HOLY SHATSKY

Well today was one of those days.  I fished where a bunch of you all  got into some last year   and all I can say is WOW.   There were fish everywhere and moving all day.  One of the top day's for #'s moving I have seen.
HT  fish are digging everywhere and are close to shore.   There are a few Zombies around, but alot of freshies too.  Males are aggressive as hell  and constantly ramming each other,  I was even butted several times standing ankle deep.   I used some bigger stuff today to try and pizz  them off and it worked.   Twice I   was in serious trouble and 3/4 through my backing.  A pod of Ho's came through at about 430, but no takers
My arm hurts and I think I am done for the weekend.
I kept one hen that was pretty light and she was still skeined up, but not tight.

This one was getting bad, she was spitting eggs.   Looks like 2 wild and one hatchery

Good job clint. Sounds like you had a blast!!! There's many more freshies coming bud. The village smelled like fish slime this evening, not dead ones... as much as I was done with salmon a month ago, I do wish I saw that run the other day when the port got sucked dry... and even before that the upper river was loaded. I'd say it'll be zombie city in about two weeks...

Well the highlight of the trip up was the new waders and boots, frogtogg waders and the new corker wading boots. After the stop to Pineville it was off to my secret spot, as you can see its not so secret and full of snaggers. The first four guys in the pic all with their flyswatters were snaggers watched no less than 6 fish come in azz first and go on a stringer, they left with nine kings and one steel.

I fished hard for three hours straight tied on many different patterns and not a taker, accidently fouled two fish one popped right free the other I quickly broke off.  The fish would hang right in front of me as I would not fish to them they were old and moldy but twice a dingleberry came from behind me and said there are fish right there and started casting to them over my shoulder and to that I loaded up my rod for another cast a zinged a fly right by their heads... they moved on. Also watched another guy fight and land a foul hooked fish, pop the hook and kick the fish back to the water, fish went to his side and the guy said it will be fine as he walked away. ****ed I walked over righted the fish and held it upright for a minute, let it go and went to fishing watching the fish. Five or so minutes later the fish bolted back out into the main river fine. Last pic is of a zombie just off shore.

John I think the madness has started for the weekend,  another reason I did not go up today.
Early Thurs AM I had a whole stretch to myself for 2 hours mid day was crowded, but not bad  and right before dark it cleared out again.   I will freely admit that some of the fish I got on were lined or fouled  but the sheer # was insane.  If I saw the tail wagging  or coming in sideways I broke off. I would say a few good hits from fishing to aggressive males, but they would just hit the fly not snap it up.  3 fish above were females all on Estaz eggs or variations.

There was one guy sitting in a area off the main river that was  probably a 20x20 hole  between 2 choke points.   There were probably 20 fish in the pool  at any given time and they kept coming in and going out.  He sat there for 2 hours just laying into them, get one on pull it to shore flop it back in and do it again.  I was fishing  in yelling distance and finally  yelled  "how can that still be fun"  He must of pulled 20 fish out of that pool  some of them probably twice.

What kind of waders and boots did you get.   I have the hellbenders and like them pretty well.  I got the metalhead boots.   You did good at Pineville the waders are 15 to 20 cheaper than in town and the boots at least 20 cheaper.  I got my boots there for $20 cheaper than All Seasons with all 3 bottoms (spikes, felt, regular)

Clint the style boot I bought was the korker chrome model also with all three soles, and the waders are the nicer frogtoggs with two waterproof pockets and a hand warmer. I do business with them cause they remember my name and they have great prices and with my guide discount I saved about 40bucks. They however did not have the flys I was after. Normally stay away this time of year but I booked a trip for tomorrow, gonna be crazy!!!

I'm interested to see the longevity of the new  Korker interchangeables. The first go round were killers. I had one flop off way the hell out on a mussel bar on a changing tide. Came very close to swimming or being carried out to sea.  Mine still look new, but can't get 100 yds. before a sole pops off.   I know of at least 2 western  fly fishing gatherings where they burned them in bonfires.
The new ones seem to have cured the problem. Great idea- I hope they last for you guys and you let us know how they hold up.  Now my summer boots are getting sketchy, I'm going to Goop a pair of the felts on mine and add studs.  I'm too poor to burn anything unless its wood.

I have a pair of Simms with the rubber soles that I put the cleats in, very pleased.  Compared to the old Korker sandals its like wearing a pair of sprinters shoes.  I picked them up over ten years ago from Sierra Trading Post and didn't use them until about three years ago, I'm glad I did.

Nice report Clint & John.  Hope you guys kick butt and take names this weekend.

Gerry I am done for the weekend for salmon.   Just not worth fighting the crowds.  I will be going Perch fishing  and sunday and monday.    Maybe will go Tuesday, but that is up in the air right now.
