STEELHEAD STOCKING QUESTIONS?????

Can anyone tell me how many steelhead were stocked in 2011? I have read three reports that I got from the PFBC website the numbers don't seem to match up.  I must be missing something here somewhere.

needs reduced by half..  or stopped all together and let mother nature do its thing... Go fish Michigan and Wisconsin for steelhead where it takes 2 days to catch the #'s that can be caught in Elk in 4 hours... The Lake cant sustain what you WANT... Especially the 7lb 18 inch browns..

If mother nature did her thing we would still have mooneyes washing up on the beach and the tribs would be nothing more than drainage ditches.
I prefer it how it is right now.
Do you fish the Erie tribs for steelhead?

they need to stalk double what they do now
its would really make a great fishery

It sure would help fatten-up the walleye!

Not a fan of the slimers.  If mother nature wanted them to be there......we wouldn't have needed to stock them in the first place.

To be fair, the same could be said about the oodles of walleye elsewhere in the state.

Don't need more fish stocked at all, need less guys filling there freezers thinking there cool walking around the streams because they caught 3 fish when there just going to put them in the freezer and watch them get freezer burned. Sry duuds, thats how it is. I understand some keep and eat them occasionally, so be it and enjoy.

Yeah steelhead are the best fish in Erie hands down.
Keep stocking more, less, or none, there will still be some, and ill still go look for them.

I still believe it is the mortality on the smolts as to the return numbers. With 3 or 4 times the spring fishermen as there used to be, on the tribs, this has to be taken into account. The smolts are actually fragile and , although they swim away when released, many die later. In studies done on released trout mortality, even with careful handleing and barbless hooks[ which actually do no good at all] the mortality rate is over 15%...WF

So... The steelhead dreamer posted the question, and has not logged in since a half hour before the first answer was posted.   Hmmmmmm.  I guess you can read the posts without logging in.

Yes they do. I suggest that you personally never again exit I-90 within the state of Pennsylvania.

Thanks for all the input.....still confused, and yes you can read the post without logging in. I was just hoping for some clarification and some responses were quite helpful. I should have responded sooner, however I felt that I didn't have anything viable to contribute to the conversation. There seems to be some serious feelings as far as species preference, turned into a bit of a blowing smoke contest. Thanks to those of you who addressed my question directly.
