Camp

Am kinda stealing this from the other forum -welll not kinda- am just stealing it.
Not a member over there and couldnt comment but thought some here may like the conversation and observations.
Guess the crust of the matter is this - "is having a camp worth it ??".
My personal observation is YES -with limitations.
I bought an old run down house trailer on 10 acres for a steal. Its 3 miles from the Pineville Bridge in decent Deer and Turkey hunting.
Took about 3 years of frequent visits  and sweat to cleanup and rebuild the place and reconstitute the yard.
Now have a 3 bedroom 2 full bath decent place with a decent size kitchen and living room and a nice room off the side. Total of over 1,200 feet of living space. Got the yard to about a level  acre of grass. Did over the sheds too.
Its a very liveable house now that  a family could easily move into without any new work. Neat -clean and well kept.
Set back off the road and easily year round and I use it year round too.
It takes time, money and effort to maintain that way. Taxes -plowing  and up a lot just to mow and maintain. With a larger commitment one must realize there is more to the area than just fishing and enjoy it that way-lol
There IS an end date when I cant keep it up anymore.
Some like a camper in the woods or a cabin with little or no upkeep or just a spot for a tent during whatever season they enjoy as a 2 or 3 time a year getaway with few upkeep issues and low taxes.
  Different strokes.
 Opinions--
( yes , am -and likely will always be a POS outastater no matte how much I try)

Depends on what you want to get out of it.   Many folks would consider my location a camp.   I am 15- 20 minutes from Salmon river, Oneida lake, Lake Ontario, Oswego river, deer and turkey in the back yard and several streams and creeks in walking distance.   I would never purchase a camp due to living so close to all those things unless of course it was in retirement years and RIGHT on the water somewhere.
After your initial investment (you can't really count that ,especially if you could sell for close to what you paid) do you get out of it in trips up what you put into it yearly.   In hotel and food savings AS WELL AS  enjoyment and  happiness (which is priceless).  If yes then you are doing OK.
