Started this AM and plowed  the drive,  decided it was time to get the loader out and push back the banks, because it will be way to cold to do it in the near future.   Was pretty nice working at around 1000, but is had dropped hard and fast.  Looks like I will back out on the pond this weekend.  Thank goodness for the new shanty as it will be a much warmer time.

O my GOD!!!!......4 to 6 inches here in the Lehigh Valley and as much as a foot in S Jersey Tues is the forecast, they might have to call out the national guard!!!!
I bet you guys in Salmon Country get a kick out of the reaction to that "major" snow event down here.

Jack how about Cuomo calling state of emergency and closing route 81 From brewerton to the Canadian border? Meanwhile the deepest reading that was recorded was 31 inches in Watertown.picked up about a foot / foot and a half in the past two and a half days. -5 this morniNg in Pulaski... -18 in Watertown + 7 in Parrish 0 in Cicero. Colder teMPs than the state of emergency that he called a week and a half ago for the cOld temps. I guess he has had a change of heart.

All our wonderful lawmakers/politicians/azzholes are taking another day off due to the "major" snow event in DC,at least that will give them some time to read "Obamacare" to learn what is really in it!
Meanwhile it's snowing on my driveway.......again!

The river'll be empty tomorrow.  Much as I like going when there's available  water everywhere, I think
it'd be too much. Oh well, wait for a warm up. Don't forget your hat!

Luckily this coastal storm was just a glancing blow in my area.  Perhaps 4" of fine, powdery snow but with the wind ripping and temperatures at a balmy 1 degree snow throwing is akin to spitting in the wind.  Thank God I put one of those cabs on my snow thrower, well worth the investment.

Guys, While I do love the ice, winter has its pitfalls for me as well.. I can get my shanty to 60 degs. but I struggle keeping my house warm, my pipes thawed (yup frozen today) and my transportation running (truck has had dead battery for weeks now)..
Today - Last night was brutal.. Wind is what kicks my butt and it's still blowing hard out there now..
I gave up on a snowblower years ago because it would take me 4 days of misery to do my place.. ATV takes about 4 hrs.. Cold but quick..
Jack, your quite right the Ice is here for a good long while but I'm ready for that warm up dance already..

Stay safe out there guys..

Tuna I hear ya man... I brought in 2 cords of wood last night... my beard and moustache was a solid icicle... I try my best not to burn fuel in my boiler but last night was unavoidable... wood stove cranked and boiler set at 54.... held the house at 56 when I woke up this morning. 60 before ileft for work... it ain't too bad when its -27 actual temps outside. But as you know, its hard work to maintain... stay warm bud and everyone else. I've got 2 more cord to bring in tonight before the snow comes in again

I had fun feeding cows with  square bales to save my friend from using round bales in his unheated tractor. The wind chill was -30 here this morning and it felt it. At least throwing hay your moving.  I spent the afternoon in 2  different crawl spaces with a torch . One gave me fits it was so tight. I'm not claustrophobic, but it was ridiculous.   Oh well, it's no wonder my customers are very nice to me.

Well I take back my temp this AM.  One said -17 one said -21 and the one in the car said -24  take your pick.   I hear you on the fuel  DB  I keep my stat set at 63.  Above 20 degrees the boiler will not run below 20 degrees   It kicks on a few times.  Last night non stop.  I run the gas fire place and an electric heater in the bed room to give it a beak.   HT we had a line freeze this AM too.   Luckily I knew which one because last week I saw the insulation had fallen onto the woodpile and I was too lazy to climb over  3 rows of wood to put it back.   5 minutes with hair dryer and I could brush my teeth.   -3 right now.  I will not have an issue getting back to my perch spot as it will be froze solid.   Thank goodness for my shanty.  No heater, but I am going to try a gas lantern for heat.

Our plant is totally screwed tonight here. Something is wrong with the water intakes from the Hudson River. Divers are going under to look tomorrow everything runs on water here. Massive pumps, compressors and mills all use water.
Well when nothing is running its freezing, solid. Big money being spent right now

I'm guessing at least -20 actual temp tomorrow morning... luckily no frozen pipes for me but I am leaving my most downstream faucet at a trickle drip to be safe tonight. I don't think it even got above zero...by next Thursday ice should be 2 ft. Deep at some locations!!! Lol

I guess those divers will be warmer under the water than when then come out of the water,I hope they have heaters or they will be ice scuptures.

Yep going to complain a little about the cold, this is the longest stretch of below 0 temps I can remember for a long time.   Forecasting -6 in the cuse for Tues , wed thurs next week, but highs in the teens a 20's.   Looks like I am going to need to get fuel before the winter is out and that SUCKS

Hey, yippee,  they're ramping the river down to 500. Time for me to go get major frostbite and expand my Renauds' syndrome into  all my appendages!  Nahhhhhh, I'll go join HT on the hard stuff.....
Quite a spell- I hear you on the fuel, Clint. People on fixed incomes are being brutalized. Freeze or eat catfood......... I can't imagine being homeless.  My farmer friends are losing calves and lambs to the cold, I've heard the  phrase "this sucks" at least 100 times this week. Hope everyone makes it through with just the minor crap.

At 500 I just may have to go up and try on Sat.  It is supposed to be windy as hell so I may not want to go out on the ice and get blown away. I usually go through just about 1 tank of fuel a year.  Would go though alot less , but the boiler heats the  domestic hot water.   I can usually get away with filling up over the summer, but this year.................
