11-13' fly rod
Anyone have any recommendations on a 11-13' 9 WT fly rod? I have been searching and seems to be very limited. Not looking to spend more than $250. A buddy and I are planning a trip in search of some coho and other larger fish. Thanks in advance.

Why that length? Spey or switch fishing?

I just want the flexibility to use for jigging/nymphing when desired. Plus, I already have too many 8-10' rods.

I beleive I am leaning more toward a spey rod since the following was found.... "Spey rods are cast with two-hands using the Spey style of casting techniques which allow you to cast good distances without making a back cast.
Spey rods are usually 12' to 15' and even longer.
Spey line sizes are from #4 to 9 and even heavier.
A popular average size Spey rod now is a 13' #7 line.
Most two-handed rods are coming in 4 pieces now."

vs. switch rods... "Switch rods are for switching back and forth from single-hand to two-hand casting making them very popular and versatile.
Switch rods are usually around 10'6" to 11' but now some new ones are 10' and some are even long like 11'9".
The length of the cork grips and reel seat assembly is usually shorter on a Switch rod and longer on a Spey rod.
For single-hand fishing a Switch rod is just a longer single-hand rod that can be used for indicator fishing for trout or Steelhead.
For two-hand casting a Switch rod is merely a shorter, lighter Spey rod.
Switch rods come in #4 to 8 line sizes and bigger.
#4-5 line sizes are for throwing smaller flies for trout mostly.
#6-7 line size is for throwing larger flies for Steelhead and trout."

I had an 11' 7wt switch rod built for me a few years ago by Laurel Ridge Rods and I absolutely love it. I know you seem to be leaning more towards a spey rod, but I would be willing to bet Adam could build you the perfect rod for your needs and keep it within your budget. His handle here on the forums is "Loomis" so you can contact him here or through his website: http://www.laurelridgerods.com/

Redington Dually spey/switch fly rods are in your price range. Take a look. I just purchased a 11'9" 8 weight for $249.95 with lifetime warranty. Nice rod. Another option is one of these rods, www.wildwaterflyfishing.com. Remember, a double hand switch or spey rod is rated differently than a single hand rod, for example an 8 wt DH switch/spey would be equivalent to at least a 10 wt SH rod.

A friend of a friend is selling a Sage 9140-1 Spey Rod. I cannot find much information or reviews on it but here is a picture of it. He is asking $300. Worth it? I am assuming it is an older Sage model. The picture of the rod is attached:

I been fishing Erie steelhead with a 3 pc 11ft. 6wt fly rod for several years, it's actually called a tube rod for fishing from a float tube, it's very light and used with one hand, as most spy rods are two handed, I give fisherie.com. most of my business, however this was bought many years ago from cabela's, and every once in awhile I check and they still have them. ron

If you don't know how to cast two handers, stick with a single hander 9-10 ft. -10wt. a 10wt is not too much rod for kings.
