Been having trouble posting on a Kindle Fire so been mostly lurking.Found out all is fine on main puter. Ended up making four trips for salmon. Even got my son his first one. Only my third year but I'm having much more success. Thanks in large part to all you guys. Saw many atrocities this year with the low water but was able to catch them the "right"way on all trips. Even had a guy ask me for advise.Poor misguided soul. Looking forward to winter trips. Made up my mind that the fly rod will be used for Steel. If I leave the spin rig home I have no choice. Started to try to tie flies with material Tuna gave me at Dime's place. Thanks again,Rich. Went to some small water, not around SR, and caught many there also. The fight was not as fun as most stayed in the pool/run they were holding in. I think they were also tired from the tough upstream run in low water.Used flies on the spin rig as they seemed very shy of egg imitations. Got at least one legit agression strike. Stayed away from Redds and pairs as you have taught me.My SR fishing was above Pineville and always found a place with fish and relative solitude. Clint, thanks for your many reports.A local eye on the situation is a great help. OK, have an 8wt Kunan my friend gave me.He said it is a little "soft" for his liking. Bought an OkumaSLV reel(price was right for a beginner). It has a WF 8wt floating line. Some of you guys overload on line.Should I and why? Heard if you want the rod to act different then get a different rod. Granted this was from a fly shop in Roscoe. Also what about leader? Tie my own or buy tapered? My buddy also says I should get a sink tip. Confused and need help. Starting from scratch so please dumb it down. Thanks in advance. Charlie-HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Looking forward to crossing lines, I mean paths with some of you in the coming months. I will be fishing from SR to Rochester until the smaller water ices then it's all SR. Saw a couple of Browns in my travels but they were freaking out in the tight quarters.Did not see any Steel in the other waters. Hoping rise in water levels changes that. Peace to all and good luck with storm. Mostly wind in Orange County NY so far.Got pix from friends at the shore ,sucks when ocean meets the bay.I'm rambling again, later.
