Tohatsu motors

Well it finally happen my Johnson 9.9 has seen it's better days.  After 24 years and thousands of hours of use it's getting to the point where repairing it is going to cost almost as much as it's worth.  Been looking at the Tohatsu motors which are the same as a Mercury.  Any one have any experience with these motors?   How well do they operate in cold weather?  Been checking the prices and they are comng in around a $1000 less than Mercury, Honda, and Nissan.  The Johnson would get used around 6-700 hours a year if not more depending upon when the ice leaves and comes.  4-500 hours would be trolling only.  Just wondering how well they wouold hold up to these types of hours.

tohatsu and Nissan are the exact same motors, only diffrent covers and colors. Been running mine for 3 seasons now. Other than changing plugs last spring, no problem. I have a 20 Nissan and i've fished it well into Dec last year.

I have a 2010 20hp 4 stroke and never had an issue with it.  Only problem is that sometimes it can take a little longer to start after not running for a little while, but that can be with all motors.

I picked one up this morning from Lake Road Sales just above Hartstown swamp.  Walked in and out in less than 15 minutes.  Just as cheap as the ones advertised on the internet.  Was going to get the 20 hp but I didn't want the extra 40# hanging on the back of the boat.  I did have a 25 Mercury on there at one time and it was way to fast.  Had it pushing 38mph and still didn't have it to full throttle.  I not in that much of a hurry.
