Good day. Got some eggs now what New pic added
Had a good day and landed a few. Mix of Hos and Kings. Got one VERY fresh ho hen that did not even start to change color yet. Trouble is that they were not loose still in skein. So far just rinsed them and wrapped in news paper and in fridge. Never cures or used skein before. Should I use a salt cure or Go get some Borax in the AM. Salt cured my singles last year and they seemed good. I just plan on snipping off 4 to 5 egg chunks and freezing then tying into sacs. Thanks Clint

Clint i would go with the borax. working with skein is messy. be sur to open up all the spaces between rows and get the cure deep inside. once cured a bit i cut it into bait sized chunks and cover with fresh borax. if you get more eggs i suggest a couple layers of plain paper towel between the eggs and newspaper. i haven't seen it myself but it is said that the ink can lessen their effectiveness.

Well between me and my friend we landed 8 I think and only the one female. My other friend who can't fish any more has been bugging me for 2 years to get him a salmon to eat and this thing was a freshie. Thought it was a steel at first due to the color. Knew she wasn't close to popping, but kept her. In searching around I think I found a cure I like with salt, sugar and then borax coating in the end.

That's his egg fish from the title of the post, I bet. Nice pics, Clint- that is a pretty good size King. I had a big one on the other day for a good spell and walked it up and down and thought I had it pretty well whipped. I started getting its head up and working it towards the bank, but it kept drifting down as I did. Of course, it makes a last run and drops over the 3 foot falls at the tail of the pool. Say goodbye. Glad you got a good pic.

Great job and awesome pics Clint . That 4 legged creature better beware if it presents a photo op like that for me. I'll stick her. They finally decided I got enough from my garden 2 nights ago . Helped themselves to all that was left. Oh well , maybe they will taste like tomatoes when I grind em up.
Again awesome Clint . Chrome is next

Photo how too. you need to upload the photo to an online site like Photo bucket. Re size to like 600 x 700 or close. On Photo bucket copy the direct link. Click on the little tree above and it will say image URL paste the direct link in the box and enter.

Well here are the egg cures I used. For the skein I water hardened for 20 minutes and used a 2 cups salt and 1 cup sugar brine for 2 hours. let them dry until tacky and then coated with Borax and bagged into small baggies and then in a canning jar in the freezer. for the loose eggs I water hardened for 20 minutes and will soak them in a brine of 2 quarts water 1 cup sugar, 1 cup borax and 2 cups salt until they feel just right (soaking now). I will then air dry until tacky and coat with Borax and again in little baggies for about 3 dozen sacks and baggies in canning jars in freezer. Maybe add a little Anise to a batch or 2

It was one of the biggest I ever caught I am guessing around 30lb. We all know they look bigger when you hold them out, but man I had trouble holding it up. Took 3 tries to get a picture. I also took 4 hooks out of it. It seemed like I took 1 or 2 hooks out of every fish I caught. I was pretty high up so those fish saw alot of hardware. Fish just kind of snapped it, didn't really hit hard, was an egg fly in pink. Here I am getting a surprise. I really had to clean my boots when I got home.

Yea, I hated tailing them for fear of a hook in the hand. I did get about $5 in hooks though.
