What to bring

It has been so long and I always used spinning gear.. I rather try flyfishing later in the fall but know it is usuakky freezing weather. I will likely bring both outfits but wondering how the pros go about it? I imagine spin fish when it is freezing temps and than try the fly pole when temps are above freeze? tia

Snobs like me always fly fish....  Actually you hit it about right, Sk.  Guide freeze up is a pain in the azzz. I deal with it by using silicone grease and roll casting.  Spinning is MUCH easier in the cold. I do like the fly rod and the challenge, but I'd never suggest that anyone be as stupid as I am.  You can use  flies on the spinning rod.
Lots of guys that are good flyfishers pick up the spinning gear in the cold.  Not only do you lose the guide freeze-up, it's easier to get deeper where the steel are holding low in the column.

Why not bring both.. Freezing temps I bring both, heck the weight vs gas is minimal ..

Plenty of river, plenty of fish.. They are there it's a matter of catching them at times..

I don't like fighting with Iced up guides ( not an issue now) so I'll throw a fine line if conditions dictate or struggle to over come  my /your choice. Many times my frozen brain, hands & feet never make the right choice.lol..
Too many rods, too many choices.. Dumb creatures (suckers) we are..
It pays when battling the elements as much as the fish to keep things as simple as knots..

I Like catching fish on my fly rod with hand tied flies and feeling the rush ..  My move most of the time..
You can toss a fly on a spinning rod too..  Been there, do that..
I'm no fool however.. What works , works well when you find the zone..

Good luck and there are good folks here to share water with..

    seriously now that i have some time;
for spin outfit i use a 10 ft pinnicle rod, shamano sedona reel, with 10 lb main line, usually one or two shot as small as i can get away with and fish egg sacks

for the fly rod, 9ft 8w with a matching reel, weight foreward floating fly line with one small split shot and usually an estez egg or a wooley bugger....usually 10 lb tippet, 8 or 6 if need be

    Big Bear-

    Multiplier reel- Martin 72!  LOL!!
Sash weights for split shot.  I could honestly make enough shot for nearly a season with one of the ones I hauled up around the ball park 2 weeks ago.  A loon would never get a chance to die of lead poisoning, it would choke to death trying to swallow these things.  I think a 12 gauge slug would be smaller!

how else can i get to the bottom on 185cfs if i din't use 5 #2 shot?
the pish tricke it is and i was hooking fish behind people wading within 10 feet of the bank they just crossed from.
who makes them cool light blue denum colored neoprenes.
i guess if you pay for them you feel you have to use all of them you can.

the reality is that they had so much weight on theirr line if they threw more than 15 feet of line they hung bottom before they could lift.

"remember lift up not sideways it will really effect your hook ups"

my hand to God i heard the group expert telling his crew this.
