12/1/12
Well here is the report and is is not all that good. Altmar and Pulaski have way more snow than me, but it is melting. I went to the LFZ in hopes of a spot and was prepared to move on if none. I was able to get a decent spot, but it was a bit crowded. I fished from 9 till 130. Very few fish on today with multiple players reporting no takes at all and a few more reporting only 1 or 2. There were sporadic fish on all morning but it was not steady and listening in I heard several times "AWWW $h1t it's foul hooked". What is was was COLD and WINDY. The place started to clear out at around 11:00 due to the poor bite and there was room on either side. After it cleared out I worked the whole wall and managed on good hook up but after a few head shakes it was gone. The fish that were taken were starting to winter up with very few jumps and alot taking it and just sitting there until they were started to be pulled off the lower 1/3 of the one. Except for Altmar not alot of pressure. RG I would say you may be OK after tomorrows rain of it comes down hard as far as plowing, but if you are going up tonight you might want to call. I have every Thursday and Friday off until Christmas so if it stays half way decent as far as temps I will get some more in. Most ponds had a bit of ice so not long until that happens.

Yup, some forecasts saying a possible 1/2 inch tomorrow night and another possible 1/2 inch on tuesday... im interested to see whats gonna happen. I know i courageously said something a week ago about 2500 cfs; probably not gonna get that but we gotta get something out of it...cant wait to see!

At least you had a hook-up , Clint. Without significant raises in water level,it's fishing over the same fish that've been there and seen it all. I doubt there's many that haven't been hooked multiple times. If the water goes up this week, it may become a new ball game. Plenty of reports of bright fish down river. Thanks for the report. I'm hoping for higher water by the end of the week. Unfortunately, I only know a few spots to fish in 2500, so I hope it stays down around 1,000. Sorry, Dime we're at cross-wishes.... Charlie

Charlie, i dont prefer 2500 over 1000... but i prefer to see the water go higher than my likings and then steadily come down to a stable flow preferably around 1000-1500... it cleans the river of people, debris and spreads the fish out, also bringing fresh fish in.... once it stabilizes at a steady flow for a couple days its usually my favorite time to fish... it never seems to happen to often in the past few years though....

I know i bravely said i didn't think it would go to 2500cfs last week. i can't wait to see what happens between now and wed. it doesn't look like brookfield is too concerned with the backed up water busting their dam since they are still releasing 325 cfs. and pville gaude has only gone to 466 from the 455 its been the last few days. myselfself i'm hoping for a release of 500 to keep the lower river filling with fresh dimers.

Am kinda in Charlies corner- dont really like water much over 1000-at 2500 I lurk around the river and fish very little. (sorry Andy) Agree completley on the couple of days to stabelize and then BITE. Think there will be little releases if any due to low levels and we will mostly be experiencing local runoffs. Of course they may want to finally make some Juice and some $$$ and do some turbine related releases. Kinda think any increases will help the fresh fishes move up and make the fishing better. 600 to 800 or so always seems (to me) to be just fine for the fish to get excited.

Yup bob, i was quite courageous spitting out the 2500 a week and a half before the actual event... but remeber there were question marks behind it and also we still have two and a half days to go til wednesday Since this morning a trib to the north has quadrupled in flow, the salmon is now running over 500... a possible 3/4 inch on tuesday... still interested to see...with the natural tribs swelling up makes one wonder the reservoir must be filling up pretty good...i guess time will tell at this point

well ya gots ta factor in the snow on the tug melting slower cause it just does in the woods even in winter and as of now they are still only releasing 335 from the dam so i don't think it id lapping at the overflow yet. 625 in pville so the is up 70cfs or so from where it was before the snow event started. Unless the rain hits there in a 1 hour downpour i'm thinking more like 1500-1800. lets split the difference and boldy call for 2150 as a forcast team. now if you would make it stay under 1000 thru tues 2 pm i would appreciate it or i going to go collecting some brown eggs instead of catching the last of the seriously hot chrome of the season.

2bee... I would say keep a close eye on the flow charts but I know you already do... the trib to the north now flowing 10 * what it was 1 day ago...tug is melting off hard... you might just make it with your Tuesday trip though... I think it's going to be a blowout Lake day Tuesday... mid sixty's thunderstorms and accumulate ing rain into Tuesday night.... just what we need... for me this the perfect setup for my favorite time of year... almost like an early Christmas present

well ho ho ho and a happy new year to you! here's hoping you get what you're hoping for and the time to enjoy it. i don't watch the gauges for the other tribs since i haven't fished them since the 80s when they crowded up,back then mostly with the worst of the snaggers and lifters and they have no direct effect on the sr. clint you gonna take a ride near the res any time in the near future. if so a detour over there for a pic would be interesting to see how full it really is at this point. not worth wasting precious time to do but if you were nearby anyway.

TB don't know when I will make it up, but I put the word out to a few friends that live up that way to snap me a pic if they go by. I will try to get out Thursday if the water is not too high. I only know a few spots to fish above 1k

it looks like it peaked out at pville a little over 650 and fell back just a tad. unless they breach the dam 2500 seems out of the question. 650 on the other hand is extremely fishable. i only hope some pods of quicksilver are making their way thru my slots tomorrow morning. that is the trouble with fishing for freshies. they are either moving thru or not but you rarely have a hole full of the same fish day after day like upriver.

it wasn't my day. either they had already moved thru the water i chose to start at, they hadn't gotten up there yet or they just didn't like what i was offering. fished below laski from 7 til 9:15 without a hint of a fish. when i fished the upper most pocket i could see to other guys but never saw them hooked uo either. of course i could easily have missed any action they had. moved up to altmar since i wanted to pick up a few things from malinda anyways. fished below the bridge in good water and blanked totally. 5 others in sight, not counting the dudes with no waders, and the only thing i saw was a 4ish pound winter dark male taken by a bottom bouncer using eggs. rolled for home around noon stopping to check on tribs. no water and nothing but el moldos. carphd i should have taken you up on the boat ride you offered.at least i could have had conversation with an old friend but i greedily wanted the last of the hotties for the year. turned out to be my bad on all fronts. must say the river was extremely fishable and lightly fished. the only place that looked crowded was the lfz looking up from the bridge and that was maybe 10 or 12 people.

Hope things look up for Thursday for me. At least the weather is going to be good (cold but no rain). My plan is much like yours was today Below town and then either the LFZ or a walk from the bridge up to the schoolhouse or something. Either way some exercise and casting practice.
