Fichy not really so much. With every flood things change and as I have aged I've A) fished it less (mainly just the time I really like) 2) not had the stamina of my youth to go prospecting(sad but true) So if I go this week (and I will unless the home trickles are fishing crazy good) I will guess, pull in take a look and a poke or two and move around looking. By way of asemi off point memory. I used to walk in from Coho street over the top of the Blackhole to a spot between what is now the Glide and the little Black that was along the south bank that on high water I would fish top water with some minor success. Low water and the top of your boots was dry.

Dime, that's a good point about the rocks above the bridge, but in high water I can't get a drift without weight and can't land them, either. I know you have spots to fish off the bank when it's high, I really don't. I look for spots that still are running 3-5 mph and where I have a shot at pulling them into slower water, rather than trying to land them where it's ripping fast and a slip is dangerous. I suppose I could c&d this coming week if I have to. Not really my cup of tea, but it does produce fish. I hate using it in low water- it's the epitome of flossing. In high and fast , it's more of a quick way to get down and make a presentation. I keep hearing the S word on the news, I hope you guys don't get an early burial!

Although the word is in the forecast I really do not expect any HUGE accumulations (more than 4 to 6 inches over the next week. Rain on the other hand may come. I am with the others and also have not been doing this enough to have any really good spots in high water. If it is super high this weekend I will just get chores at home done and wait it out until it lowers. With everything though it gets better with trying it out. 2 years ago I would not have thought about fishing at 1k and now I have a few go to spots that fish pretty well.

Fichy, I know you caught fish in 1 high water spot as you described.. It always produced for me even in 3,000 .. It looks like a tough go now with the BIG Oak lying across .. Think inside seams with a bobber.. The swing will be tough for a fly swatter but glory with a Phat Rainbow Trout Rapala.. Just upstream of above said area is the nice stone walk way leading to the plunge.. Generally I pass it in low frog back eddy , but she should be a holding fish now :) That big net will come in handy.. Some popular high water for me have been below the long bridge(aka staircase) (north), the B-hole (north at tail) , The papermill(north), 81-hole (south) , pineville south (tough land area) and lately north side of lfz.. I just Think long deeper runs and fish the inside seam.. Really want to fish tomorrow but given the conditions expected , wind, rain and snow ? for a suicide run it seems best to place all my chips on b(j) ack next week..

Fichy, c and d with fly gear for steelhead was spawned from high water conditions. We started with weight forwards and minimal weights but we often came and it would be a gate and a half or two gates and after a 4 hour ride we fished however we could to catch fish. C and d eventually became exploited and the intent of catching fish legally was skewed... all in all its not a bad method when used properly. Can't tell you how many times I've fished the joss hole in high water from the north bank using c and d along the slate seam hammering fish... or should I say fish hammering. It definitely has a bad rap on the river these days, but if I were you and you had no other choice go for it bud. Good luck if you go.

I did see some SW winds, Jack, but little in the way of sun. Hey, sun will just blind you on the sides of the steel you're gonna catch. I am hoping the river goes no higher than what it's currently running. John's report should tell us a lot. Hope he had a great day.

Jack...not a cloud in the sky at the moment... a favored high water spot of nine is burning a hole in my chest. Just might have to float some beads or sacs through as long as no ones in it... an hours effort at most.
Fichy, regardless of Johns report, the fish are here...you just gotta find em... I'll be shocked if he got skunked though

At the same time DB wrote that an hour ago it was absolutely pouring in Syracuse and was just starting to pitch a few tiny hail balls. I got SOAKED walking to my car. Although I am sure I could find a spot here or there I will probably just get stuff done around the house if I can this weekend. For Jack's sake I hope it lets up a bit.

Clint its dried up here bud. . Could change though. First spot chosen was packed. Decided to hit my green water but unfortunately it was brownish instead.. oh well. I'm really starting to question this whole video game of a fishery we got here. Cars everywhere and little open water. I used to look forward to open water this time of year. I guess I'll wait it out more.
BTW , winds were sw all day long... luckily its not too cold or else wed be buried in lake effect

Well I got a TON of stuff done today and almost ready for the winter blitz. Blower on the tractor, plow on the truck. Back porch enclosed and boat is put away in storage for anther year. Weather was cool and sprinkley all day, but no real rain so to speak. Just a few sprinkles here and there. Did I mention it's windy, because it is very windy too. I have to go into Pulaski tomorrow to get some Aquaseal as the buckle of the corkers wore a hole through my nephews new boots so time for a patch job Weather wise looks like more of the same tomorrow and the river is staying at 1200 release

No fishing for me till next week finished a lot of drywall for a friend today with a lot more to do tomorrow. Buddy of mine just got a doe after missing a great 10 pointer. Man it seems life is cranking by full bore!

Sprinkles on and off all day, but nothing big. A few peeks of sun here and there too. Started cutting a few trees for next year and did something I knew I should not do and bent the bar of my saw. Will have to borrow dads saw to finish a few more trees

Wind was ripping this morning. Took a ride down to the lake and steady 4 foot rollers were pounding the surf. Wanted to hit dsr for a few but never got the chance. Got a few quick drifts at the ball park mid morning with no success.

Wow, forecast for the next few days is looking iffy... calling for a possible inch of rain on Thursday in to evening.... rain forecasted Wednesday through Saturday. Warm air on Friday with a heavy WSW wind coming over the lake on friday. Could be a soaker fellas... wish I could've fished yesterday and today. Beautiful weather with little wind and stabilized flows every where... oh well. Kudos to anyone who got out.

Rt, two flow gauges I watch to predict flows coming from tug went up Saturday night ... one of them surprisingly went up today out of nowhere... must of been a fluke isolated storm??? But Saturday and Sunday got heavier rains to the north and east so naturally it takes a few days for it to get to the dam... I think that's why they probably raised it. Thursday in to Friday will be a whole other bowl of wax. If it comes hard we may see some natural run off as an instant increase but most likely it will be a Saturday or Sunday flow increase for the dam. Its been really dry today and yesterday so the ground will absorb some... but not a lot. I have two spring flows in my backyard that I am tuning in to for approximations of local natural flows. Its pretty neat. The tug hill is a whole other bowl of wax. This past winter proved that as we had a flood from a dry week in the beginning of April. Little that most knew there was still 6 foot on tug. I had a pic of my son the week before the flood standing next to a ten foot bank up on the hill while even Altmar had bare ground just about. I'd venture to say ice damming had a big play in that. Thank god we didn't get rain as it would've been a record breaking flood probably

Hey- how has the Ho picture been this season ??- frankly wasn't overly impressed last year or this from personal experiences.. Fishing reports this year are few and far between- cept for the regs.

Well I got word from pafisher and conditions did not sound good. There are fish to be had but lots of water making a fly flingers day difficult . From the sounds of things his trip may get cut short.
I spent the morning tying up a bunch of new creations and hope I get a chance to use them thurs & fri.
Im still game but will see what happens with this weather and how many folks are willing to give it a go.

After looking at weather underground again, it don't seem like a total washout. Thoughts are going through my pea brain that the increase now could possibly be due to the project healing waters event scheduled fri- sun. Hoping the increase is so they can DECREASE the water for the event.

We went up today for a day trip. We found some beautiful water in a few places around town, and saw men into fish but we had no takers. 2B got one in the LFZ, bright hen about 13-14 lbs. We went by trout and there was not a huge amount of water there, but Orwell had a pretty good flow where we went over it. As you heard from PA, it is not easy, but it can be fished. I think that's a good notion, HT, I may be able to sneak away Saturday, if they drop the release for WW. Otherwise, the Genny is dropping nicely, and there were fish there when I went in on Sunday. Sorry I can't get away earlier to see you guys, but the job does not allow this year. L13

Believe it or not quite a few guys in town this evening when I drove through. Its looking like high water or bad weather doesn't matter anymore. Folks tough it through and learn I guess.
