Look at this gem I rescued front the upper zone last year.  the photo does not do it justice.  Articulated 2 hooks, barbell eyes, lead wrapped, rubber legs , green beads on the articulation wire.............

Nah he is a filthy pinner 😎😎
I am going to try an get him out with him at least one.  shark season is out of the question due to the amount of OT he puts in, then hunting season on top of that.  maybe a winter boat trip or ice could be nice too

Man, weather guy called for t-storms and crappy weather all weekend. I blew off schroon lake due to his predictions.
Guess what ? Yesterday and today have been STELLAR but I have been stuck inside putting 1,000 sq ' of flooring .
My knees, legs and back are killing me . Ah well at least it's over now.. The lawn is starting to become hay fields again and the dogs are making trails..
Geesh , think the wife would at least mow the lawn while I build her house ..

Keep dreaming tuna... You mist do everything and its never enough!!! Lol!!!

Geez, didn't mean to start a pow-wow... Let's put it this way, the fish run the river every year... Conditions and numbers vary from year to year without ever being the same any year... And yes, there are some in the river already ;)

Now, to bring this thread back on track... The brush fields are thinning and showing signs of brown... Summer blossoms are no where's near what they usually are or have been... A long time neighbor of mine I saw today mentioned how he went through his reserves this past winter with firewood... Clint, I know you nearly cleared your wood out as well... It really feels like fall is coming fast. Could this winter be as bad as the previous??? I guess time will tell... I do believe that bad winters enable healthy steelhead returns for the following year. We did have 2 weak winters in a row and then last winter was the worst in 40+ years they say... What does the future hold for this coming winter???

Well my saving grace to all the indoor work was cranking Tunes. Endless rotation that drove my wife crazy but kept me moving.
Fall , Humm . The humidity finally quit ( for now ) on Friday . Morning dew is starting , me like this weather for sure.
Greens are still fully green, lawn is growing like gang busters. At least here in the southern upstate its still very much summer. 8pm and plenty light out.
I love fall, I love winter ( but hate snow ) give me another 3 weeks to get things in order then bring it on !!
My son burned more wood this year then years past, luckily we have been 2 &1/2 years ahead of the game and be should be all set this season but I will enjoy the cool crisp air buzzing the chainsaw soon, at least 3 weeks please ...

P.S.
He even said he faint wait for ice , seems he is a lot like me.
I said I want to play in the water some more first .. 3 more Good weeks please .. Lol

It's definitely been wetter than usual and I think cooler too. Lawn is still looking pretty good here for this time of year as it is usually scorched brown by now.  Yea I burned more wood last year than I ever have before and I am behind the 8 ball a little, but everything is cut and 3/4 is already bucked up and about half  is already out of the woods and just needs to be split and brought in.  gonna be some work to be done in October for me for sure, but I offered the nephew $100 to bring in what is already bucked up and he said he could do it, but we will see if he does.

Lawn is beautiful for Sure... I'm more so referring to brush and field growth... Its starting to get thin before any of the typical late summer blossoms even bloomed... Maybe its just after math of this past winter... Dew falls every morning here except in the winter time, but it seems the earth is cooling down. The past few days have felt the most like summer but were no more than a whopping 80 degrees in which not too many days have gone above that mark thus far. Many nights in the low 50's in the past month... I honestly love it though... 80 degrees and humid the past few days has kinda been torture...

Lets hope not I liked two years ago. Steel all December, ice January, February and part of March and then back to the steel.  Ice was late, but stayed when it came, moderate snows and normal temps kept everything solid when it needed to be

If in July the webs appear in the corners of your walls and, the crickets begin chirping before fall. Be ready for lots of snow to fall.

BEAUTIFUL day today. Perfect temp, and sunny. I should get surgery every summer. Love being home with the nieces and nephews. Today I tough Brian how to clean a carb and adjust some cables on an old dune buggy that my sister had given up on.  we got it running and they were tearing around on it. Only problem is no brakes, but that is for another day. Going to teach him how to do brakes on his mothers car next week.

Am scheduled to be up most of this upcoming week with family for a mix of  hang out and golf days ( at least one trip for myself to a favored Summer King hangout or two).
Now personally rain is Ok but the 10 day shows rain most all week which would be a disaster for the family thing.
Any locals seeing local reports of anything better--Tues through Friday.
Would HATE to stay here and go to nearby RI beaches every day.
 Thanks.

Looks like chance of every day, but partly sunny so I don't think it will be a wash out as it is thunder showers. Like our lake effect sunny here and  rainy there.

Trev here is the local station I use. They upped the % a bit Wednesday and Thursday to 60% but there still is a peak of sun both days so not total washouts. Tuesday and Friday look ok.

Re:Weather thread 2014/08/10 14:27:53 (permalink)
Just returned from 2 weeks in the daks, and the rain gear got a full workout.  Only time in my life, on the last day of July at noon, I was wearing a t-shirt, flannel shirt, fleece lined canvas shirt, and a rain coat, and was still a little chilly.  First Monday of the trip, 7/28, it was raining hard when I got up and it never lightened up all day, only got heavier.  We took the Radisons to 8th lake Thursday, and spent the whole time baling and drying out, and each boat was over 100 lbs hauling them back up the hill, from all the rainwater they soaked up in the foam lining.  Fishing was fair, we stayed on 4th in the Fulton Chain, I got 14 Landlocks, but not one was over the 15" legal size.  Got two days back in the woods with the canoe at a favorite brook trout pond, and did reasonably well using orange caddis pupas, it was good to find that my amazing trip last fall was not completely a fluke, I am starting to figure out what the pond brookie wants in the fly department.  Started getting my wet flies for October and November tied up, definitely getting the itch, but I have no desire to go after sharks, too many yahoos.

Planning to repeat for a few days in the back country in September, and debating going up September 13th to Inlet to do the one square mile of hope canoe raft shot at the Guiness record.  I think the raft needs a few bearded, flannel clad, pipe smoking old men in Radisons to contrast the life is good shirts and dayglo kayaks!

Then it will be all GL tribs until the black flies (which were still out and biting last week) make their 2015 appearance.

Soaking rain continues and it has been since I got up at 0645.  wind looks viscous too, I would guess HT is going to be land locked this day.

Great adventure l-13 and thanks for sharing. The weather only adds to the adventures. We are land bound today but staring at the lake as I type, eat , drink and eventually sleep.
Wind and waves look wretched . Haven't seen nor heard of a boat out there today.
Luckily the rain has been east or west of us. Sitting by the fire in shirts and tee shirt rocks .

Tomorrow does not look to be a total wash out.  30% chance of an isolated rain shower and sun mixed in.  Possible boomers around dinner. Lake effect rain (30%) Thursday with sun and clouds and the same on Friday. Watch out , the radar shows some nastiness to our west and there are lots of orange , yellows and even a little red mixed in.  Would not be surprised to see a small bump in the river...................

Consider a ride up to the Redfield area above the reservoir, lots of State land and brook trout,  But I can relate, sitting and staring at woods is getting to be almost as enjoyable as hiking through them as the years advance.
