why is it?

Why is it that:
everyone who doesn't fish like i do
Anyone who would take a stocked, non-native fish to eat
Anyone who is not a local
Anyone who is a local
Anyone who holds up a fish for a picture
Anyone who fishes power bait
Anyone who fishes the lake
Anyone who uses a yellow stinger
Anyone who talks on fishing sites
Anyone who is from eastern europe
Anyone who is from a country other than the US
Anyone who uses a fly rod, spinning gear, float fishing set up
is a ....idiot, snagger, low life, cheat, muper, yokel, fish killing, no account looser!?!?!

just wondering why everyone is so quick to point fingers, call names and degrade everyone who isn't them.....we have a great fishery, some problems and frustrations, but why is it that people turn disagreements into attacks on this board (not the whole site, just this board)

because everyones right on this board, including me.

Don't worry about it, if someone attacks you, don't take it personal, people say stupid things, and try to act tough all the time, when they are safely anonymous behind a computer screen. Chances are you will never meet them in real life, and if you do, they probably won't have the courage, or will feel much too awkward, to act the same way.
 
As with any other group of people, or social setting, the few bad apples will give the rest a bad name, it happens on here, and it happens out on the tribs. Remember, they are just fish, and if someone is truly going to be a jerk about them, whether it be on here, or in real life, you are best off to just ignore them, and move on.

true story ....
I'm an active member of a trade related  discussion board (actually an admin/moderator)
I was at a trade show talking to a guy that only knew me from the boards.
after a few minutes of conversation he says,
 
"wow, you really are a smartazz"
 
guess he was surprised I was the same  guy in real life as I am on TV
 
Moral of the story?
if i type it,  I mean it ..and will  say it in person too.
You can get mad at  me, but don't punch me , cause it'll hurt (me) and I'm too old to win any  fights
(unless you're one of those  people in the Walmart lectrobuggy) ..then I might be able take you

I am OK with your Orvis, I am OK with my Cortland or TFO.
I am OK with your Neoprenes in August, I am OK with my Fly weights in January.
I am OK with your NASCAR hat, I am OK with my Stormie Kromer.
I am OK with whatever it is that you do within the law on the stream. Or however it is that you fish.
I figure that at one time or another you are down there for the same reason as me--decompress and breathe.
And the fish really do not care who or what it is above the water line.
Just like the stars, there's no right or wrong in them.

It was good talking to you at the stream FiveMilePete. We were the guys you talked to at 16. Did you have any luck after that?

  Bigbear 2012, I knew exactly what you were referring to when you posted. I'll get back to that as others have responded to your question. Fishingood's post is great, very logical and good advice. Some may not agree with Genieman77's post, but I like it because with him, you know what you're getting. There's no second guessing about him. He is what he is. I can live with that and respect it. Cbeagler has a good outlook as well as Coldfront. As Workcanwait stated "Some on here are harsh at times, but I think most of us are venting our concerns mixed in with some humor". Sometimes it's difficult to see that.
  I've written more than once that this can be a difficult forum to communicate with others because non - verbal cues; gestures, hand motions, tonal inflection and facial expressions to name a few can't be observed. It does make a world of difference. That's not to say when one knows they are being insulted or degraded, they probably are, but also at times one may think someone is implying something and it might not be the case. When in doubt, ask. "The way I understand what you wrote/said is ... .
  For my response to your question Bigbear2012, and it's certainly not the only explanation because as with many things it's multi-factorial, some are not happy until they are degrading others as it's one of or maybe the only way they can feel good about themselves. Very sad indeed and for those of you with a background in Psych, you can have a field day with that type of person, writing an entire thesis. They're just not happy until they put others down. Some do it for the simple sake of arguing and they'll bait others into an argument. They enjoy being confrontational and that's putting it nicely. When someone follows suit[arguing with them], the other person is getting what they want. You fell into their trap. They won as they now have control over you, causing you to lose control and raise your voice unnecessarily. Ignore them or if you wish, crush them with logic. Some do what they do out of sheer prejudice. Prejudice isn't always racial. It runs a gamut of other things. They will also attempt to get others to argue with them and again, they won once you do. Any disagreement can be presented logically even when the two sides differ greatly in their opinion. Any disagreement can be debated without calling other's derogatory names, etc... . When one resorts to utilizing derogatory names against another, it's generally done to demoralize the other person and create a [false] sense of superiority in the other. There wasn't any intention to leave other's out that posted here as they are other great comments, outlooks and reasoning. Again as others have written, there are many good people on this site, but at times they tend to get overshadowed by a few that are outspoken.
