Very sad, why do they always have to involve innocent people. Go out into the woods and do your "own" thing.........

Sad day indeed. I was in the area of Danbury/Brookfield this morning and I now know why the police activity was so high. My thoughts and prayers are with the families who lost loved ones from this unspeakable tragedy. My thoughts also turn to the first responders, the police, fire and medical technicians who responded to this horrific scene. Hard days are to come. My experience in law enforcement tells me that some may never recover.

A sad day indeed -cant imagine whats in the minds of some people--to go to that kind of place and do those kind of things is insane. Nuts with guns are gonna cost every one of us who hunts or shoots -afterwards there will still be nuts with guns. But its eventually gonna be that way- IMHO.

The guy was mentally disturbed.. he was not a normal guy according to media. Sick people kill people, has nothing to do with the right to bare arms. There are many powerful men in control who can be labeled sick and responsible for cold blooded murder.. Syrian president is just one example of a hideous murdering individual , responsible for murdering tens of thousands of innocent lives. This was a tragedy and turns our stomachs but it has nothing to do with gun control, just a real wackjob.

Well its been a bit and I feel more comphy in letting go on the subject- I live in Ct and our papers cover this nasty disgusting incident daily in several pages. Being liberal Ct this coverage is generally anti gun stuff. As I see it a Mother who was reportedly a 'survivalist' gathered many firearms including the ones her son did his deplorable deed with. She taught her kids to shoot and when she was considering having one sent to an institution because of his -issues- she neglected to lock up the guns. He killed her first. The antis were demonstrating in front of the White House in the first hours of reporting and the NRA kept silent for several days' out of respect'. No one seemed to notice the Chinese guy who stabbed 22 kids in a Chinese school last week - that doesnt fit the anti gun agenda. Nra came out with their 'cop in every school in America thing and the antis went nuts--so did I. Ya gotta remember being a Cop is a job with vacations -training time and sick time and a regular work week--for a City with 13 schools I figure we would need bout 20 to 25 new cops to accomplish this-a solid one Mil plus tax increase. Remember most schools have evening activities in addition to the day thing.=two shifts per school. Multiply that across the country on a knee jerk reaction. One DC representative from Ct said something in the paper about- Nra saying the dumbest thing he had EVER heard ( this from a DC rep) just what we need he said- more guns in the schools. He is clearly so Anti he cant see the diff between a Cop and a crook. He will be voting on any new Fedeeral regulations in the Senate.- Then the Pres put the well known anti gun Vice- Pres in charge of his comittee to look into probable Federal actions. No wonder Guns and Ammo are flying off the shelves. Bottom line- folks with agendas are using this horrific incident to pursue their objectives with little true regard for the incident itself. It showed with their immediate responses with only lip service to those who needed silence for a while while they grieve. BTW- Cant wait for fat people to start blaming their spoons. ( me included) Sorry bout the rant but I'm gonna puke----

RG,my thought on this is that I'm in favor of curbing the sale of assault weapons and other weapons that hold LARGE magazines. These weapons have no purpose other than to kill as many as fast as you can,so ban them. However, handguns and sporting weapons should not be banned.I have several shotguns,a couple rifles and a muzzle loader.Even though I don't hunt anymore I will keep them handy "IN CASE".My wife wants to buy a handgun,I told her lets get you used to the shotguns and if you don't hit the SOB you'll scare him to death LOL. This person that committed this horrible deed was a troubled youth that apparently spent a lot of time playing killing games on his puter, think that might have something to do with it?Ban the **** killing games! Also, what was his mother thinking keeping these weapons in her home when she knew she had a troubled son living with her?Unbelievable! The NRA's solution is really stupid, let them pay for the manpower.

Couldn't agree more, Jack. I wish moderate voices like yours would be heard. Too logical to have political shock value. My continued prayers for the families that won't see their child's face light up on Christmas morning. Have a wonderful trip west, Jack. Merry Christmas to you and yours. Charlie

Looking forward to the trip Charlie for many reasons.First and foremost is to see my granddaughter, daughter and son in law for the holidays.Erin is right in that age bracket as those poor kids in Ct........no words for what I feel. Second is that I will wet a line again,it's been too long. The tribs out there finally got some high water events so the fish are spread top to bottom, hopefully the ice and slush is not too bad so I can get a line to them. And guess what?I'm taking my noodle rod and I'll fish bait if I have to. Here's a thought for you and Rich.Ohio has a spring run steelhead(Manistee) and the fishing can be real good in late March, early April or a little later. There is some nice water out there and if conditions are right you might want to join me for some steel in the spring.License is very reasonable,I think a 7 day is $20 and season is $40.Give it some thought. Also,Merry Christmas to you and Nancy and everyone out there.

Agree with ya Jack- Not many hunt more than myself and all I have used for years is single shot guns- just a personal preference. Good move with the shotgun too. Used to tell folks -on the job- the same thing. Rack that pump and most bad guys will hit the road -lol. No one can tell me that a 15/30 shot clip is needed for Hunting or target shooting. Might try but this old man aint buyin into it. NRA woulda done itself well to read the Tea leaves and bend a bit there, now they look silly. The 'assault gun' law is a sure thing and likely far expanded from the last one IMHO. Only 'issue' is that the stats showed it did no good whatsoever the last time- just a knee jerk. Wont make a diff though -the antis will jump on anything. IMHO the real federal 'biggie' will be the tax increases on ammo, guns of all kinds and other fees and paperwork. All those nutcases and drug dealers are sure to comply. Hey- food for thought- Somebody suggested each school find one employee with a military background and/or willing to go through Police handgun training and the state permit process too- When that other idiot shot up the movie theater showing the Batman show he picked about the ONLY theater in town that had a 'no guns allowed' sign posted. These guys arent THAT stupid- they pick places they know will be SAFE for them.

Above a 10 round clip is illegal in most states. It is legal to own a pre ban clip of up to 30 rounds if it was made before 94. Issue is that you can buy "repair" kits and with a little work can assemble your own clips, although it would be illegal to own. Again drug dealers, bad guys and unstable personalities would not care about this.

Jack, thanks for the heads up on Ohio. Nancy and I usually take a vacation at the beginning of April and we've been going out to Calif. at that time for the past 5 years or so. Decided not to this year- plane fare etc. is getting a bit much. I was thinking this morning about a Pa. venture in the spring to see new waters. We'll see what that RJ fellow is up to then. Ice'll be gone.... I remember sitting on some rocks in the middle of the river and you telling me how smart your Granddaughter is. As much as you love fishing, that's dwarfed by what I heard in your voice. Enjoy your time with her.

This is how its gonna be-- In todays paper two Ct State Reps were quoted as being very surprised that .223 Bushmasters were being sold in Ct stores. They said they thought this kind of weapon was banned in the 1993 Assault Rifle ban they had passed . WHERE HAVE THEY BEEN-- those and similar guns are commonly advertised in the Sunday colorful ads by various big box outdoor stores-and have been right along. The knee jerk laws were passed and Antis were apparently satisfied. They simply moved on and none have even read a Sunday paper for the past 11 years. Knee jerk laws with a govt that doesnt care so long as the Antis are satisfied are in our future. Especially in States the Antis are a loud persuasive lobby. Not to mention whatever the Fed does. I fear its gonna get weird--even will go so far as to predict some elected folks going to the Supreme Court or Congress trying to limit or abolish the 2nd Amendment altogether.

RG-It's clear that these Reps aren't familiar with the laws and that many of the AR platform rifles are built in CT. My favorite CT store, other than Cabela's, is Hoffman's. I don't think you can have a serious discussion about the 2nd Amendment without taking a hard look at the 1st. Violent video games have played a significant role in conditioning our kids toward aberrant behavior. Take them fishing. Teach them catch and release and perhaps they will come away with a greater respect for life.

ive tried my best to shy away from this thread but cant restrain anymore... it sickens me that this incident happened. and i have nothing but the utmost sorrow for the victinms families and anyone /everyone else that had or has any connection to the incident or families... what has really sickened me greatly is the press and media that has been shoved down our throats regarding the matter. the fact that i have to explain to my five year old how and why it happened. the talk shows that have discussed the matter and had open phone lines... one in particular had a person call up who admitted to being mentally ill and was scared that they could be capable of doing something like this... disgusting... pure BS... almost promotion and seed planting for another unstable individual to step up to the plate and commit an act themselves. i bare arms and own guns... but will not even comment or argue about what the government will do or what i think if they decide to take that right away from me. parents world wide were devestated over this act; it just seemed inappropriate to take the press of the matter as far as they did and still are... this world (not just this country) has been a blood bath since history can even remember and many have innocently lost their lives. this incident is quite tragic and sickening... video games could be held somewhat ;liable, but for god sakes, what about the news?????? or the plain old tv with all of these cop and detective shows... it's endless... you can go on forever with reasons and things to blame... as tuna said, hug your friends family and strangers... and yes gerry, take a kid fishing.... sorry for the rant guys, and by no mkeans am i refuting or pointing my rant at anyone in particular... just venting a little bit here. i will leave you guys with this Attachments are not available: Download requirements not met

Andrew, Thank You for expressing your thought and empathy..This thread was not about weapons or illness.. It's about what we as adults are doing in this society.. Yes Adults.. We are the teachers of our children.. In my time of growing I learned what is right and wrong.. No laws ever made can replace what I always knew.. Sure I chose some very wrong paths at times but instilled in me I ALWAYS knew that harming another human being was wrong.. We again as adults with children bring these small wonders into this world, and it seems more then ever it's becoming a very harsh place.. It is up to each and everyone to try and make this a better place then it has been for our youth.. Teach them the good things this place has to offer, teach them how to cope with struggles and teach them how to coexist with fellow man and nature.. The saying Love and compassion holds true.. If we all take time out of our everyday lives to just shake a strangers hand, say hello to a neighbor and share our virtues, wisdom and faults with the youth of today then maybe we stand a chance at success. This and many tragedy like come from our (adults) failures.. Very Sorry to bring this topic to such disarray and will not comment any further.. Peace & Tuna P.S. Charlie, I don't think the french will be making cement in Ravena much longer. My trips will become much shorter and the quarry will be more a means of survival then sport..

DB could not agree more. Too much media coverage. HT couldn't agree more. Parents in alot of instances are not respected by their children and children do not respect adults in general. Parents want to be their kids friends and not be the ones who discipline and teach. Kid feel at a very young age that they are on an equal playing field or better with adults.

Wonderful pic, Andrew. Have a blessed Christmas with your family. You're right, Clint. Respecting your parents, elders and authority goes a long way towards creating stability and peace. It's an integral part of every major religion. In this season, that should count for something. RJ, I've no problem helping you fill a pail, bro. , long as a few flop towards my frying pan. PM sent. My stuff's ready to go.

WTF is this!...........VOLUNTEER firefighters are shot outside of Rochester NY and the SOB that did it set a trap so he would have targets to shoot at.The SOB is dead but that was too good for him as he should have been lowered into the fire that he set and roasted to hell!....Sorry but that is how I feel! What is this leading to?

Pa that was about 10 minutes from my house. I've been at work all day so just had a few minutes during lunch to see the news. Didn't hear the gunman was dead. The local news seems to be being much more carefull with giving info than the "news" chnnels. No word on the weapon. The trauma center spokesperson said the bullet they dug out of one of the injured was to deformed for them to say what it might have come from. Could have been a 22 but I doubt it since both injured were shot in the chest so it would appear he was just shooting at center mass and killed 2.

Latest news conference says there was a brief firefight and he shot himself in the head. He served time for killing his grandmother so as a felon could not legally posses a firearm. As they say criminals don't follow the law. They haven't been able to locate his sister who lives in one of the homes that burned.

Yep,he beat his granny to death with a hammer and then our judicial system releases him after a short term 'cause he was a good boy in prison?I fear his sister may be dead somewhere also.If they would execute all murderers instead of releasing them a lot of future murders would be avoided.I'm all for death in 30 days if there is no doubt they are guilty, what we have now is BS!

Tough one thee Jack. I would have a hard time dealing if I found out I ha put an innocent person to death so while I believe in the death penalty due process has to be followed to a certainty. 18 years for killing granny. I thought I heard them say it was max for whatever he was convicted. Might have been a few red flags showing on this guy.

I said no doubt,if he beat his granny with a hammer there probably was no doubt.Locally we had a guy stab four people to death that previously cut someones throat and he was released to murder again. As far as I'm concerned it's one strike and you're done for murder.Just saying!
