Polaroid Fishing Glasses
I'm looking for a good pair of Polaroid fishing glasses. I would like to spend less than $50.00. Any suggestions?

I think you mean polarized. I would go to a sporting goods store and try some on. I've probably purchased a dozen different pair, all under 50 in the last 10 years, I like wire frames and spring temples for all day comfort.

LOL @ Polaroid. Thats too good not to chuckle at, but I can see how you might get that word confused. You are in fact looking for polarized glasses. You can get them in cheap or expensive versions. My Ray-Ban's are polarized, but I didnt buy them for fishing, they just so happen to be exactly what I need for fishing. I've seen them at Walmart in the fishing aisle.. some of them looked pretty nice too. I've also seen them at pretty much every sports store in the fishing section. I never go fishing without mine!

Pappy, I do a lot of fishing and my glasses really take a beating. Every time a fish splashes a little water on the lens or it rains, or you get a finger smudge, you have to clean the lenses. Every time you clean the lenses, the polarized coating is weakened. It will eventually rub off. This renders the glasses useless. Therefore, I buy cheap ones. They work just as well as the more expensive ones and are just as comfortable. I buy mine at Walmart in the Sporting Goods department. They are made by Renegade and cost $5. There are a bunch of different styles to choose from. I always get the amber lenses though. They seem to be the best. Now Renegade makes more expensive glasses too, and so does Strike King, but I don't see the sense is spending more money. I'll wear out 2 pairs a year. I keep a pair in the vehicle at all times, a pair in my fishing box, and a pair in my fishing vest. Nothing ruins a fishing trip like forgetting your shades. They really are that important to me. They make all the difference in the world. I also have a pair with bright yellow lenses (like shooting glasses) that are polarized. These are wonderful for early morning or evening when there is little available light. They are also wonderful for night driving because they reduce the glare of oncoming headlights and help you see better at night. I hope this helps.

The process of making polarized glasses were patented by the POLAROID company in 1939. Hence the name.

I bought a pair of camo ones at Gander MTN. They were like $16. Seem like they work realy well. I never believed in them before I tried them. Now I wouldn't go without them. I am not a big sunglass person. All of them are kinda uncomfortable to me but thats just me. I have even had on Maui Jims and they were the most comfortable but still find any glasses slightly bothersome. Buy the cheap ones cause when they fall off your head which they will, then you aren't dropping $150 Oakleys.

I wear glasses, so finding a pair that didn't make me look ridiculous and was comfortable was difficult. Never had luck with clip-ons either. Found a nice pair put out by Cocoons. Very nice for around $50. Variety of styles and tints.

I like the ones with the magnifier ( bifocal) in the lense. It helps alot when your eyes need some help. Walmart has them $20. They work nice.

Thanks for the feedback. I had an older pair of polarized sunglasses that served me well for over 20 years. They were polarized and had glass lenses. Although they were a little heavy, they did an excellent job of cutting the glare on the water while fishing. Last year the frames broke and could not be repaired. I have tried 3 different pairs of sunglasses ranging in price from $15 to $45 and none cut the glare as well as the old ones. I was hoping someone else had a pair they were happy with.

X2 on the Smith Optics. You can find polycarb ones on sale just over $50 or they have a less pricey line, Suncloud, that seems decent.

I usually wear Costa Del Mars but if you want to stay inexpensive Flying Fisherman makes great polarized sunglasses. At about $20 a pair losing or scratching them is relatively painless. I keep a couple pairs around for kayaking. BassPro and some Walmarts carry them. Not sure about Gander Mountain.

Most of the lower priced glasses are pretty similar in quality. Just find a pair that's comfortable. If you do a decent amount of fishing and are in the position to buy a better pair of glasses like the Costa Del Mars mentioned (especially with glass rather than plastic lenses), I think you'll be glad you upgraded.
