Gotta disagree. Many spots from south bank. At 1k two possible spots to cross but one may have changed. A third spot to cross does come to mind. But, I wouldn't wish fifty bucks on anyone if thrre was the slightest bit of doubt.Pouring rain right now. Let's hope they were right with this past weeks flow release... if not its gonna be a blowout from the rain forecasted tonight

DB maybe you mis understood me, I said it's BEST fished from the south bank in high water.. There are Many that fish well over there in high water..  The ones I mentioned are best from the NORTH in high water and they are few..
I think your NUTS lol if you cross anywhere but the tail of the glide in 1K.. lol..

Of course I 'm about to qualify for the GEEZER area located by the boat launch in the LFZ  (Geriatric Easy Entrance Zone and Emergency Removal), so I can't comment on anyone's wading. I'll tell you the high water wading makes me feel old.

Misunderstanding??? On the internet???? No way man!!!! Lol :)

1K is absolutely pushing it. If iremeber correctly it was always my cut off for crossing the tail of the flats to fish joss hole... and if run off was hard it was out of the question. Gonna have to give it a look see soon when the water comes down... that's if it ever comes down!!!

I hope it stays up thru most of next week, that'll give the Veterans Day snaggers a challenge!
As far as crossing anywhere at 1000 forget it for me,500 is bad enough but doeable.750 really weeds out most crossings for me and 1K as I said forget it.

Re: Weather thread 2013/11/07 19:06:11 (permalink)
A friend of mine who comes from Florence and lives in Henderson went through Redfield the other day and says the res is as high as he's seen it.  With the North Branch back over 1000 and the need for storage for the winter, I would not get my hopes up for low flows anytime soon.

That said, we still found some sweet spots at 1760.  However, it was not hero casting!  A spey rod was too long for a lot of the spots, I probably maxed out at 15 feet of line+leader beyond the rod tip yesterday PM.  I would go to a big hole, like trestle or sportsman's, then go upstream looking for bubbly water along shore with those "ever so small in these flows" buckets, and some impossible stuff in the middle of the river.  Find a bathtub you like the swing of, and engage in patient short line repetitive motions while waiting for one or two that have been resting in the inaccessible depths below to start up, and hopefully lite you up.

Another topic that came up in conversation with Slayer (who should be reintstated to the board, I don't remember him getting out of hand, and he is an extremely knowledgeable angler) is the shift from fall to winter mode.  He thinks it is happening, and looking at the forecast, even if they were still looking very fall like yesterday, I think these low temps may bring an end to fall, and the onset of the winter patterns. So if it does drop, the fish may not be in all the regular "frisky" spots, but have settled into that 1 foot off the bottom of something fairly deep and dark.

As to wading in this stuff, wear your hip boots and you won't even be tempted. I don't want to be reading any of your names in the local papers!

p.s.  Did not see many pacmanners or other nefarious sorts on this trip, even up in Altmar.

Thanks for the report L13 and great points to the high water flows. However, as to slayer. He brought absolutely NOTHING to the forum. Never a report and never any info. He joined the slamo - drake band wagon by only bringing useless YouTube videos of women & children.
My thoughts is we are not missing a thing. He may be a great guy, fisher but a poor forum contributor
.
Edit:
P.S.
I think drake was the only one banned, the others left on their own..

If bringing something to the board was a requisite for being here, the ~23,000 views for ~1000 posts on this thread says something about "participation."

Re: Weather thread 2013/11/08 06:08:43 (permalink)
lucky thanks for the update on the reservoir. If I lived a little closer to it I for sure would have checked but as you know I was pretty sure last week that It had to of been beyond full and I am still shocked that they backEd the water down in the beginning of this week as they did. As we are seeIng its not going down anytime soon. maybe the fish that are in altmar that have been in for a while could be transitioning into winter lLies..but remember it's only first week of November and there are plenty more fish To come. I would suppose that the high water could be pushing them into winter like runS.

snow and ice accumulated just below parish this morning. They better get their head on straight up there at the **** gate because if we get a lake effect snow storm you know it'll be a blowout once it warms up again and it melts..

lastly a question not an answer, what would stop anyone from signing up to this board?

Re: Weather thread 2013/11/08 06:33:55 (permalink)
I think the new ones will keep coming, but I think it will be a slow progression with long stops in the deep spots, and maybe no action for stretches of cold followed by the kind of 1 per hour we were seeing along the edges on Tuesday and Wednesday when ( or if) it warms up.  I also think this would be a good time to check the water above 2a, where everybody says it levels out too much for good spots on the lower flows, these may be setting up as more classic west coast type lies on this water.

Like you, Clint, I'm going to be scratching my head for a spot around here as well.  The Genny went over 2000 again last night, and the other ditches locally are low again, and my truck says it might leave me stranded if I try to coax a north run out of her.

North went up and is coming back down...

Lucky, as slayer would probably agree... those fresHies are hot up until about ball park until December once you find a concentration of them... and yes few and far between... but they are hot coming out of the lake up until about Christmas...

I hope Slayers threats were just a joke. Not a very good one. If he wants to throw me in the river, he can try.  I won't go easy, though.

this site allows one to view without being a member or logging in.. So I can see where many look with out participating.. If that is how one wishes to "participate" then what need is there to join the forum ?
Your quite right, in a forum that was by the book with heavy moderation I woulda been tossed LOOOOOONG ago..  There is a difference however between ball busting and just out right threats..
If you look at the Eastern NY & Ice boards here you will see it's dead as dead gets.. In the capitol region icemen list everyone of those folks used to contribute in a big way and are good friends of mine.. Those 2 forums used to be red hot with information and pictures.. It only took 1, yes ONE drake esque episode with the help of the moderator for everyone of those good folks to leave on their own accord.. Many pm's from those who just "look" asked to over look the issue and continue the participation that was once there..Now look at the place, a ghost town without reason for even being..

Sorry man , right or wrong, thats just my thoughts..

Yesterdays weather was crap, cold rain and windy.. Never made it outside as I felt like the weather.. Things looked good today so I went to the blind for the first hr of day light.. Nadda..
Gonna take the grandson to Gander Mt. for a little shopping spree :)
May hit the stand for the afternoon..
Good luck out there to all you water walkers :)

Why should it be a question??? If someone wants to join they have every right to... as most know it can be a tough crowd if pushed the right way... and snide remarks with little input is never appreciated.

Fichy, I've seen slayer around and hes never imposed threat in person. Id assume he's an alright guy. Maybe he'll say hello one of these days.

Yes, 500 Monday and Tuesday, next week is the one to be there, back to size 6 wets with 2 bb's, and ability to fish nearly all the water.  Oh, well, work remains the curse of the fishing class!

Wow.  That's amazing.  I'd love to take a long walk from Pineville, only because I know some spots I'd love to fish that I'm familiar with, and possibly would fish well. I'm sure I could find some to play with. The North Branch is trending down quickly. Darn, it's going to be a zoo, though. I really still can't go until the end of next week. Hopefully, it'll not be back  over 2k .
I'm sure some of you guys will be putting lots on the bank. Pics and reports, please.
