sam

Sam, i'm not sure if this is the guy you're thinking about but give him a call and see if he can help you in some way. Met him at the Crappie camp a couple weeks ago. His name is Norm. He goes by Yankee Hooker. 419 989 2121. Tell him Chaunc said that Hooker could help you.

You can reply through craigslist.com. His early booking discount is over for the season but still very reasonable rates. Type in guide on pittsburgh craigslist.

I seen that guy on craigslist, scrolling through the boat section. 5 hours for 75 is a little pricey considering you can drive 30 more miles and slam perch for $33 on the EJ. I also wondered how legal it was for him to be calling himself Mr. Crappie as a business name lol.
Either way I hope he is legit and gets you into some nice slabs Sam.

    Here you go:  http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/boa/4501410425.html

That's tempting for me.  I can generally catch crappie anywhere but I don't know anything about pymie other than it is way too far to drive.  I don't think $40 a guy for 2 guys is that bad for 5 hours of fishing.

What is the "EJ" for perch?  Assuming some erie headboat deal?

Oh I thought it was 75 a person, you're right 40 a person is a good deal, especially considering you're not towing a boat or using your own equipment.

The crappie in pymie are huge, you can catch 14-15 inchers consistently if you get into them.

The $75 is per. person, 2 man limit. But considering renting a pontoon at Arthur is 'bout $50 a hr. it's not a bad deal if don't have a boat, don't want to haul or don't know the water.

Thanks for the replys. Chauncy I may give that guy that you recommended a call. I was sent that craiglist ad by a bud,the price was $50 for 6hrs. which is cheaper than renting a boat in most places. Since I no longer have a boat I was just thinking of a few options. I have gone on a headboat for perch but it is not a sure thing either & not my idea of fishing.    sam

You guys with boats....whats it cost you run your boats annually divided by the hours on the water- just sayin'.
I might be interested in a guide for Pymie if you try it let us know what you think.

Well cost of the boat...Tires fail every so many years, registration every two years, trailer lights seem to fail every winter, boat motor if older will need looked at every spring, either by yourself or by a professional. Gas and Bait. It's about $75 dollars a trip for me. (lake arthur and pymatuning) The river's a little cheaper $40 (ohio) but you can't eat ohio river fish, at least I don't. The occasional lost lure is another $8-14 charge. I try and find people that are williing to split the expenses, by taking my father will me I foot the bill.

Boats do cost my biggest expense is gas I go 40 or so times a year, boat is paid for now so its the gas that costs me.As for a guide you don't need one at pymatuning. you can rent a boat Linesville livery for 50 bucks all day go out into stumps or where u see all the pther thousand boats and hang an 1/8 once jig with a fathead or crappie nibble and by end of day you will have some slabs or you are doing something wrong.
Im no guide but am always looking for someone to go with me to split expences mainly during the week anyone interested just pm me. Soon I will start going to erie for perch.

As much experience I have on Pyme [which is extensive as I've fished it heavily for 50 years], I wouldn't be objectionable to a guide on Pyme if the cost was right. Hopefully I would learn something new. One never knows. Good luck Mr. Crappie. If you go out with a guide, I hope it's a good experience for you.

Chauncy, I did not call anyone, as my main reason to post was to see if any board members either went with this guy or heard anything about him. I did get a few offers to go with some board members for which I am thankful, but because of my health problems I am afraid that I might ruin the trip for others, Thanks for the replies,  sam
