ice fish perch

I watched a neat t.v. show on ice fishing that showed perch eating bloodworms on the bottom. These worms are pretty neat creatures that are bi-colored & they burrow into the mud with the lighter colored part of them sticking up from the mud. They resemble manure worms in size & color. The host was showing some of the perch that had thier mouths stuffed with these worms. That is why the tecnique of pounding or puffing the bottom must work since the perch at times work the bottom looking for these worms. Earlier this year I posted about catching fish on "Bro's Blood Worms" I just got some this week, could not find them during the spring.  sam

On Chautauqua they're literally stuffed with the things...when pulling them up from deep water, the water column is filled with regurgitated bloodworms creating a feeding frenzy.  It would be great if there were many jumbos mixed in, but almost all are cookie cutter 8-9" fish.

The Bro worms are definitly fish catchers.  Only thing I don't like is how fast the tails get beat up.  Got a bunch of the jig heads and no bodies, so I grabbed a jar of the gulp alive angleworm bodies the other weekend.  Haven't got to fish them yet, but they look like they'll do the trick.

The tails do get beat up fast, but thier thiness & flexibility is what makes them so good.Just lower one into the water on a jig & try to keep it from moving. Even your pulse will have it squirming.Never tried the angleworms, but it is worth the try.btw I even use the bodies on a small plain hook at times, but they really get beat up if the fish swallow them, with a jig head I usualy hook the fish in the lip.  sam

Mote, those are what i was using before the thaw. Great bait but they dont hold up very well. Went thru half a dozen in one trip. I ordered some more tho. They work so i dont mind paying for them.

You might also want to try Little Atom nuggies or wedgies...same type plastic, but they DO hold up well.  I like two-tone red/glow and pink the best.

The Whip has been my go-to bait this year, on a 4 or 5mm Fiskas tungsten.
