Favorite Trout Bait

What's your favorite trout bait?  I personaly prefer wax worms or
red worms.  I have also had success with corn.  I never did much
with salmon eggs or power bait.  Redfins work well, but you can
spend more time threading minnows than you do fishing.

Loon .. I have not fished for trout with bait in some time nor do I go the first day anymore.  However, if I did, it would be wax worms.  Every now and then, I'll tip a minifoo with a wax for early season low water steel.

What is a minifoo?  I've seen them mentioned on the Erie forum.

Generally I'll use a Panther Martin or a Yozuri Pin Minnow if I'm using spinning tackle or a small clouser or bugger if I'm using the fly rod.

I picked up a jar of the Berkley Power Maggots.  How do you recommned
to fish them for trout or steelhead?

I usually just use a size 16 or 18 hook and free float them like one would do with a nightcrawler. good for steelhead in clear water with some shot depending on the current.

Nightcrawlers are the best - cannot be beat for trout fishing.
