R.I.P Brenda's well kind of

Wasn't sure if everyone knew this or not but my last trip Wed-Fri I stayed at Brenda's and while checking in she let me know that it was official she has sold the place and the closing was suppose to be yesterday. I know many people have things to stay about the place good and bad but I was never treated bad and I always came back from fishing to a clean room.

So with that said if your around and have stayed their before stop by and say good bye her and her husband are headed to Florida but will be back summers still to charter. We are losing some great people there and no worries the new guy is already looking for a fish cleaner. So lets hope things don't change too much.

No need to post a report we have heard it all and it's true in my 12 years fishing up there this is by far the best it's ever been hard to explain why with all the factors not there but enjoy.

Not to be offensive, but, words can explain it and I hope people still put in reports for us to read and pics to look at, even though the fishing is good. Part of being on a forum is to share your experience so others can feel like they were there. It's great entertainment, especially to a bunch of shark/steel addicts like we are.  I understand what you guys mean, I just don't want to see it become a trend.    I hope this Mike fellow, who HT and I met last March, keeps the prices down. It's OK with the hot/cold heat cycles all night and the lumpy mattresses, but more than 20 bucks a head is not worth it in my opinion.  It's no surprise that the ex-husband next door, who charges 30 bucks a head, is often empty when Brenda's had a good number of rooms let.  For poor slobs like me, cheaper is better. I guess that holds true for a lot of us.

No offense taken at all charlie... i honestly toned my reports and sightings down a few weeks ago as it seemed to have spawned some negative feedback and minor disbelief... no biggie though, i enjoyed every moment of this early season :) i know troutbum knows what im talking about;)
I guess in reality everyone gets sifferent feelings and has different reasons for posting and reading these boards... your reports are great and id assume are enjoyed by all... always a pleasure to read them and see the pics.

Man, 20 bucks a night, that is cheaper than cheap!!! Id be shocked if it stays that low as brenda probably didnt need to charge much as she had old time establishment... a new business opening would most likely incurr higher overhead and monthly expenses... i hope the best for you loyal customers and best of luck to the new owners

No problem Fichy just didn't want to repeat everything everyone else was saying. But I will share a thing about my trip because there is always something that makes you smile. I was fishing between the two riffs below the 2A bridge and was having a good day on Wednesday when late morning early afternoon a father with two kids shows up the youngest 11 and sometime goes by and I hear fish on I look over and here is the young man battling a nice king on his fly rod I stopped fishing to watch him and his father fight this fish and with some help by dad. I personally walk over gave him five and grab his dad camera so he could be in the picture with his 2 boys. Nice family from CT got talking with him and he said he had nine more at home I about fell in the river.
Sometime goods by and the older boy netted a fish for me so the moral of the story there is plenty of good people out there but I know most of the time there is the bad ones that we talk about. So next time your on the water don't be upset if someone fishes near you introduce your self and let them know what's working. You never know that guy you ignore might pass you by if broken down on the thruway. To all best of luck and I suggest being Advil on your trip you'll need it. I fished for 3 days and didn't even leave the water for lunch fishing was too good and no crowds especially if your not afraid to walk.

That's what I'm talking about. That was a great report if I ever read one! Thanks.  And thanks for not getting upset. I didn't mean to be critical and you didn't take it that way.  Very good advice, too .  I've had days made on the river by strangers I fished with.

I fished it yesterday and had a blast with kings spawning/fighting/and running past me. Even had fun with some chrome hanging with the spawning kings enjoying the free meals. It is a shame to see people crowd each other like in the ballpark for some fish, where all they have to do is park upstream and WALK a little to find a whole lot of fish to themselves. But you can't fix lazy I guess, their loss. My 11 and 12 year old even landed some kings yesterday, its funny watching grown men fall all to pieces over one fish and my two girls do it and shrug it off as just another day catching fish. I didn't make this a seperate report because it is the same report I have been putting in, seen a pile of fish all day, caught and released all salmon and trout, left with big smiles and sore arms. I must say though at the hatchery I was depressed to see all those coho in there, but surprised to see no fish in the holding tanks. There is still a bunch of fish in the river and yet still to run. Its been an awesome season and its far from over.

I should indicate that one of the reasons I went to the ballpark area when I went last Thusday weas that it was late in the day and I only had about 2 hours of legal fishing time, so less walk more casts. Also, that area is where i go to get away from the crowds during Steel, when the LFZ becomes a crowded mass of cell phoners, and every person who fishes and gets an unemployment check seems to be camped out between the Altmar bridge and the Cove.

As to room rates, when we used to pay $15 or $20 a night at Sportsman's, DSR was $15 for salmon and $10 after 10/31.  If $45 is justifiable down there, what SHOULD a room cost?
I believe it costs what the market will bear.

$5 a head at jacks if my memory serves me.
of course you had to put up with the noise of someone doing his impression of a screamingclick  pawl drag while trying to explain why one would fish for steelfish to a perch fisherman at last call.
    good times.

    there was no DSR.

what does equate in room rates now.

I'm remembering $10 at Jack's, but it didn't even matter that the beds had come from some asaylum for the terminally overweight, and you needed a map and compass to find your way out of the canyons that formed in them, if you returned to the tent from the river and found 2" of water INSIDE the bathtub floor!  And yes, that was pre-DSR, the days of 200 quart coolers on the front of every pensyltucky truck, vomiting in the dawn from the insulting stench of salmong guts thrown in the bushes, and the 50+ bag trash piles left at the 13 pull off (now closed at taxpayer expense) that contributed greatly to the pay for play that is now institutionalized down there.  Ah, the good ol' days!

And I never made it to last call!  He generally closed early
