The Chartist is driving from SW Ohio to the SR today, his entire trip will be driving through LE snow squalls, hope he arrives there in one piece.I'm sitting here in Hudson Ohio looking for a break in this crappy weather to go the 100 miles east to the Penna tribs, looks like it's the weekend or nothing so I hope everyone has something else to do so I can find some water to fish!
Fitchy I'll be looking for those "little hotties" later today

8 is the predicted high for New Year's Day. I expect the crowds will be thinner than the past couple of years.  I'll take it.  Good luck to everyone this weekend.  Does anyone know how it's been fishing  on the North side behind Stalag 13 and Schoolhouse?

Pa,

Why do you drive all the way back to Pennsy?  The Erie tribs in Ohio look really good as well.

Le warning still active but accumulations are backed down from 10-18 to only 3-5... I'm sure somewhere will get an isolated bomb drop

The Ohio tribs take longer to drop and clear, but even if they are fishable most are in the "snow belt" east of Cleveland so I still have to drive through it.Did you catch the news clip of a huge pile up on RT 90 at Painsville Ohio? That's the road I have to travel!Even today it is just cloudy here in Hudson, but when I look on the radar that snow belt shows lots of green. When I was young and fearless (or dumb) I would n't have cared, but in my golden years I would rather sit by the fire.
Did I mention that I HATE WINTER!

Well, I am back in Cinci having arrived around 6:30pm Saturday....No snow on the trip up until I hit the NY/PA line and that lasted maybe 10 miles....All clear till Route 11 exit off 81 north in NY.  The snow got heavy but the wind shifted and maybe Pulaski got 3 inches on Thursday instead of the predicted 12 inches.  The fishing was slow on Friday with only two hookups.  Both came 150 yards downstream of the Altmar bridge.  I'm sure you guys know the hole I am talking about.  I have no pictures cuz I got broke off both times.  I see someone bought the Altmar school and is converting it into a fishing lodge?

For folks who did nothing on Saturday, I had a friend went to Goose Bay, three of them set 15 tip ups for two days and had a total of 5 flags, nothing on the 14+ inches of ice, 2-3 perch jigging and no one else was running much either.  Last Saturday was apparently really slow wherever you went.

Plenty cold, new ice by next week around here.  Genny still at 8000+!

I just saw an extended forecast for my area on Friday.  Projected high of 12, low of -10.  I have a feeling the oil bill is going to be high this winter.
Stay safe and warm everyone.
Happy New Year to you all.

Wow... two seperate heavy snow squalls just hovered just north of 104 up through sandy creek as I traveled back and forth through them... dumped anywhere from 3-6 in just a little over an hours time. Wind is whipping and although the sun just came out for minute it looks like another round is coming... blinding is an understatement. Anyone thinking of travelling be real careful. With this wind blowing from the lake I imagine Altmar and farther east are gonna get piled up big time

Charlie if you're traveling be real careful. I heard northern oneida, Madison and Herkimer counties may get impacted. I know you take the back way sometimes. Check the forecasts for your path of travel... interstates may work better for you... be safe

Home safe. We went last night and camped in the truck.  Had an absolute BLAST! on a basically empty river. 4wd from Altmar to Rome, but just blowing and squalls with clear roads after that. Thanks for the concern, it's appreciated.  Very few out today. Not one drift boat left Altmar and the lots was nearly empty.   Fish were there! Report  with pics tomorrow. Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I think it snowed 3" in 10 minutes at one point.  Eskimos have nothing on you guys.

Well we dodged the "bullet" again last night only got around 10 inches.  I think Pulaski got dumped on again though.   All plowed out and going to work to stand around all day...........

Looks as if the first snow of 2014 is going to hit my area tomorrow afternoon into Friday.  Expecting up to a foot but as long as the power stays on no big deal.

I'd say 10 is all I got but the wind probably blew another ten in to Altmar :)
Blinding squalls for sure. Was in Altmar last night and the wind was much lighter with a steady snow. Definitely more snow accumulated there as usual

Well, that'll put a fine point on the ice. I imagine Lake George will be -25.
I guess winter's here and being normal.  You can't put a big enough heater in a drift boat!
I expect it may be slow on the river this weekend. Hope you get out on the ice when it moderates, Clint.  Have a safe drive, Jack. Spring is coming, next thing you know, a steelie will be ripping downriver with one of your flies and Rich or Clint or I will be running after it with the net....

There was 7" ice on the big water of schroon on Monday and about 9 " on tues. I"d expect a foot or more by next Monday when I get back.
Lake George has ZERO ice. If the winds stay low then the ice will grow. Generally I don't get on that lake until late jan but it tends to last through March.

We are looking at 12-15" snow locally by Friday. Luckily it is staying below the adk's so that is a big plus to me.
Stay safe and keep warm folks.
Happy new year !!!!!

I now see that when I arrive at the house Friday PM 6+ inches will be piled up on my 300' inclined driveway. So that means after driving 6.5 hrs I'll be running the snowblower just to get the car in the garage.Boy that sounds like a fun day!

Have I mentioned......I HATE you know what

I can't wait for spring to give the net guys/Nancy a work out
