Amazing!!

Amazing to me anyway.......today I saw a Bald Eagle just off my property!!
This is really something as I live about 6 miles east of downtown Allentown Pa.They are truly making a great comeback and it is wonderful to see this great bird in my backyard.
Sorry for the off topic post but I want to tell everyone.

Same as for around here it used to be few and far in between sightings now you here about them all the time. Was fishing the hudson river the other night and looked up and sure as heck there was a eagle in the tree. definetly a thing of beauty.

    Small world.
I made a hitchhiking tour in the early 70s to drop some buds outta college.
    Muhlenberg was on my list.
My friend pumpkin balls or something that rhymed with that was never the same.
    Good times.

That's great Jack. The first sightings around here were about 25 or so years ago right in my back yard along the Stockport flats on the Hudson . It was quite a big thing back then as DEC found a pair nesting . Now we watch them fish all the time and they are much better at catching herring then I will ever be.

Correction to my original post,I live west of Atown not east.

There are Eagles on the Big Lehigh and Delaware that are not far from me but in the Pocono region. To see one down here is really something.

They are amazing and strongly spreading. I've seen them in the suburbs of NYC and jersey...to the urban areas near Ridgefield park along the Hackensack river at the gateway to the meadowlands. Back in march or so this past year I saw one come up off of the salmon river basin at the 2a bridge while viewing from the transfer station...they are everywhere..

We had a few nest around here on tops of some of the high voltage towers.  Residents have moved out though.   Up in Quebec where I fish I have seen them take a fish from the water it is amazing .

The only place I used to see them was up in Nova Scotia brookie fishing --now they occasionally circle overhead looking at the lake I live at here in Ct.
    Spreading out big time.

Big beautiful birds, first one I saw up close was on the deleware. Floating with a buddy just went through the junction and there was an eagle perched on a downed tree that overhung the river. Awesome site.  Just about two weeks ago now was on my way to a bod meeting at our church and not even a mile from my house was a juvenile bird on the side of a grassy hill, had something he was finishing off, the white crest around his neck was still brown but there is no mistaking these birds. Glad to see so many of them around again, heck last week we had a black bear within a mile of our house.

Jack, I've seen numerous bears on the trails outside of G'burg. I've fished and backpacked in the Smokies a bunch and they have very dense bear populations. It was a regular occurrence to see them while fishing in the GSMNP. I saw 3 one day fishing the Greenbriar outside G'burg.   Not the least surprise to have one wander into town. Last year I had one run down the sidewalk at me on the main  street of Manchester, Vt. .  The bear in G'burg was probably looking for the Elvis Chapel, some good barbecue,  or the store dedicated to refrigerator magnets.  The one in Manchester was looking for a bargain in the outlets.  Hope you see more of your feathered friends.  Maybe when you get up to your secret spot on the river one will be flying around.  Not that far fetched at all.....

Well I'm down to the dumb phone as the pc is dark..
Original reason being the secret spot is so secret was to protect the nesting American Eagles

I have had bears at my house a couple times over the years. The local game officer tranquilized one while standing on my deck and then we took a picture of the bear,my wife and daughter and myself with the bear before they took it back to the mountain 15-20 miles north of me.That was a lot of fun!
What struck me about that Tenn bear was that it is just stolling through crowds of people, crossing the street on a crosswalk, and no one is paying much attention to it.Charlie, could be he was looking for that barbecue

Dime is spot on, I work scaffolds on high rises and have had both bald eagles and Perrigrines (a more common sight) take a rest on our outrigger beams atop the buildings. Not midtown for the eagles though only along the river. Think the Perrigrines like all the pigeons.

I have one in my neighborhood right outside of Harrisburg on the condoguinet creek.  Last year he/she grabbed a squirrel and was dismantling it in my neighor's back yard perched on one of his oaks.

Saw my first bald eagle in the last week of sept. in 99 , it jumped out of a tree and flew along side of my truck about a 1/4 mile in northern crawford county . I remember this date because when I got home I opened up my daily devotion and the scripture for that day was Isiah 40 - v 31 . I sat back in my chair and said to God .... you've got my attention,"Im listening! The phone rang about 5 min. later and I was hired for a job at a company that I'm still working for . A total blessing all I can say is thank you Lord.
