11/23/12 Drowned rat and battle scarred

I was drowned and the fish was scarred.    Started at pineville this AM and got nothing for 2 hours.   Went to the LFZ.  I was waiting for a call from Charlie and  my phone rang.   Tried to answer in mid drift and that was a mistake.   Of course fish on.   Lost the call, lost the fish and almost lost the phone.   A friend of mine showed up and we each got a quick hook up.  I landed mine.

It was battle scarred, eye was wrecked up and a huge scar in it's head.  It eye was dangling out and all red.

Started to pour and that's when Charlie showed up.   Fished in the rain for a few hours.  Charlie lost a nice one.   I got this one to the bank.   If you look closely you can see Charlie down the wall.  I took a close call stepping off my rock and ended up in the water on my bottom, luckily I only got my sleeve wet.     I also netted a guys fish and he was so thankful he gave me a fly just like the one he caught his on.
2/4 today.  Overall it was VERY slow all around as the day got later.   fished till about 2:30 and as soon as we got to the car the rain had almost stopped.   Good to meet Charlie  on the water and fish even if it was for a little bit.  Went to Melinda's after and all the folks in there said it was tough.   Probably done until next weekend.   After next week I have Thursday and Friday off for 3 weeks until Christmas.

Great to see you, Clint. My day was 0-4 and zero for 8 on sleep. I could barely stand, let alone wade. I had the misfortune of hooking good fish that were way too much for my  semi-conscious abilities.  River wasn't overly crowded, starting to thin a little.  My original plan was to take a hike mid-river,  lack of sleep changed that. I started by walking into N. side of the Upper.  Not much happening up there, and not many people. I saw a few landed, but lots of skunks for the morning. I had some long battles and heartbreaks.  I'll be up for one of those th.-fri Clint.  Looking forward to seeing those new stone flies!

fichy once or twice a year i have one of those no sleep trips.
catch my toe on every rock higher than an inch.
usually i never even get the hook into them.
either a quick headshake and gone or nothing at all after nearly losing my rod to the take.

Glad to see the great reports, Clint!  Thanks for keeping them up for those of us living too far away to be on that water as much as you can be, and it seems you are getting pretty good at this fly stuff to be a new learner!  You graduate to old learner eventually anyway, but you are cutting the curve!

Lucky, I was thinking the same thing. Clint has turned the corner on the learning curve and it shows in hook-ups and his good report writing. We can only hope we encouraged  a little. He sure is paying us back with the reports!

Lucky, I think I am getting better, but still got a ways to go.   I still tend to head back to the LFZ where the picken is a bit easier.   Slowly learning the water and how to read it  a bit better .  So like you say  I got to keep on  keepin on.
