Think of them as giant rats and it is easier. If you want I have a recipe for groundhog stew, you can use the veggies from your garden to make it.

Garlic.............  that's the secret to good groundhog stew........... lots o garlic!

This is the first week, with the exception of the week long monsoons we experienced in May and June that I have not had to cut my grass every third day.  I've spent more money, so far this year, buying gasoline for my mower than I have for my boat and that, just ain't right!

Neighbor and I did some brushhogging to reclaim about 3/4 of an acre from an overgrowth of redbrush, greenbriar, and other undesirable stuff growing out of the ground.  Most of the crap was on my side of his fence line that he has been wanting to redo.  Following the banging , clanging, clunking, grinding and, chucking debris at each other from our brush hogs we continued our fun by seeing who could get stuck mowing his overgrown pastures that have been like a marsh since spring.  To put a perfect end to a great day of fun, we drove (as in pounded) 5" by 8' post into the ground and re-strung barbed wire.

Anybody know if Calamine Lotion is good for bug bites, sun poisoning, sunburn, heat rash and, poison ivy?   Note: Toooo early to see the effects of poison ivy so I'm pretty sure the blisters are sun poisoning.  BUT, sure wish I could remember if I took my gloves off before I peed!

Btdt I just had a bout with poison oak myself... Was only on my calf but it turned in to one large bumpy blister. Ended up swelling my entire foot, to glands near my groin... Eye started swelling and to the doctors I went...steroids and some antibiotic... Sucked big time. Calamine should help soothe all of the above you mentioned... Good luck!

Hotter than a cob today. It is pretty dry. Boys got in 200 bales early, started bailing right when the dew went off. I brush hogged an acre or so after work of spots that I usually cannot do due to it being too wet. I only sunk in at one spot that needed 4*4 to pull out and it was not muddy just soft.

Nice job on the hey clint; that's still first cut for you? My first timr experimental corn is looking OK. 3 of the 12 rows are larger than the rest but I'm more than happy with the progress. Watering veggies morning and evening with this dryness

Yes we are behind, last of first cut. Corn will do that sometimes. Could be sun, water, fertilizer who knows. I have some that's taller too

Sorry to be so long getting back to ya Dime. Helped (more like hindered) the neighbor with more fence today and everything was fine til the sweat started rolling. Tends to bring out the effects of poisin ivy a bit sooner, If you ask me. I felt like the proverbial one handed wallpaper hanger!

Kind of difficult typing with one hand and applying Calmine while scratching with the other hand.

Dang that was hot one today for sure. Looks kike some rain may be heading my way tonight. Sure hope so, I'm gonna have to follow your lead with using the water hose if it doesn't.

That bout you had with the Oak must of been just horrible?

Also cut my grass today and I'm excited to say it"s been near a week since I last cut. Using less gas for the mower means more gas for the boat.(yes!!!)

Just waiting for a report from Marco who is headed to Pymie in the morning.

Clint..... I hear ya on those soft spots still hanging out in the fields and I gotta say; God Bless FWD! Problem is with four wheel drive; once your stuck, your stuck!(lol) Good luck with that hay, some fellas around these parts is still having some tuff time.

Yup it was a bad one to say the least. Thank god it was limited to just my calf. 2.5 weeks later and I still have itchy dry scabs!!! Good luck with yours!

We do whatever grows, the cows will eat it. Biggest issue with horse people is that they graze them all year on crap fields and then buy ''good'' hay. If a stomach is not used to the different grass content there could be issues. Making ''good'' hay is too expensive, especially for cows. Poison ivy, ground  blackberry it's all good. Never had one of our animals not eat in the winter or get sick so we must be doing something right.

I will be brutal out today and the natives are restless. Been alot of nonsense going on this summer. There will be some bigger riots in the cuse, sooner rather than later, it's about to boil over

I hear ya clint... I planted an area with north country mix that I was gonna let my pigs pasture in but haven't got around to putting a hot wire up yet :/ so instead I'm hand picking two to three times daily and feeding it to them on top of their twice a day grain feeding... I'm almost ready to get out with a sickle and hand cut the stuff down because it looks amazing... We just picked up 10 bales of a Timothy and alfalfa mix for two Nigerian dwarf goats we're getting this August... But next year I am definitely going to try to establish a decent hay plot... Hearing you say you use what ever grows gives me incentive to give it a shot. May get out and now down some field areas soon while its dry like you and btdt did

I rake my clippings from the yard and feed them to the pigs, hell I even feed them the weeds I pull from the garden. Their pigs. I have only found 2 things mine do not like, orange peels  and pineapple skin and even then they eat that.  I really would look into taking you hoe off if you do not use it slot. It will make that tractor alot more useful if you can find some cheap implements

Rained here for an hour-not a big rain, just a nice kinda easy rain --not much but was glad to have it in this drought.
It was the most I have seen in weeks.

Rained like that here for a few hours in the am. Just checked my corn and the ears seem a bit small for this time of year. Hope this wacky weather did not screw it up.

Around one PM it got real dark outside and thundered a bit then the rain came in torrents for about 1/2 hr,the city got a inch and a half and my local probably was the same.We needed the rain but it would have been better over a longer period. The local corn and other crops are looking good here.
Rich,I'm sure that west wind will be a positive so I'm looking forward to some big ones!

Wellll -the brief rain shower of yesterday is over and its in the 90s and dry again.
Started a strawberry patch from this years creepers a neighbor had let me harvest and it was doing well with frequent watering --till these past nasty mid 90s hot humid weeks- all dried out.
A couple MAY make it but a couple isn't a patch.

Hahhh! If only had 200k to buy it :/

The Nigerian dwarfs actually get to be 60-70 pounds, and two of my hogs are well over 100 # so petting at your own discretion :)
On the the other hand my turkeys, ducks, cocks and hens would probably go over well in that neck of the woods if you know what I mean ;)

Clint I do use the how often enough but I would have no problem running some equipment off the back at times... The hogs will eat just about anything. We give them grain twice daily but the grass as well along with natural table scraps. Very anxious to taste the meat this year compared to last as we did not feed them grass at all last year

good 2-3hr soaking here this morning.. now mostly humid..
garden is happy again as I haven't watered in long time, kinda gave up.
out in salmon land,
looked like strong front moved through last night and cleared today with a west blow and small craft advisory.
the advisories are becoming more frequent now but rain has been in spurts.. What's the locals say ?

It was close last week inshore but out 200-400 fow the thermocline was still near 100' down .
Underground is showing NNW winds mostly all week switching SSE-by friday then SW near Sunday .
It won't be long and the lines will be tight

It's a beautiful day in Pennsylvania with the OAT riding at 47.5 F. just past 6:00 am here in my little piece of Penn's Woods.

Just sitting here; pondering over a cup of coffee, what I should do today?

I think I'll begin by wishing all-ya-all a good day!

Thanks dimebrite glad you enjoyed the morning shot.

Hoping all-ya-all had a good day and wishing yinz a better one tomorrow followed by a great weekend!

That, they are Dimebrite. We've been noticing how much darker the trees are getting and seeing small patches of red and orange on some maple trees.

Not seeing any golden rod or sumac doing it's thing quite yet. (good)

Seems more and more crickets are singing during the day. (bad). Unless a guy uses them for fishbait.(lol)

We're the same color wise... Part to do with how dry its been but also had some chilky nights for a while. Both my spring creeks are dry as can be here in the lake region... Just a little further east though spring ditches still have trickle... Which is good. Any salmon that have made it up river will rely on these spring upwelks for survival. Time to slap some metal on my chicken coop :/
