wow!!!

The gauge at pineville is 512 cfs... todays minimum water level record was back in 1995 at a flow of 476 cfs... they really emptied that reservoir the last thaw we got... normally it wouldve just kept filling with the amount of snow up on the tug but its just been such a cold dry early spring so far

do you think it will hit 285-335 before 2,000 ? I'm confused ..  Hear there is tons of snow in the Tug ?  Seems to me they have been doing a fine job on the water mngt..

Now I'll high jack db's thread:
Jack while I thank you for the report, BITE your tongue with all that rain nonsense..lol It will come and we don't need the Hudson to BLOW out right as the Stripers are coming.. The Hudson takes a while to settle down when she gets angry..
If you really want to send a message, tell them yakers to go ride the bubble on the Indian or Upper Hudson rivers.. Leave the water for the Salmon !!  LMAO..
Ah well, at least you got a tug yesterday.. Not even a sniff in the sport or Hudson for me and Yard Work today

Happy Egg hunting tomorrow Everyone :)

Jack im with you...at this point bring on the rain. 1995 just about holds every minimum flow record of most days of the year. Would hate to see a below 100 cfs salmon season as most of 95 was.
Last sunday there was plenty of snow in the tug... snow banks were up and over street signs in many areas. Im sure most of that is still there. Its going to be interesting to see how the cookie finally crumbles. Gonna get another bout of 30's for highs and 20's for lows... but after that we may be in for a change. Change can be good... been hearing about some blatant ripping and snagging going on... higher water would put a damper on that

Too little rain- last year- most never made it up top.
Personally I hope for an AVERAGE season-some good days some bad - overall OK.

Im gonna hijack my own thread back

With a 285 starting at midnight tonight... probably gonna brake the minimum recors tomorrow and for days to come by the looks of the reservoir level... id say poor management on the water managements part... can anyone remember 285 in april ever??? Especially after a such a wet late fall leading in to a wet winter...

    DB,
Those are mean averages and only 20 years back.
I , 2bob and Lucky probably have seen those flows before.. When they used to pump water like crazy then shut the faucets off at the drop of a dime.. Ya know , before the internet ..lol
All that pumping at night then shut it off to a trickle will give you a mean flow ;)

I think things will be A-OK once all that snow melts and fills the tank back up..
Besides, it sucks trying to fish at flood stage, not that 285 and lots of people is any better..

Persanally I love 285 for fishing.
Stand way back and make a long delicate, weightless, cast do some mending and hang on.
What I hate are the idiots, in huge numbers, that take it as an invitation to wader thru the runs looking for the fish that spooked before they ever knew they were there.
Sounds like there is still plenty of snow on the hill.
Alittle rain and a constent 500 rather than 1500 and it will fill.
The trouble in fall starts if after the normal July drought we don't get some decent Aug rain.
Then the lowered res gets dangerously low.
No reason to worry at this point.

Sorry (for me) there is no report DB.
Its my wifes birthday soon so as part of it we parlayed her Easter time off with the weekend and are spending a couple days at the Thousand Islands.
    No rod along.
    Her party not mine.
When we first married she wanted to see what I was tsalking about so I toured her around the river and creeks.
Hoping to stop in Malinda's on the way home for some materials.
    Altmar Hotel not 2 guys.

    PS new owners there?
First change of decor in decades.

If I could I would be rooted where I was during the fall.
I have a feeling in the next day or so there will be some significent numbers of fish moving thru some lower river runs.
Not as many as upriver but straight from the lake.

Nice bob!!! After 24 seasons i just got my mom up for the first time to see whats its all about. Its always nice to show people things that have been a part of you for a long time...

Yup, new owners at the hotel for about a year now... there doing a darn good job too! You guys is closing up shop... crazy numbers up in those parts though these days. Was just talking to my father yesterday about it. He took one look off the bridge a few weeks ago and just left the rod in the truck at the sight of the chaos... he witnessed a guy reel in two fish foul hooked and keep one of them...

The res has to fill quite a bit before they raise the water... my concern mostly is the fish getting slaughtered... its probably gonna end up being a high flow may at this point

Tomorrow they get hammered in the UFZ! This low flow could n't have come at a worst time,at least up there they have to be released, fair or foul.

Yea I hear all of what everyone is saying about the flows..
It will probably be a pretty unsightly scene in the UFZ. While I have some really good secret (lol) spots in the UFZ that folks usually never fish, they can only be fished in higher water.. I'll do a drive by just to look at how funny the parking situation will be now..
As you can see , low water or not, I still fully intend to throw the big stuff at them, ya know so they SEE it coming..
Those pretty sparkle ones (size #4)  in the middle are usually money this time of year.. Lets hope they still work..lol

Hope to see some folks in my venture and and able to keep sanity..
Length of stay will all depend on the latter..
    Peace & HighJack

Rich, now that the only parking up there is the upper lot one will have to arrive at 4 AM just to park, much less fish the "honey" holes.I wonder if Charlie is going to be part of the mob?
Hey,looking at those flies it looks more like a Salmon selection than Steel, guess you're theory is those drop backs are looking for a "BIG" meal Good luck on your trip,I'm hoping for some action out here this coming week!

I'll bet a dollar folks ignore the NP signs and will get a nice note left on the windsheild..
Charlie said he was going in from the long way but at such low flow that won't make any difference at all.
I'll be hitting Altmar around 6pm tomorrow for a little evening hatch.. If folks cleard out (doubt it) I'd give the UFZ a shot but most likely I'll be mid-river..
Those flies work well for spawnerd & droppies ;)

Half the people on the river at 10ish when we rolled thru on the way home.
Didn't pass the ufz but the lfz was still the most crowded with nthe stretch in sight below the bridge pretty much = with it.
Other than down into Ellis spawning braids, still lots parked there there appeared to be lots of room.
4 cars at Sportsmans, none at the musium, noboby in sight on the gravel above Clarks that you can see from the road.
VT plates pulling out of the old redwood, don't know it new name.
5-6 guys in Malindas getting ready to head back to Maine.
You should be able to find at least space if not privacy tomorrow.
Doc appoint at 3 Tues but I'm tempted to make a run and looking low for a couple hours.
See how the inland opener goes Mon to decide.

It will be mobbed tomorrow with guides and folks from everyewhere, but it will take pressure off other spots.   Charlie said we was going to do a drive by and see.   I need to rest up tomorrow I cannot take another day  up at 400, especially with the concert tomorrow.  Maybe I can do a Tuesday  am trip on a few hours sleep,  we will see.   It is going to happen soon.  HT I tried the SRS  and even some alvein flies again today with no results.     Next weekend ............

Talk about WOW..  Water Management : We are free flowing.. You guys in Pulaska got it made..lol

In a short time 40+ # fish will swim these waters... 4-3-12 :

How will ever they survive the slaughter..lol

Too bad these, today were not salt flats.. umm Prof.. Randy ..

Because my back yard paradise would be a gold mine.. Well I do kinda like it this way ;)
Now in the 70's we would catch, and yes foul hook 30 # stripers here..  Today not a single Herring:

Nor have I caught a Striper near here in 10 years..
But today was a scouting day..
As Always once the smallies warm up , the Marine species will be soon to follow..
    Today they perked and got a little color;

    2 landed, 2 lost..
Soon, very soon we will be into these again on the Mighty Hudson:

Randy, if you read this , I'm  sorry I called you Professor. I didn't mean it in a disrespectful way, I used it as a complement with  absolutely no  sarcasm attached.  Ht, you may not have meant it that way either, I just want to make sure Randy understood my respect for his knowledge.

Humm. Being I have no attachment or personal gain to be had from the salmon river forum it seems I have no business being here. Most of my crap is from other waters anyway.
It's been a hell of a ride and long strange trip in my 10 or so year stint on this forum.
Over that time there have been some ups and downs but for the most part my pleasure has been meeting good folk. Griz, Chrome, and of course the regulars now.
It's been fun but now time for and exit.. Moving on to other waters and the adventures that lie ahead.
I'll look forward to reading the reports and discussions but only as a lurker.
Those who know me know how to contact me.
Thanks for the fun and good times we shared and may your hands always be covered in fish slime and Be Well ..

    Peace Out:

Pretty much everyone does at this time of year.
Few people gonna waste the gas looking for unicorns and finding blackflies instead.
Or driving for smallies they have in their backyards.

Just saying a fishusa salmon river board tends to hibernate during the summer rather than the river.
That is unless some sort of dustup is in progress.
Then its pretty much fun till the chaperones are called in.
