Heading out / 2nd trip of the year

Leaving Wednesday and coming back Saturday Night.. Got all the trolling gear I need now to try to get into some walleye.. Have heard harnesses have been picking them up..  Probaly head to first trench to start out

Are perch still in the 62fow area? Will be launching out of the Nut this trip rather than in the lagoons and going out the channel too long of a drive for where we want to go..

Picked up 8 eyes and 1 steelhead in the 68-72 FOW range on saturday.  Mostly RR and bagleys.

As for perch, consider me skunked.

What all do I need to launch out of Conneaut? Is there launches in Pa or are they in Ohio? Was thinking of launching there to shorten up the drive..

I got the whole Conneaut thing squared away.. we're launching out of Walnut and heading west towards 65' and going from there..

I have RR, harnesses, spoons, some other stuff.. Planned on running a dipsy with a jet and then the lure..

Eman, listen to everything TD says. Don't make it any more complicated than it has to be. If the dipsey bumps too much, you might be dragging bottom. Bring it up.

TD, set on 3, how deep will that dipsey run at 95?

Depends on speed, line diameter, current, and lure used.

If you're heading west towards Conny, be careful not to cross the PA/OH line, if you dont have an Ohio license. If they catch you, it'll cost you big bucks. You've been informed. Dont be surprized if you get pulled over by ODNR or whoever it is out patroling the line. They watch it very closely. You can get a one day Ohio pass for $11. And just launch out of Conny for $5 more. A lot shorter run to the fish from there.

It's a good thing I have smart friends. I know so little and have so much to learn. This past weekend, Dipsey set on 3 with 20# Fireline, running a worm harness, set at 95 caught quite a few fish. We were going 1.5 - 1.8 mph. We were in 65-70 FOW. Since I don't know all of the formulas, I just put it out there and run it for a while. If it doesn't hit, I let out more line until it does or until I'm satisfied that the bait I'm using isn't working. Takes time that way, but it's all I know. I'm writing down the numbers that TD posted. I'll try them next time.

I've never done it before this is all new to me

Seriously. Take a charter out after you go once or twice. You will learn more in 1 day on a charter than in a few years of fishing occasionally on the lake. Or catch an open seat on someones boat that has experience...
If this is all new, don't make the mistake of taking on too much at once.  Stick to one program and figure it out, then move to something else.  Some guys will be running worms, and spoons and cranks and jets and dipsys and riggers and inline weights all in the same program and they may catch a few fish....but they will never be able to get "dialed in".
You'll catch more with 4 rods dialed in than 16 rods that are all over the place.

If it is your first time I'd recommend starting with learning to fish dipsy's.  Use all big dipsys.  On each side put a dipsy on a 1.5 setting and run that rod straight out the back.  Then run a 3.5 setting on the outside off the side of your boat.  You may need to bring in your 1.5 to reset your 3.5 at first until you get the hang of it. Set your 3.5 20-30 further back than the 1.5.  Play with depths, if you have good marks on your graph let the dipsys back 10' every 5 minutes if they don't get hit until one pulls a fish.

What about these Trip 40's that everyone is talking about on the OGF all the time. Anyone on here use those? Seems like they are the new thing goin'.

Forget the jets. Lead core is what all the big boys are using.
