Been raining  steady for about 2 hours.   What is it with the wind this year any way, gusts that make  the house creak.   This stuff cancelled my trip on Oneida today.  Too cold , too windy, too rainy.   Take away one and we would of thought about it.   River went down yesterday so if there is a break in the rain I am going up.  Egg sacs to be tied shortly.

Black flies have calmed  and was a nice two days with temps just the way I like them  in the low to mid 60's.  A bit of rain each night was nice.   Got the gardens ready to plant, worked on the Farmall tractor  a bit as she still is not running right.   Maybe I got it this time.

well things turned to chocolate milk around 9 am yesterday on the mighty hudson and today was a big waste of time out there..
Yesterday morning the bait were active and a striper came on board not less then 5 mins after dropping that herring down..
THEN, we watched the chocolate water (yes watched) start flowing down from the north.. It was a weird thing indeed..
At that point, everything shut completely off and still is..
Ah well, Next year..

Speaking of weather:
The Pay to Play area has increased it's season pass holder list by 100 and decreased the daily pass by 50.. Seems they think it will put less people on the water at one time .. Seems to me it's just guaranteed $$$ and will be very busy..
They also raised their steelhead season pass holder fee.. To what ?
Maybe some day I will get to take Rob.S down there but it seems like those days are turning into years too quickly..
Looking for good times on the Lake and free water..

I wrote a long post about that last week  that I managed to erase somehow.
Seems it will take away even the number of chances a less than weoll off tourist fisher will have to see my favorite water while giving those that have the means and the time to make paying that kind of money worthwhile more.

It will only change the numbers fishing on the days they would have sell out crowds.
And then not that much.

I have always believed that DSR's goal was to eventually become a club for the upper crust.  With all the property they now own and control I'm surprised they haven't built a golf course, lodging and conference center to pander to the chic-chic crowd.  It will be as exclusive as the finest country clubs charging hundreds of thousand for membership.  Its always about the Benjamin's.

What is the real kicker is that the DSR is profiting by what the state did to turn the SR into a great fishery. They, the DSR,should be required to pay some of the expense of the stocking program.

Not really into a bash the dsr thread but it is becoming a trib fishery that is starting to exclude access to the state license paying sportsmen . If it were reasonable ( as I would call under $20.00 ) then I could understand but everyone is just looking towards how much they can screw folks before they refuse. Seems like Ohio boy is still happy with the dry rub

Was on the local golf Commission while in Politics not so long ago- glad that's over.
We had one of the top 10 public courses in Ct and its still great.
MANY folks showing up the past year or two who have given up their pricey memberships in private clubs. They now join the various clubs and organizations surrounding Golf within the scope our much less costly public offerings.
Considering this is a VERY populated area with a huge number of businesses far from going under this is a huge statement about the present day fiscal condition IMHO.
Taking that into consideration one may well question the timing of the Altmar Jailhouse, not to mention causing pause for any thoughts of DSR going completely private in the near  future.
If things  really do turn around- not just DC blabber  bout the great economy- perhaps.
Season passes are popular and they have limited them in the past- that part could change- but one could easily question how it may be for them  without day paying customers in the course of the whole season.
Could they tweak the system a bit for a tryout - sure.
Do I think a completely private fishery is OK on a public financed fishery-- NO.

Well the Jailhouse lodge is already pining for patrons,  here is from YESTERDAY.

Hello Anglers.. now is your time to see the Salmon River in Altmar and have it all to yourself. Its Smallmouth bass season and we have the schoolhouse pool right at your doorstep. Come to Tailwater Lodge and enjoy legendary smallmouth bass fishing on the fly.

This is the time to explore the region without the hustle and bustle of the Salmon Run.

Call us today or message us on here for questions.

Last I know SM season started 3rd Sat in June (Although I think C and R is stated in the regs on off season)

Enjoy Summer  Smallmouth a bit more than  let on in the past on the forum. That said SR Smallies are  far from Legendary . Nice -yes// Legendary- no.
Your right Clint the pining begins- betcha  they never even considered this kinda ad when envisioning their jail.
Cant wait for 'on fire' reports.

Took advantage of the nice weather today and put about 1/2 my garden in. The lawn is becoming a hay field though and we are expecting rain the rest of the week.
Still way to much to do on the house and looks like some more late nights (12am-3am) sucking up chalk dust.
I think the boat will be sitting idle for a little while unless the family want do do a Memorial Day boat ride on the Mighty Muddy Hudson.

So much to do - so little time .
Ice will be here before I know it again ..

A friend from Ca. is taking an emergency flight to Michigan this weekend as  his best buddy that has a place on the Muskegon told him its on fire there and other rivers in Mich. . Not surprising. Hope you find them Trev.  I  had 2 customers who've lived in their houses for 30-40 years call me  in early March to  temporarily rehang their entrance doors, as they were jammed shut for the first time in their occupancy. I've also been doing lots of  slate roof repair from ice dams and some structural shifting caused by the deep frost. It was a nasty, nasty winter. It's been a great spring for me fish wise, hope everyone gets out this weekend and finds some fun with fins.

Hey Charlie-didn't know you were a Slate guy-before being a cop I was a Sheet metal worker in a copper shop- worked with slaters regularly on Churches and older buildings.
Slate guys are getting few and far between- almost a lost art.

Nice , but windy today.  Spent today getting the garden in.  Have not picked up a pole since my last trip to the river on 5/5.   Just too much crap to do.   I could work for 3 days straight  and still not catch up as there are always new chores to do and more things to break and fix.

Will it ever rain?   Just a little.   It is quite dry and the garden is parched.  Getting sick of watering it

Been raining a LOT here in CT-yard and things growing are doing great. 86 and hot the past coupla days and high 50s with  rain last night and today-crazy.
Gotta get up to Pulaski very soon- Been about a month and the grass gotta be high as heck- MOW ME it screams- lol.
Maybe even a late steel hunt-don't care if it in vain-its the hunt that counts.

Wellll the 185 was lousy and now its 650 so they can put in Lamprey poison -OK- but I wont likely be fishing the SR this weekend even though it may be down again by then.
Up in the woods for some stocked trout may be the thing- even a native-- maybe----

The weather has been almost perfect here the last week or so.. Some rain showers every now and then, cool nights and PLENTY of bright sunshine..
Been burning the candle at both ends and working like heck on projects.. My bones hurt..lol
Got the pool open last week, which is almost un heard of for me..lol, tons of yard work - had plenty of giant fires burning all the scrap wood that collects around the house and FINALLY got to slap some paint on that house I have been building for the last ummm 2-years..
Not much fishing time and my boat has become a big lawn ornament but I did get out a few hours on Saratoga lake with my buddy last Monday.. We filled ( pic was taken early) a 5 gallon bucket to the top with some giant bluegills using a noodle rod and gulp maggots..
Got a busy schedule the next 2 weeks with Union negotiations then I'm ready for a VACATION to do some fishing/clamming :) Will be spending some father / son time on the Ausable fathers day weekend for my first trout fishing of the year, man I'm slacking..
Hope you all are enjoying the weather, time goes by so quickly these days and the Salmon/fall will be here before we know it..

P.S.
Thanks for the Info 3fan... Clint , Heal up well ...
