A little perspective..........

Had a little talk of the big water event in 84.   Water hit 24k  plus during that.   Take the 2010 flood  at 17k and add this recent one to that at 8k  and it hits that mark.   I talked to my  dad  tonight about it.  Here is what he and I remember.   It was an early winter and there was alot of snow on the ground.   It then rained and rained and rained.   It came hard and fast.   I did not quite get what he was saying but he  said they  they were unable to open all the spill ways due to having to physically walk out and open them,  so they just abandoned  ship and left.   There were quite afraid the dam would let go and A would be lost.  In Altmar  rt 13 was under water, water was covering where Little Lukey's is.   In Pulaski he and I both remember water over the short bridge, water was in the old log cabin.   It made it 1/2 up the hill towards Dunkin.     I remember standing in front of the Movie theater and could feel the ground shaking  there was so much water.

I know TB said he was up for it was anyone else.............

I personally think that this was a different storm than the high water Two Bob and I fished, which I think was in 82, when there were not that many fish coming back yet.  By 84 I was painting houses and could not get away much, and when we saw the storm there were still bright kings in the river, and we were just seeing early steelhead, one of which 2B caught between the town hole and Jefferson Street.  He could have been up for the December in 84, and I remember seeing the effects in 85, when the bus was filled in, and the Clay was changed forever (or until after this one!), but I don't think I was on the river for the 84 storm.

See there was an up side to being a trout bum.
Working on ending a marrage , bartending, working in a tackle shop and guiding rather than all that statistics, bio, chem and stuff that gets you a job with a retirement plan like my old fishing buddy did.

Could be  a different one because there would have been no fishing.   The national guard was called in and there were sand bags everywhere.   State of emergency.   Dad parked his citation on the bridge (I don't know why) and later  we heard some one say on the Nimo band on the scanner "Slick you gotta get your car off the bridge  because water is gonna come over and they think it's gonna go"    Went up to get it with my Uncle mike and mom and I remember he got wet getting it.   It was a sight for sure with the national guard everyewhere.   We went up to the firestation later that day and filled sandbags.   They were green burlap.

Guess I must have bugged out before the crest then.
As I say it was touching the bottom of the bridge with a couple inches of the top rolling back on itself creating a mini tube a tiny surfer could have shot.
