Nice deal L13. Man 15 min away or driving 110 ? Geesh .. Guess the screen name fits well..
The extended forecast in pulaska is looking dry until at least thurs. Flows are dropping and if I see a grand or less by thurs I may be feeling frisky for a fishy ..

L13. Like tuna said, sounds like a no brainer bud.

Question: are those gauges new? If so, it must be the reason they are doing so well up at the dam. If not new, they must "finally" pay better attention to them. Just hit the wall in town with the kids. Water looks great. If it weren't for the kids I'd be out on the scout hardcore..

My guess , and only a guess , someone got their head handed to them on a plate after Oct 2010. I thought last winter, even the 1,000 flows , it was great management .

Well it stayed below 40 all day.   Tuna there was still a skim on all the puddles at noon.   Did a little dry wall (yes I am still working on that room with the closet) and cut  about 2 cords of next years wood.   Still need to drop about 7 or 8 more trees to have all next years down, but that's no biggie, then I just pick away at it.   Next major project it to run wires and mount or 50 inch flat screen on the wall.  Biggest pain is picking out the frigging mount.

Looks like it came online 10/29.   Also it is says it is managed by NY water science center , Troy    where as the one at Pineville   and the one up North  is run in cooperation with the US Geological Survey.

The Water Science Center in Troy is part of USGS.

Went back to the home field today after chores, there were three pro type Pac Manners working the tail out, and a group of Chinese folks fishing bobbers and eggs off the handicap platform.  No one in the falls, 20 minutes no action, check 4 more spots down 1/4 mile , did not see a fish or anyone with one on.  Sometimes you can find the skunk anywhere you go, near or far!

Didn't check the mercury this morning but it felt like high teens... ground was frozen solid... almost looked like a winter wonderland at first light. Water was beautiful yesterday. Altmar either is or is gonna be on fire ... probably today!

It's flowing at 1800 at Pineville and they are releasing 1500 until midnight,it's going to be a challenge for those fly swatters but a float on spin tackle along the seems should be good. However since the upper river will be mobbed with people it might take the fun out of it.

Limited water for swatters for sure, but the water is stable... hopefully fan can get out with his plugs soon... I'm gonna try my best to run some rapalas along some undercuts... gonna be tough with the loss of light though now...

Yes it is clint. May have had the slightest bit of green tint late yesterday ;) it is too bad. Too busy though...Bottom line. Did a suicide run at 5 pm today for the last 20 minutes of light. Water was a little too dead for the area of target... should've done it two Bob style when the wind was gusting a steady 40 a few days ago ;)

Dime probably wont make a run up again till end of next week then Ill be fishing everyday with anyone! Last 2 weeks in November have proven to be my biggest fish weeks on the plugs with 750 to 1000cfs my best producing flows. For sure not this weekend though, snowmobile club bridge rebuild and a major repair from the spring floods.

Does look to be a good one brewing out west.  Up to 1850 tonight.   With the increased flow kept up this week they should stay on top of it.  What is in the air is how much (as in rain)  and how long (will the river stay up).   I am with HT I may climb a tree this weekend.

I Hope all works out for you. I'm honestly very happy to see the flows recently though. Last year at this time there were a lot of fish but they were beat... not this year...

I'm stuck wondering: is the flow increase fore site??? Or is it partly playing catch up to last weeks event??? Either way its good. What a consistently wet fall its been... and besides our late summer dry spell... early half of summer was drenching!!! Awesome!!!

I'm stuck rushing dry wood in to the wood porch... waited for a while to let it dry... think this is my last chance. The hatches are oiled and ready

Your right, Andy. The fish are going into the colder weather much better off, and less are getting bejeweled  or strung on a rope. I might have to adjust to high water (if I land  1 steel  a trip I'm happy)  and hope that the winter will fish well because of the fall conditions.  I might have to pick your brain for some DSR high water  spots.  I might go give it a try.  Hope backstrap and liver is on the menu for you guys.  Good luck.

Charlie... give me as much advanced notice and I'd try my best to spend a whole day with you down there if possible. I may have a little rust on my eyes and shoulders (as twobob has put perfectly based on a changing river with less time spent on it) but I get lucky from time to time ;) and many runs do hold out thfough the years.. My favored time down there was usually now until Christmas timish ... then late January/early February thaw on harsh winter years.... plenty of time my friend
Got my first of the year taste of back strap today... looking forward to Thanksgiving :)

Charlie,
from my experience in dsr.. The best high water spots are on the south side.. You need special access permission to get over there.. There is only 1 place I would cross at 1,000 (release) or so flow but none at 1,500..
From the north bank in high water my spots were limited to the meadow, maybe the head of the wall and of course the glide.. The latter 2 fish better from the south, meadow from north..
Save the fitty if it's above a grand..  Just IMO..

Gotta disagree. Many spots from south bank. At 1k two possible spots to cross but one may have changed. A third spot to cross does come to mind. But, I wouldn't wish fifty bucks on anyone if thrre was the slightest bit of doubt.Pouring rain right now. Let's hope they were right with this past weeks flow release... if not its gonna be a blowout from the rain forecasted tonight

Re: Weather thread 2013/11/07 07:21:27 (permalink)
Sounds like a good day, Dime, we'll try to make it happen. Even though I spend a lot of time scrambling over rugged terrain with a pack on and climbing around on roofs repairing slate, I  don't like hairy water crossings.
Fear of drowning?  I came close to buying it, fishing alone when I was about 13. A steep bank collapsed and I went in with hip boots strapped to my belt.  They didn't pull me under, but they kept me from crawling out or moving very far.  Eventually they got unhooked and I wriggled out of them. As it was in early  April, I froze my azz off walking home. I'm very leery of tides and currents.  Confidence is part of strong wading. I've seen Andy cross in the DSR, he made it look easy. I might of made it where he crossed, but I would have been nervous. For him, it wasn't reckless, it's what he feels comfortable doing. Over 1,000, I'll carefully creep along the shore and pick my battles.  No crossings for me!

That's right fichy, I crossed in front of you just out from the stairs. Just above the tail out of island Above stairs is crossable...just as right above island below. Above the joss island just below flats is always navigable... let me know your possible dates and hopefully make it happen
