And why wait until Sunday night.   I think they are taking the fishing and local economy into consideration.

HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BUFFALO NY
334 PM EST FRI NOV 15 2013

NYZ001>008-010>014-019>021-085-162045-
NIAGARA-ORLEANS-MONROE-WAYNE-NORTHERN CAYUGA-OSWEGO-JEFFERSON-LEWIS-
NORTHERN ERIE-GENESEE-WYOMING-LIVINGSTON-ONTARIO-CHAUTAUQUA-
CATTARAUGUS-ALLEGANY-SOUTHERN ERIE-
334 PM EST FRI NOV 15 2013

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR WESTERN AND NORTH CENTRAL NEW
YORK.

.DAY ONE...THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT.

THE PROBABILITY OF WIDESPREAD HAZARDOUS WEATHER IS LOW.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY.

A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO RAPIDLY INTENSIFY OVER THE
WESTERN GREAT LAKES ON SUNDAY. THERE WILL BE A POTENTIAL FOR
STRONG DOWNSLOPING WINDS TO DEVELOP ACROSS WESTERN NEW YORK AHEAD
OF THIS SYSTEM ON SUNDAY.

AS THE LOW TRACKS INTO QUEBEC SUNDAY NIGHT A STRONG COLD FRONT
WILL SWEEP ACROSS WESTERN AND NORTH CENTRAL NEW YORK. THE
COMBINATION OF VERY STRONG WINDS ALOFT ALONG WITH WARM AND MOIST
CONDITIONS PRECEDING THE FRONT WILL CREATE THE POTENTIAL FOR THE
DEVELOPMENT OF A SQUALL LINE ALONG OR JUST AHEAD OF THE FRONTAL
BOUNDARY AS IT CROSSES THE REGION. THE MAIN THREAT SHOULD THIS
SQUALL LINE MATERIALIZE WILL BE STRONG TO DAMAGING WINDS.

Makes for real sweet casting, and don't forget your hard hat and shoulder pads!  Of course, this is for Sunday.

They also call for 0.5 or more of rain Sunday into Monday, and then it goes Arctic for a while.

Well it was a gorgeous Fri. Sat., and the moon was absolutely  incredible.
I guess I picked the wrong days to fish, but I did have the weather. It'll be interesting to see if cold and snow knock the crowds down.

Well the weather put me on hold out here in Erie with all the streams blown, won't even try until Wed.
My heart goes out for those unfortunate people in Ill.,there were tornado warnings here at my daughters place but thank god nothing but wind/rain occurred.

Ten day forecast has every night from now below freezing with some nights in the teens. Hopefully we can some powerful winters the next few years to knock the socks off of the people who aren't quite fit for true steelhead fishing... lol!!! Honestly though, the last few years weather wise and water wise have been a walk in the park...

I'm with you, Dime. Let the guide freezing begin! I must admit below zero fishing  is brutal, but I've weathered single digits OK. Nancy and I have convinced Stoney to let us set up camp and use a chemical toilet so he needn't keep the bathroom open. Or he'll rent us a trailer really cheap.  I can bring water, propane heater and gear for sub-zero. Not the least problem.  I actually like to winter camp and would rather avoid the lodges. We stayed at Stoneys one late Dec. weekend 3 years ago and snowshoed in through the field to fish. Absolute solitude  and when the sun came out it was gorgeous beyond words. I even caught a few!  For me, it's when the river really shines.  We could have been  in Kamchatka for all we knew. You're right Dime, the non-freezing of the upper river is  something to be appreciated.

Was 16 degrees with a heavy frost OUCH --like Kiddie in Feb.
Today - mid 40s and drizzle.

Well really could care less if we get an inch and hoping we do not.   Neck has been hurtin and not looking forward to  snow removal duty, but I am ready if need be.  I think it will bee a white Thanksgiving though.  I will take the cold as it will bring ice.  Heard the Lake is colder than usual right now and if it keeps getting colder it will cut down on the lake snow some

rg passed on  a nice 8pt this morning at 9 thought it wasn't as big as the one I got mounted and after starring at the mount the one I let go this morning was much bigger. Passed a nice basket 6 last sunday and probably 10 doe so far. Been the best year in the deer woods Ive ever had and pictures I have been seeing of kills are huge, largest has been 13 many 10s and big 8s. Tuna hope you get ice soon brother, congrats on your deer. As far as the fishing goes got a float in last Friday and had 4 pulls but nothing got stuck, was kinda weird I thought because everyone was smacking fish the pinners, fly guys and bottom bouncers every hole we went thru would have like two hook ups and the plug rods were ice cold....oh well got buck fever now so back to the deer woods tomorrow, tight lines guys and fingers crossed for an artic freeze that will surely pleeze the tuna

Get this , 2 guys I know WERE ice fishing yesterday in saranac and got a nice piike. Crazy for sure but they are still youngsters .
Jack, seems they are still selling ice gear . Just bought my son a set of 5 tip ups from Minnesota today..
Clint, sure hope things heal up soon for you . I know your a hard worker and having pain makes it harder.
Be safe, stay warm and may everyone's hands be covered in fish slime.

I will walk on water in 2 weeks or less :)

Now if only we all could bring some meat to the table..

Slight snow squall here about hr ago but still seems warm out.. Get ready for the Artic blast fellas and keep those guides free of ice or throw another log on the fire..

Lets hope we don't get that big snow dump like last year that screwed things up early..

Tuna... they're predicting higher accumulations by me the next few days... hope it avoids your neck of the woods. I am very happy to see the ground getting a solid freeze though as last year was a mess!!! As for anyone worrying about the river going up... it shouldn't with this freeze up halting most runoff... a bigger snow followed by a thaw with rain would make stuff blow out major though with the ground being Frozen

I see its supposed to not get above freezing for awhile on the river , including this weekend. Maybe it'll drop to 750 or 500 after tomorrow. I've got metal just about sticking to my fingers this morning. Winter's here.  Higher elevations in S. Vt. may get a couple of feet Wed.-Th.  , I haven't heard for the daks.  Water temp is 36 and dropping.  Winter lies it looks like.
Edit-They changed the forecast in Vt. to be too warm- just a bunch of rain/sleet.

Both places I'm watching are in the 1,600 ' elevation . 1 near north hudson and the other long lake. It's staying in the teen- to low singles every night with below 30 at day. Makes water freeze in my opinion. Snow like what happened early last year , thin ice and heavy snow ain't good . The big storm coming is 8-10" predicted , nothing for you lake O guys but might suck in the adk's .

Keep the plows ready :) It might get sloppy ..

The o'dark 30 folks  will be sitting in snow and waiting in a balmy 4 predicted degrees Fri. morning.  That's as low as I've started at daylight, this is gonna be a test for me. I've had people tell me of fishing and catching steelhead  at 15 below, but low  single digits is pushing the envelope for me.  Time to break out the  bomber hat and heavy fleece pants.  If Nanc goes with me Fri. morning, I'll set up an emergency blanket shelter for her  before I start fishing.  The water's gonna be pegged at 33- 34 by Fri., too.  You're getting your early Christmas present, HT. The global warming heat switch   is on off.
