Hello all, it's that time again.  Any of the lakes looking to shape up in the next 2 weeks?  Thanks!

As of 30 mins ago (3pm or so) yes... Just froze overnight cause it was wide open yesterday when I checked it. Definitely nowhere near ready yet but it's getting close!

I'm going to check a few spots that stayed through the little warmup last week on either Sunday or Monday afternoon. I'm hoping that seeing it was already froze this last week of COLD temps thickened it up. Hopefully I'll have some good news by Monday night.

Now by the looks of things Friday is supposed to be 38 with rain then back down again so hopefully it don't come down to hard and ruin it again.

16 December - Ice ladders are being placed at the Rt. 846 and Hartford Road areas, Golden Run, the PGC Prop Area, and Chestnut Run. Remember that NO ice is completely safe, due to the variables in ice formation. Report missing or vandalized ladders ASAP at 724-646-1116. Also, please keep your pets leashed while walking in recreation areas...unleashed pets can chase wildlife onto thin ice and break through. Ice can be very hazardous - remember, "if in doubt, don't go out!"

Pymy is getting there, bout 2" the places I looked, but not ready yet. With the 6" of snow and slush on top I'm sure it's not helping build, but it should help hold what we have come Friday with the rain they're calling for. I'm going to check a few more places around the lake tomorrow after work and see if some of the protected coves are any better.

I don't know but I'm off Thursday and want/need to get out fishing somewhere. So I'm hoping to find something good tomorrow after work. Anybody have anything with 3" or better? I don't care where, just within 1-1 1/2 hrs from Pymy?

Yeah mid 40's and rain Friday Saturday and Sunday up here. It's looking like last year all over again... Freeze and just be about good then warmup with rain and have to start all over again. If it wasn't for all the wind we would easily have good ice by now, but the whole time it was in the low teens and single digits it was 25+ mph winds.

forecast is calling for a deep freeze after the brief warm-up...If (and that's a big IF) that comes to fruition, the warm-up will help more than hurt by melting/packing the insulating snow on top.

Yeah that's what I'm hoping for. There enough ice/slush on top that it should insulate the ice and only the edges should get cleared out. Everything is frozen. This is the first time I've seen the causeway even under the bridges and the entire channel of the spillway other than right in the bowl frozen. I just can't believe it's not thick enough to get out on yet. The snow is a double edged sword, it both helps keep ice during slight warm ups but also hurts build ice quickly. Living 30 seconds from the lake I'll keep an eye on it and post reports as much as possible.

Looks like we'll be fishing this week yet.
Sugar Lake should have safe ice soon...again.

1* this morning at 5am in Linesville on my way to work. Pymy is 99% froze just some open holes that I could see when I just drove over the causeway just now. North end all froze. Starting Sunday night they're calling lows from 9-18 and highs starting Monday 14-24. It's starting to look good! Now if only it'll stay cold! I'll keep everyone updated as often as I can.

I just checked Pymy this morning. North end and the whole lake for that matter is 2 1/2-3" solid black ice. I check Jamestown around the whole pa side to Red Cross. Best I found was manning at 3 1/2-4" at 100yds out, another 100 and it was 3" next 100yds it was down to 2 1/2". The 3 1/2-4" and 3" was checked with the flasher and sitting between 4-6 fow only. Tuttle was sitting right around 3" but only 200yds out. Next weekend is my guess for the start of it all. I'm sure people will push it this weekend, there were people out on it in dec during the first freeze on the Jamestown end.

Not this guy. I want 5 inches of good, clear ice before I go out there. Winter is just beginning. The fish can wait. Not worth getting wet over. Thanks for the report, Frost. We really appreciate it. I'm anxious to see what it will be like on Wednesday after the super cold temps predicted for Tuesday.

It's anywhere from a dusting to 6+" of snow depending on where you are. The walking isn't that bad even in the deep snow cause go 2' further and there's 1/2" only. The worst is when you find a thin spot of snow and you do a split on the ice...
