report Wed Turs Fri Sat
Got in late Wed and watched the needle from the deck-many fish screaming up through the gauntlet for half an hour before dark. Not my cupa tea.
Thurs lawn and house all AM and up into the Vines and down to Tressel in the PM till bout dark. Players Players mostly on #6 and #8 black and green Spey flys ( using switch rod) with green tinsel for a thin body. Not a ton of fish but pretty much all to myself up there. GREAT. The fish were at ease and willing. Not much running - most were homebodys just holding in place nice and calm and unmolested- some beds around but nothing on them.
Got into the Hos on the turn above Tressel later in the PM using a small pink fly on about a number 8 hook - Oriental guy across the pool throwing about 3 lb of wt cast over my line on each of 3 hookups- he would see some surface action - go nuts yelling to his friends - cross my line and think he had caught the fish each time. GONZO- I busted of two foul hooked ones in that same spot as well - they were in there and VERY willing. Never saw another- just that pod.
Friday went above Pineville and 72 bridges a ways and worked back down to each. Lost my last Spey fly too- more players. Watched some spawners for a while well above Pineville. A few guys came by while I sat there and I just yelled out - noting in this run- they all walked right past.
Went back to the beds this afternoon bout 1 PM and the fish were gone so I tried my luck with some runners who would stop for a bit ( few) with no takers. Let the runners run. There were NOT that many fish or folks upriver as yet considering the reports last week from down low.
This afternoon two young first timers walked up and down trough the running channel hunting to the anger of everyone around. Had guys about 50 yds above and 75 yds below me all telling these kids off. Me too when they walked 10 yds in front of me through the small pool and right through yesterdays bed. No action today on the bed. .
Watched one of them right outa sight twice underwater-kept fallin in his rubber bottom boots- went over to where he was taking his boots off and told them why everyone was yelling at them and gave a half hour tutorial- turned out they were interested and going nuts cause of the big fish. They will be back. Made my 3 hour poor fishing day worthwhile though.
Great trip cept of the follies which are bound to increase for a month or so.
