Tomhannock Opener 1/1

Weather permitting, I'll be out on the northeastern end to see if the ice is safe enough to setup a few tipups. Anybody wants to join me, look for a silver Taurus and follow the sled tracks. (you need a permit)  I'm not getting shnozzled on New Years Eve so Ill be out pretty early. Unless we get a cold snap real soon, theres probably not a whole lot of ice but if there's over four inches I'm there.

I saw the silver Taurus parked off Paradise Point and thought it might be you. About a dozen guys fishing Mayfield Lake, none on the big lake.

I drive past it everyday and since the heavy rain it doesn't look to promising. Be very careful, I will drive around tomorrow to see if anyone is out, if you hear a blue blazer beepin you it was probably me. GOOD LUCK!!

I am sure it is cold outside upstate cause it was hovering in the 20s down here allday. Last night was freezing cold and teens here early morning! I suppose these few days of sub-zero will freeze the already primed hardwater even with a layer of snow ontop. I shall soon find out When I roll upstate towards middletown ny.. I am pressed for time this weekend..cost of fuel is also a much weighted factor but my friend has to work too and so I will try closer to home I have a few places for jigging around here, especially first ice on the bigger ponds!

minus 6 degrees as I was driving home last night Back. Certainly locked up some more lakes. I checked the ice at Tomhannock today. 6 inches all over. Was also surprised that there was only a dusting of snow on the lake. No insulation . I'll be there tomorrow and report.

Hopefully, I can get this done and get up in my catskill region for some perch next week a couple days. Again wish you luck and all the others too!

Had a decent morning out on 'hannock. Brought home a few nice perch, and sent a 22" pickerel back down the hole. I'll be out there tomorrow as well, if anyone wants to join in.

hook no eye? glad you caught soe tasty perch! picks are boney and the bone patties i tried and rather go with the perch myself :) I wonder if you guys eat the bigger pike up there? they must be boney and likely made into patties too? Couldn't make it ice fishing this weekend and have a change of plans...hoping to do some saltwater, my first of this seasons togging off manasquan nj monday/tues. weather permitting.

Another day a 'hannock. I was on the small side of the lake both times Back. Not sure if there are many 'eyes there. I did muster up a few more jumbos for the freezer. All from tip ups. Couldn't get a thing off the short stick.

I knew it was going to puddle up during the day, so I tried to map out the safest route to get off. It did get a little hairy at a few spots. Warm weather coming. Hopefully it won't last long.

Hook I'm going to try Lonely monday... be there around 9am if youre interested.  I went out on Hannock friday but only had 4 inches of slush ice where i was. Igpt spooked and left.  Thanks a bunch Rensselaer cty plowers for not plowing out any of the spaces around the reservoir.... give us PAYING permit holders a break will ya?

    YanK:

How did you make out on Lake Lonely today??  I fished Saratoga Lake by the marina and ended up with three small perch and no hits on my tip-ups.  Met up with a new guy from Granville who was very nice.  I may try Lake Lonely tomorrow if the rain holds off.  At least at Lake Lonely you get a flag once in a while and there are plenty of perch to jig up.
I just hate the long walk into the lake, but will give a try on Tuesday morning.

Ed I fished Lonely from 10am til 1pm....   had 5 flags but only 1 nice LMB to show for it.  Three times I had something (probably a northern) take a big run and break me off.  The two tipups that didnt have steel leaders got all the pike hits, and i paid for it. Oh well.  Tried to jig on the side by the houses, no luck at all.  Ice was slippery and covered with water over most of it by the time I left. Also twisted my knee to boot. Bring your good galoshes!

    Yank:

Fished Lake Lonely off point (Hook's favorite spot) and near end of trail leading into lake.  Got one small perch and two bluegills.  Nothing on tip-ups using large suckers and medium shinners.  Did see one guy catch a 26" northern and some crappies, but really a slow day.  Great day to work on the sun tan!
Looks like lousy weather for the next few days and not sure how much longer the ice will hold up with these warm temperatures.

well the park pond down here is all open water, that was fast! can't imagine there is much safe ice up by you guys especially with warm forecasts. Just too many in a row above normal temps these days. reminds me of last year and the year before that and the one before that and so on.. it must be global whateva!
