Think it was Lucky who asked who 'they' are doing the work. Appears to be one guy with his equipment doing these projects. Seems like he bids out the work at a very reasonable rate too. Met him for a bit this week and couldnt believe its one guy doing that. Talent. He was out there with a rake touching up the walkway on the new stuff. Local tells me that Civic groups will be planting shrubs and flowers too.

If I got the story right the funding is from the State down to the Town using funds intended for erosion and outdoor use of some kind. Might be a bit off there on how it works but the guys price was a shocker- I figured bout 7 or 8 times that much. Having some general idea of municipal projects over the past decade in Politics ( got out last week) I kinda figured what he works for would be a cheap blueprint nowadays but no- its his fee, Good deal.

as you all know, any type work along a stream or watershed must be permitted.. You will find such granted permits listed on the DEC web site.. Also in such cases it will list the funding.. It seems this is phase 2 of the pulaski project and is listed here: http://www.dec.ny.gov/permits/47454.html It seems the start was in 2010-2011: with the LFZ I would assume Salmon River Stream Habitat Restoration to Improve Fish Passage $96,685 U.S.. Fish and Wildlife Service Dept. of Interior Severe bank erosion and sediment deposition has created braided stream reaches with numerous side channels. The U.S.. Fish and Wildlife Service will work with partners to use natural channel design habitat restoration approaches to re-establish a stable meander pattern, dimension, and profile. 2010 Seasonal/10-19-2011 http://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/79592.html add the 96,k to the 15 k and thats over 100 k in rocks , equipment and labor.. not bad but remember thats just grant money

Went back to Poolasky last Friday with Wifey, her father and the Lab. Stayed till today (wed) and bugged bout noon. Lots of golf, campfires and burning meat. Weather was great but looked like Tug was gettin pounded on Friday night. Lit up like July 4th up there. Hey- the sign on the old Altmar school says they are gonna be up and running for the Fall of 2013. Lots of parking lot work going on - looks staked out for parking lot work all the way to the back of the grassy field by the river. Water levels kinda nice with Yakers on the weekend and then it dropped a bit but still OK through today. After Fri nite kinda thought it may get real high but- nope. Spent 8 of the last 10 days up there- GREAT.

Thanks RG: well I guess its official.. No more walking into the south shore of the schoolhouse through thigh high snow drifts at O'dark thirty.. Man, it was a great winter lye up to the barrel and I liked the south shore much better then the crowded north.. Oh well there is always the not so popular petting zoo or the lower wires on the north.. Heck I hope John likes running his craft with strangers.. Sounds like good times Trevor

yea , back in 2000 they went hog wild and tried to corner the cement, gypsum and aggregate market.. Well they are going broke and are in serious , I mean SERIOUS debt with the world bank.. The last 2 years they have been selling off a bunch of cement , most of their agg and all of their gypsum plants.. You will no longer see Lafarge sheetrock (well they don’t like that word so they call it wall board) in Lowes stores .. Good thing because their sheetrock sucked anyway.. Along with all the sell offs, they have been doing the layoffs and some risqué things with their assets to raise $$.. while I may get in trouble saying this, unlike the previous UK owners, these French are NOT nice people..

Too much reading for my poor tired ole eyes but I did scim a bit. Is this one of those agreements that allows them to do exactly as they jhave for a couple of years and then when the time comes and they haven't met the requirements they close the doors shut off the lights for the last time and say screw you very much to the employees much like Miller did in Fulton the second they couldn't get all the tax breaks anymore? Yes I am reclaiming my crown as KING OF THE RUN ON SENTENCE!

Exactly, except they were supposed to meet the requirement of a new kiln line by 2014 and in no possible way will that happen so they asked ( and received ) an 18 month extension from The United States of America but it came with a penelty in the form of 1.5 million payable to the state of New York for environmental issues.

OK - on a bright side --I think Read last week where the Sate of NY ( mayhap using some of the aforementioned fine) is about to do a water quality and volume study upstate including Tug. Happening due to increased demands because of population and business increases in the area ( in this economy??) They are concerned with the quality and economic affects of the aforementioned potential increases in water usage and its impacts on environmental and recreational water issues in general as well as on water quality and flows of waterways including the SR. I understood that the main reason was the clear economic impacts of the regions recreational use of said waterways and an early effort to be sure they are managed properly. Seemed like a good thing IMHO. Have participated in NY sports an their outdoors most all my life as in many other states- Always kinda felt the the State of NY was way ahead of most in preserving and protecting its public outdoor resources- Feel this is a good example of that.

Yes I do. However I would assume they most likely will try and secure as much river front as possible. Only saving grace is that you can still fish that little log jam hole by crossing out from the north

Agree - they will likely try and obtain as much as possible. Considering the cost of buying and removing old water front homes up there compared to their rehab and initial investment at the school it isnt that much more to lock down more prime water. Still cant wait for the mid river wading and casting wars this season- will be worth a lawn chair and an afternoon just watching. Wonder how they will interact with the boat captains anchoring up and John Q on the other side ??? Might bring a bell and hammer-just like the 'real' fights. Gotta wonder how the 'split decisions' will come out-specially if one side is hiring and paying the 'wardens' like in DSR. They may end up calling it 'Bloody Altmar' from now on lol. Just think bout it a bit- how would DSR be with one side P to P and the other open to the public with everyone wading around and mixing in the middle an boats drifting through at the same time ??? 'Example- will 'their' customers be able to cast all across the river as they too have a license and PFR folks only half way ?? Or is their 'line' of pvt access only to the high water mark ?? do others then have the right to walk in the water on the South side as long as they dont leave the riverbed on that side ??? Realistically I think the first people up there to have the real answers are gonna be the Boat guides- it is after all their way of life and in their best interest to know --RANDY- let us know Please.

I hardly ever fish that area but from what I remember the public access side is the better side to fish from. Bring two lawn chairs Trevor and I'll bring the beer,it should be a blast watching the circus......that is if they find anyone dumb enough to pay to fish the private side.

PA- Your point is well taken. The fact that this new "DSR North" is surrounded by play for free water could serve as a death knell for the new lodge. Pay to stay perhaps, pay to just fish doubtful.

New York state has easements on the north bank of the SR from Altmar down to below the RR below Scholler on 2A (with a small section private about 1 mile US from 2A) Regardless of the land owner or changes in ownership, those easements were acquired in perpetuity. I would be more worried about the South bank from Pineville down to Trout Brook, and the long stretch below Sportsman's, which are each at least 3 times longer reaches than the Altmar piece. Someone needs to examine an accurate local tax map in relation to the river bank. The aerials that were around earlier showed the property line at the river, and they made a case in Orleans County for public ownership of the bed at Oak Orchard Creek. This may be a precedent for this area. Where is LOTSA or Spey Nation, or TU? What does Fran say? L13

Yea IMO the North fishes better. Probably will be buy a room and get to fish, can't see paying to fish when I fish the other side for free. All depends on price too. I know they can probably pack the place in Sept, Oct and Nov but outside of shark season, especially May, June, July and August, I just see no one staying there if the prices are higher than one can get in town. I can't see full occupancy for the winter months either. Same with the food business. Convention center????? HMMMM have you convention in the middle of the boonies or out in Syracuse where everything is at your fingertips. Hope it works out.............

No disagreement that the north fishes better from Altmar to Frazier but I like the south because it gets less fishers. Nothing more frustrating then starting you day and walking from lot to lower wires only to find a fisher in every spot. Hence I get a kick outta the o" dark thirty.. Sometimes you gotta try and beat those key boats parked on the south side but that's about it. It fished good enough for me with less pressure.
Now as 13 pointed , the south would be the jeopardy area from pineville down. Again luckily Stoney's is an easy alternative that is fisher friendly .
I do not see much more development however on the near horizon unless the economy really cranks up. By then I will most likely either dead or fishing many of the other public waters this state has firmly secured. As RG said, sometimes it's not always the fish that draw us horses to water

Was reading putor clips on Tailwater Lodge- one says the 1700 ft. FRONTAGE on the river is for guests and calls it EXCLUSIVELY for guests. Say they are gonna have 42 rooms. Exclusive is gonna be difficult with just frontage in low conditions where one can walk in the water or somebody fishing on an exposed gravel bar off of the frontage--. -- Keep goin back to the comparison of DSR only having the bank on one side. Personally - gonna stay away-butttt- kinda know how some guys are when fishing up there-----PENDING ISSUES--lol.
