Hear you Tuna!   Even in East Hanover, NJ we are doing our best impersonation of Almar NY!     Think I am the only house on my street with a roof rake.    Gonna be a few Ice dams on my street.

Rich,I am really trying to understand how fighting this weather and heavy snow to fish is enjoyable,I really can't understand it!
By the way there is another system on the way that could wrap around the NE area and dump major snow.I hope your aware of that one as it may hit your fishing grounds.
By the way....I'm starting the "bring on the thaw" dance on Sunday,it'll take a day or two but it'll come.

jack, your right. in these conditions you exert a lot of energy and frustration.. I will be going light as possible..if the trip wasn't already planned I would be staying here clearing snow and roofs off so either way it's going to be work..
My mom said something about another possible storm.. If we get more snow then I'm ready to take a break.. Bad news now is it looks the Hudson will not see another early striper run..

I must admit after two days of dealing with the snow I'm spent.  Like Tuna said the over night accumulations were just as much as what fell during the day.  The thunder, lightening and frozen precipitation was an added attraction before changing back to snow last night.  The strong mid-day sun started to melt off some of the ice but still a lot of snow on the eaves.  Roof raked some off the front of the house but there is no way I can reach the backside.  Mid week is predicting some moderate temps so I hope to be able to get up on the roof to shovel then.  Hoping Mother Nature spares us with only a couple of inches tomorrow.  Oh well, this too shall pass.

Only about an inch fell during he day.  Got home with enough light to shovel off the back roof so I am GOOD.   I don't even walk that far and I did not go last weekend because of the heavy drag.   Will have to see what Sunday brings.....

Well I busted azz all day plowing and shoveling some roofs off and I'm pretty beat. At the hootie without his blow fish show now and driving 120 miles north after its over ( is it over yet ? )
Got somewhat good news that only about 8" fell up north but still going with the snow shoes.
Isn't this darn concert over yet ?????

Kinda wish I was there instead of here. Seen Jim with project percolator and of course with the band in their later years many times at the old crier and joyous lake.
I just can't seem to get into this yeee hawww stuff here tonight. ..well it's a valentine for the wife so I grin a bear it.. Is it over yet ?? Heck hootie ain't even taken the stage yet... Ugh..
Have fun tomorrow and let me know about the venue, a little further out for me then the old place but I might do the jorma show , schedule pending..

Talk is 4-5 days of mid 30s low 40s with a couple bouts of significant rain starting Tues.
While that sounds good to me people near creeks and rivers might not enjoy it as much.

Yeah Bob, I've been watching this one for a while. It seems as each day we get closer they are down grading the high temperatures. But still a few days above freezing and yes the possibility of significant rain. I guess we'll see what happens around here. Could be the start of high water season. Something tells me not a blow out for eastern end tribs though. Time will tell

Re:Weather thread 2014/02/15 10:57:04 (permalink)
Well, decided to go out and do a good bank pushing and clean up on the driveway just in case a late winter bomber hits us before the season is over. All of this chatter throughout the tristate and surrounding areas about the snow inspired me to take a walk out back. I live in a wind tunnel between two gradual slopes in which we can get a foot and a half of snow to have more than half of it blow away in an instant. For the past month its really been building up despite the ferocious wind. Well, once I got back beyond the field towards some brush, I ended up sinking to my waist. There is some serious snow out there. I have quite a few spring pits that made me decide not to go any further as they usually don't freeze and the possibility of sinking up to my neck didn't seem like fun.lol

I may get a chance to play around a little this weekend. I'm gonna possibly take a ride up to the heart of the tug region to take a peak. I imagine there's possibility of some areas holding near ten foot since my wind blown water logged region is holding anywhere from 2-4 foot.

Currently 25 and snowing... despite the sub freezing temp and the cloud cover... icicles are dripping...the thaw is here... it may be time to try and have a little fun ;)

I have talked to a few folks around and think the Sandycreek/ Lacona area is tops for snowfall,  getting more than the tug. although past 200 inches who is counting.   I pushed back the banks  a few weekends ago and should be good.  Actually my biggest complaint this winter has been the cold not the snow.  We really have been spared some of the larger LE events.  This is really what I call a n average winter for snow and a below average temps.  Now listen to me complain that I hope the warmer weather does not ruin my plans for the ice this weekend.  I am hoping for a little rain to gt rid of the snow on the ice and colder temps at night to firm it back up.  No rain will equal slush and too warm will equal bad shore ice.

Well as close as I can figure here at my house in SE Penna.we will have around 3 ft of accumulated snow on the ground when this snowfall ends today.I know that's ho hum in Salmon country but here it is close to epic.

Re:Weather thread 2014/02/15 16:19:28 (permalink)
Here its the opposite.
Every day they have bumped it up a degree or so and now add the possible 2 rain events.
Thurs they say low temp of mid 30s.
Unless it cinches back up next Mon when they say it drops again the people in the flood plain of my little piece of heaven might just need the basement pumps.
One good ice dam at the wrong place could make life interesting.

Then again as iced up as it is maybe 4 days of above freezing days with rain  may not even get me back to fishing conditions.

Checking the temps it looks good to keep thing tight.  I actually hope for at least a little rain to melt the snow on the ice

Jack I'm 100% with you , I HATE snow..
While up here In Laker land we only have about 9" snow on the lakes it was a tough drag even with snowshoes on. Everything is up hill both ways here and the word heart attack comes to mind. Gotta get one of those snowmobile thingies again..
I was so beat that we decided to bag the fishing and sleep in today.. I will give it hell again tomorrow ..

The weather was beautiful yesterday with no wind and mild temps. Today it's 10 degs and very windy.. I heard we got another 4-6" snow down home yesterday.
I see there is a warm up coming with possible rain later this week. Not what I want because I will have to shovel off a 38x 60 foot roof , I'm afraid it won't be able to handle the weight, it's pretty flat.
Ah well spring is coming and so it will bring mud season, yuck !! Sure gonna miss the ice and you'll all probably get sick of hearing me talk about the 2014-15 season all summer long..

We got around 4 inches from the lake effect and the sun is shining now. Dad must of got up early because my drive was plowed when I got up.   My fix on his truck must be holding.
Does not seem that windy.  I am still undecided on my plans today, but staying home seems better and better

Well on top of my snowblower's trans blowing my friend with the plow just told me a bolt broke and he can't find a replacement,so now I'm going to be shoveling the 200' long hill on my drive so I can get out of here. There's only 3 inches on it but there is black ice under it so this will be fun!

Re:Weather thread 2014/02/16 15:34:23 (permalink)
Looks like Tuesday through Saturday are forecasted above freezing but it seems like the warmth isn't as warm as they first called for... high thirties instead of high forties... chance for a bit of snow on Tuesday... Thursday is the big iffy one... it all depends on when the change over from rain to ice occurs... in reality though I think it will take more than what they're calling for to break the dam gates...

Got out on the river for an hour yesterday. Wanted to get out earlier. My spots of choice had been beaten before I came. Seemed to have been some action from the folks I spoke with. Zilch for me but the scenery and exercise was quite alright. There are still ice banks carved out down low from Januarys high water event... can only imagine what it wouldve looked like if we had a low flow winter earlier on

And yes it is snowing right now looking out the window

Yea they have scaled it back a bit with only one day at a low of 33 and thats in Syracuse so it will be cooler up on the hill.  I have a long weekend and hope it does not turn into a slush fest.  I AM hoping for a rain event  to knock down the snow.

I decided to just shovel two paths as wide as the wheel spread and was about 3/4 done with that when my plow friend showed up.So he plowed it but the plow was n't scrapping it clean and when he was done I still had to shovel the paths......AGAIN!
So tonight it's going down to 9 and everything will be frozen, hope there is some sun in the morning so I can get out and shop for some neccesities and then it can do whatever it wants on Monday night as I won't go out for awhile.
