Epic Run

I read a report that quoted a fish biologist as saying that there should be larger than normal numbers of steel in the tribs this year. Basically, what he was trying to say was, "This year, the RUN WILL BE EPIC!"

Are they up to Rt 5 yet?

Would it be worth the gas to make the trip this weekend?

When was the last time Erie had a truly EPIC run?

The run is over and I missed it again. Now I gotta wait for the spring run, I guess. Been trying to time the run for 20 years to finally catch a steelhead. Maybe this spring....WF....I'm an elitest now. I'm going to actually hook one this year. I'll have pictures.

The "fish biologist" story is like the urban legend "my buddy's dad's friend worked on a dam as a diver and found catfish the size of a car and refused to dive back in." You hear both from a lot of fishermen. There's probably the same number of fish biologists as dam divers, which isn't many, but somehow everyone who fishes has talked to one, so **** it their info is solid brah.

Walcat, you mean it stopped at one point? When?

    WF, I don't believe you. You're a known liar...

KJH, 2013 is the new 2015. I heard there was an 8lb gobie caught at Da 'Nut. A biologist told me. His friend saw one even bigger than that when he was diving by the pier. He said he'll never dive there again... lol

The Asian Carp has eliminated "Epic Runs" guys.  No point in even in hitting the creeks anymore.

    mother lode?

I heard the baitshops are already selling out of Orange Power Bait. The local hardware stores just got new shipments of yellow rope. Last year I saw quite a few hunks of clothesline being used, so I'm wondering if Walmart clothesline is the new Yellow Rope...

Cold, I know dude. I've already made reservations at Uncle John's Elk Creek Campground for the last weekend of October, 2017. It's gonna be HUGE!

I've also heard that over half of our steelhead don't return to PA streams. They go to the Canadian side or New York. They have had EPIC runs for the last 4 years.

You would think in our age of high tech the fish commission could implant chips which would make the steelhead or brownies ill if they went east of the NY line, or north of the USA.

I don't know how you guys ever catch a steelhead, when you don't even understand the very basics.  Steelhead don't run.  Heck, they don't even jog.  Or walk for that matter.  They swim. Geesh.

WF, I heard a tandem rig was the best way to catch steelhead. I fished beside a guy who was using a tandem rig and he caught 3x the fish I did. He also did very well on Lil' Cleos. I thought they were  a little big for the stream, but I guess not. Every time I looked upstream, he was yanking a fish in. That guy knew his stuff. Maybe I'll see him up there again this year. If he has the same car, he'll be easy to find. He was driving an SUV looking thing with a big TONKA decal on it.

If you find that guy, lemme know. I still haven't quite figured out the spot-n-stalk method to steelhead fishin.
