We got about 6 inches or so last night, but it was really fluffy stuff. Temps for 4 days don't look to get much below freeing so we will see. Alot is going to depend on the amount of rain we get on Saturday and if we get below freezing during night time. Could be bad or could be worse. I think we may get in the 3 to 4 k

I retract a little hoping it pays dividends later. 1, the water on the ice will make it stronger and easy walking 2. Less snow in the adk's mean early stripers with better conditions 3, at least I'm working while all this yuck is going on

rain was not horrible today came in a few spurts that was hard. Oneida was pretty much covered by an inch or 2 of water other that the high spots, does make walking out easier. With the flow at 2000k and release at 1800 we will see where it goes. Going out tomorrow for some perch and slime logs up to sandy pond

45 and sunny tomorrow!!! Bare ground for a lot of large lawns and open farm fields... thick brush in my backyard is still holding near a foot while my lawns are bare! Pineville, Albion, parts of town of Richland and of course Altmar are holding deeper snow. Village of Pulaski still has some snow with large plow piles still. I agree with lucky... still more to come. No where's near half way mark of winter yet and some areas may already be near the 200" mark... I'd say I've had at least 100 maybe more. The three seperate thaws we've had have done a number though. I'd say no more than 2500 cfs at this point probably early this week in to Wednesday... the snow is really packed to the north and east and as clint said not too much rain. On and off snow showers so far today with temp right around freezing point.

SOOOOOO, ice is not so nice today. Green point is not fishable ue to shore ice being gone and huge gas pockets at the Elms scare me. Wind is HORRIBLE. North Sandy bridge on rt 3 is closed due to flooding that thing is mad high due to ice. North is cranking in Woodville. Drove by MM road and E berg and that thing is cranking along too. The carnage from the ice storm is bad with trees everwhere, they will be cleaning up well into summer. Fished a few hours in Sacketts Harbor with no luck There goes a few bucks in gas and bait............

The gages get shut down by USGS, if they were actually freezing you would not get any stage reading either. When they are reading ice, you can get an approximate discharge by typing 60 or 90 into the right hand box for period and comparing stages from when there was a discharge with what you currently show for stage. Whoever is cooperating on that gage must have made some noise about wanting the current discharge, not the blue line. L13

Lucky, it was showing blue line for cfs discharge but it did give gauge height...
Clint, the scariest I've ever seen it up there was before internet and access to gauges... but I was also quite young and it was when the bridge was steel grated structure so you could see the water beneath you.

Area flooding is imminent according to national weather advisory... north pond is ice dammed and flooding surrounding areas west of rt. 3... no flash flooding; slow and steady rise. Maybe gonna be a wash out weekend by the time it catches up to the spill gates

Yes Jack thanks so much but the damage was too great from the rains..The big lakes are almost impossible to access without waders, to much water coming in and is floating the ice.. Looks like we will be targeting the smaller ones for pike, perch and walleye.. Next week should be GREAT !!!!!! COLD,COLD and COLDER .. I LOVE IT !!!!! p.S. I know my posts are usless info

Tuna its nice that you know. I'm still clueless that mine are useless. My water is going to drop to nothing and put an end to fish movement with this cold snap coming. See what I mean.

Might take a bit for that next 8000cfs or so to dwindle down to fishable but if there is no significant snowfall it might be if shape when we see above freezing again.

I heard a rumor that all tribs of lake Ontario that host anadramous strains of rainbow trout are gonna come to a screeching halt with this upcoming cold snap... people traveling more than 50 miles to fish should stay home and save their money for next snagging season

I told a guy from Hornel that this morning I was steering him straight. My crick is dropping pretty quick and fish movement has slowed way down. Waiting for freshies from the thaw but it looks like they are going to hang up in the lower sections or never made a move.

I walked down a steep trail today to this gorge on the Battenkill to test out some new crampon straps I made up. It still had some ice in the shady stretches. Normally this falls would be an impressive display of ice formations, and were just a short time ago. The Hudson has opened up a channel where it was solid last week. Strange roller coaster. I hope the lakes are going back in good shape. Attachments are not available: Download requirements not metDespite the rumors, I think I'll still fish when I feel like it.

Nice pics charlie... it is quite amazing how up and down the winter has been. Despite the three brief warm ups its been a pounding late fall to the present. I think it was over a month ago I had snow in my back yard up to my groin... just when you thought it was gonna be completely bare ground though, a fresh 4 on the ground right now... parts of richland, albion and in to Altmar have held a very dense ice pack that's anywhere from 8-16 inches though...

It is as cold as a witches butt crack out there... long term shows arctic vortex sticking around for a while.... could we go a month without above freezing temps??? Next question is how much snow is gonna come before April 15th is here??? Wonder if some towns/villages or hamlets come near or brake any records for snow totals. Wed have to get a big bomber to do that I'm sure but still 2+ months to go here...
