Dry Flies

I have a box full of clousers, wooley buggers, sucker spawn and globugs.  I'm now getting ready for spring and I'm wondering what dry flies I should be tying.  Is there one or two good general purpose dry flies I should learnt tie?

What type of stream do you most often fish. If you fish a stream that has all the big hatches then tie accordingly. Only tie what you will use on the creek. A good rule of thumb is caddis and midges since they are the most common then a few general mayflies and thats fine.

also blue quills. i found when trout start getting spookier i can fool them with quill bodies instead of dubbed bodies! also *14-#18 quill gordens. there's a rule of thumb. darker color flies for spring and lighter colors as the weather warms up. for dries, if you tie your own the fine poly dubbing is easier for smaller flies, #16-#20. if you use animal dubbing be sure to use muskrat or beaver and not rabbit. ~dt

I would suggest that you go to the streams you most often fish and flip some rocks and look at sizes and colors. I fish three or four different streams hard that are all within twenty minutes of my house. Some have size eighteen olive caddis and then the other might be size twenty tan caddis. Do some footwork and talk to the guys at the local flyshop at get their insight. Also, if you are fishing for stockies they usually aren't that picky. For wilds a lot of times if you are not exact they're not taking it.
