Junior Squirrel

This will be my daughters first hunting trip. I'm taking her and VP out to a buddies. She did really well on paper with a 22 and open sights. At about 30 she can whack a 12 oz water bottle 19 out of 20 times off hand. Anyone else going?

Can't wait.  My son just turned 8 and this is his 3rd year of Squirrel.  He has yet to connect, but is still very excited.  We started with a .22 Cricket, then 20 gauge youth w/ low bass and now got him on track with a .410 and 2.5 inch shells.  He is big for his age, but the 20 gauge and 3 inch .410 were a bit much.  He missed a lot of Reds and Fox Squirrels with the .22 the first two years, but thankfully does not care if he connects yet.   Weather looks good right now.......
I wish you and your daughter the best of luck!!!!

My daughter is still a little small framed....and now a little gunshy. She loves that 22 tho.

Up until this year she didn't want to shoot squirrels cause they were too cute. This was the first year she thought she could kill something.

She wont care if she connects either, being able to hunt with daddy is whats important to her.

Good luck to you and your boy as well....I hope they both draw first blood and we have that first hero shot to share.

I remember being super excited about the youth hunt when I was 12-16.  Good luck to all who get out!

It's a little too early for him to be doing any of the shooting, but I'm going to be taking my 5yr old boy out for squirrels next Saturday. This will be his second trip out hunting with me.

I took my son out when he was around 4 or 5, he used his cap pistol and I managed to pull the trigger on the 22 at the same time he shot, he still thinks he shot that squirrel...

Curiosity killed the cat, but for awhile I was a suspect.

I did the same thing with my nephew. We took him dove hunting and he brought his BB gun. I told him he got that 1 because I was shootin in the other direction.

    Harsh, dUUd!

Not so much because of the implication, but more because it made me realize just how long ago that was.

I'm going to sit the duck opener out and take my son for squirrel.  He would hunt duck if he were allowed. The following week were going to tag along to see mounter kerrs run squirrel. should be interesting.  I have never seen those dogs work before.

    Way to go crew!

Saturday was not a good day, we didn't even see a chippy.  Today after work the woods were much more active.  The little guy wanted to use my .22,  I agreed and boy I was glad.  He missed about 4-5 reds before he connected with a big fox with one shot.  He was one happy boy!  Will try to load a pic from my phone, if I can!
