With it still coming down, we got about 15" heavy heart attack snow. ATV did not like plowing that at all. I spent 3 hrs just clearing vehicle access areas. That meant pushing snow as. Far back as possible in just those areas. LOTS of clean up ahead for another day. I hate snow. Only hope is the northern ny got less or dragging an ice sled is really gonna suck this year.

Snowfall, no. This is about 3rd highest record. It's a mess this early because now we run out of room before winter even starts. The cities will be dumping a LOT into the Hudson river trying to get rid of it

Not what I want is happening. Heavy snow that's hard to move on top of non frozen saturated clay and bright sun. Snow is soaking up water. It WILL freeze and then become ice. Any thaw that happened on the east was ice by time I got home. Applied ashes from woodstove to solid ice areas. If I don't at least expose as much as possible to hopefully melt this week, its gonna be ugly here. Thankfully no winds or trees and power would go down. I've already had to pile snow in areas I try to reserve for February. No more snow for winter dance please Jack

Yes, this was NOT a Lake effecter, more of a Nor'easter. The Eastern Seaboard and inland to HT's area, got hammered, and even more so north of there into the 'daks, while the amounts dissipated as you go west. Here in Rochester we had about 6", but it was even heavier than the 10" we got a couple of weeks ago. As HT says the bottom was sitting on unfrozen ground, and there was rain to pre cede the snow, so the bottom couple of inches was just like lead, and turned to ice as soon as night fell if it was not removed. My plow guy has had some problems with his truck, so I got out and effectively shoveled the driveway twice as I took one cut about 4" down, the picked up the bottom 2". I also did a lot of it with a small coal shovel, so what should have taken about an hour took 4 with all the doctor mandated breaks. And my back was beyond the reach of ibuprofen yesterday. The wood ashes work great, but you have to really watch the shoes coming into the house. But after this past fall, my kitchen is getting in industrial strength mopping later today, or tomorrow, whatever my gimpy back will allow! So when was Indian Summer supposed to arrive this year?

Don't know how everyone has been holding up but here comes real winter round here. There is snow on the ground that's not looking to melt soon. Deeper temperatures are moving in and windchill is picking up. It's now officially ice season here and I'll start a tread on 2019-20 this weekend. Stay safe and whenever possible stay warm.

Cold seems to be here for the long haul.... Good for the hard water fisherman, not so much for the arthritis. There always seems to be wood to bring in, ashes to take out and chicken chores to keep busy though. Spring is only 4 months away, lol.

I hear that. Winter is the only reason I don't keep year round stock. Give you folks all the credit and well wishing. Spring might be 4 months away but there is at least 20 weeks of ice to fish... Keep the snow low..

I put a 15 lb turkey on the smoker yesterday and it was 27Β°, at 1 PM. It came off at 11:30, it was 11Β° on my phone. At 40Β° outside, it would have taken about 6-7 hours. It is 8Β° here now and isn't getting much warmer before late tomorrow. So things are making ice, but then it pops back up into the high 30's on the weekend. Old Forge was -9Β° this AM, though, so I think the Adirondacks will be hard water pretty soon.

So I've been stoking my woodstove at night before bed and returning home from work to low 50's in the house. Still coals from 19 hrs prior to just add wood. It usually takes an hr to go from low 50 to mid 70' s and above. With this temp swing last night and chilly winds, it was 43 in house when I got home. Still coals but not enough to offset the drop. Didn't take Long to rake coals and get a fire back but my stove maxed out with an inside temperature of 73. It will maintain 73 but not increase. Stoked her good again tonight and see what tomorrow brings.
No Turkey smoking here but lots coming out the pipe. Insulation is the key. Now is a good time to cold smoke but not so much hot smoke

Its hard keeping it lit, but the major a challenge is cramming the whole thing into the corncob! Honestly, I can influence the weather, if I had not bought the turkey, it likely would have been balmy. Like I can make it rain on command, all I have to do is plan a fishing trip or go into the basement and look for the tent!

We bottomed out just on the plus side of zero at 1 above last night. It was tough and rough for my coworkers that have to work outside, we are a 24/7/365 operation. I stoked the woodstove for all it could take last night. When I got home there was still a nice bed of coals and the inside temp was 48. I had to clean out the ashes and coals to make room for more. She's firing hot right now and it won't be long before it's in the 70's. Stay safe and stay warm .
