If it's brown it's not down, yet!!!!

Tonight, right at dusk, passed on a spike for the second time in the last month.   Had him broadside at twenty five yards, wasn't sure if it was a doe or spike.  As he walked under my stand I could see his devils horns.  He stopped ten yards away presenting another broadside but I let him walk.  I hope I'm rewarded for my patience but in the past when I have chosen not to take the shot the deer Gods have dumped on me.  Oh well.......

It won't be the first time I've had tag soup.  However, I'm the confident type and I have no doubt that I'll score.  To be continued......

I know I'm bad, but not that bad.  Climb too high to fall asleep (b/w 25 & 30 feet).

Had to work for them but I took a small buck on Sunday and a nice doe Tuesday morning.  I still have doe tags to fill but really don't need to as two in the freezer is enough.

    Good Job !!!
My little 30 acre or so spot has dried up and blown away-- found my first rub  and scrape in 3 days of hunting today- sat on them this PM and had one dog walker after another come by till dark.
NO Turkey or Deer scratching - second year with no mast crop here whatsoever. Game has mostly gone on to better places.
Used to have just bout 2,000 acres of prime habitat in several locations here in Ct crawling with deer- now left with a spot I used to walk through BEFORE loading up when going to where the deer were- lol. The other spots  are all factories and houses.
Was great while it lasted though.

HT- Sounds like your crew is having a banner year.  Must say this is the most deer that I have seen on my buddies farm in a number years.  That goes for turkey as well.  Lots of longbeards should make for a promising Spring 2013 hunt.

My yesterday hunt once again took me on 767 acre play ground at the top of the Mountain.. All shaded area..

I left the phone away and used only to communicate with my fellow hunter..
Sat in a tree, walked up hills, sat in brush, walked down hills, pushed a swamp, and finally walked in the rain... Man I covered 5 miles of woods and did not see a single deer, nor person as we never do.
My partner (bro-in-law) seen them all.. 14 in total and the Big One again.. I think he was afraid to butcher another one tomorrow, lol .. No shots fired nor any heard.. The woods were Quiet yesterday..
So looks like I won't be fishing but hunting again next week..
    Hope for snow :)

Ya gotta love central NY when that lake effect turns on to bring a little (sometimes a lot) of snow each day.  It certainly makes hunting & tracking a whole lot easier.

    HT-

Work sucks, but not as bad as no work.  As RG says, if you can still get out for the hunting and fishing, and pay the bills, keep on keepin' on!

Hope you fille the freezer  before the first good ice!

I'll be filling my freezer, but not with a deer.  We are sending 2 of our cows out next week.

Thought my spot was drying up with a second year of no mast crop after the Skipper on the first day but noticed an old trail with some new rut sign a day or so ago- Took a nice 6 point this evening- no base tines and thought I was shooting at an 8-who cares- VERY large bodied critter. Long dark drag.
NOW- whats that about Steel ???
Hey- good luck on the snow fellas- think its the most fun when the tracks are there and ya can see in the woods better- love it- cant wait for muzzel season in a few weeks.

well in 2 more full days hunting the Great Woods some brown did go down but once again no shots fired by me.. My good friend was able to tag out with a very nice doe today.. I'm really pleased as he hunted many years without firing a shot and 3 seasons ago I told him he will get deer here.. In his first year he seen more deer then all previous years combined.. Second year he shot and missed and 2012 he tagged out, buck & doe..

So what has become of my hunting troubles of a skunk so far ??
LOTS of mountain hardwoods and NO pressure.. The sign is there and so are the deer.. More die of old age then get shot on that property thats for sure.
They know we are in the woods, & they know there are plenty of places to just lye and wait for dark..
    The snow never really happened.
The 3" that was up at our 1800' elevation all melted away later afternoon yesterday.
Not much moving during the day and without driving them it becomes a stalk and hunt game with them wiser then me..
Pulling 3 (others were not from there) good eater deer off the property is by no means a skunk to me.. I had a blast !!

Still busy as all heck and need to cut the hanger tomorrow evening then todays harvest hopefully Thurs (weather depending )..
Not sure if I'll just bag the season or give it another 2 days next weekend.
No worries however as I have gotten proceeds from every deer processed..:) Nice collection in my freezer for sure..

Great reports on the fishing front and good luck to all that venture out..
I need ICE  !! Looks like at least another 2 weeks for me.
For now it's shower time and fall asleep to football..

    Peace & Tuna

Nice hunting report HT,  I only went out twice, saw a few no horns.   We just butchered 2 cows this AM before the rain and got them sent out.   Freezer will be FULL in a few weeks.

There was a good skim on stuff yesterday here, but most is melting off fast.   Going to start looking at my ice stuff this weekend.   It aint much , but it will get the job done.   I think Santy Clause got me a new auger  so I don't have to borrow my buddies.

HT, nice job.  Thinking of making the trip back to Otsego County for the last day or two of rifle and the first part of next week for muzzleloader.
