You guys won't believe me.
My bio professor wanted to go catfishing today. We went to the mouth of Sh*t creek and tried our luck. I was getting a few really light bites when I felt a big tug; since I was catfishing, I only had my ultralight spin rod. I was stunned to see a moderate sized steelhead jump out of the water. It broke my 4lb mono just as I was putting the net down. I know, I know - no pic, it didn't happen. Just wanted to share.

I believe you duud. Too bad you didn't net him. Would have been a nice catch for an ultralite. However, I'd like to ask why you were fishing for catfish with an ultralite spooled with 4lb mono? When I target cats, I go much heavier. Of course, I'm fishing for 10+lb channel cats. Also, cats are definately not line shy, so why such light line? Just wandering.
Oh, are you the guy that fishes for cancerous bullheads? If you were after bullheads, that would explain the lite tackle.

I am the guy fishing for cancerous bullheads. Also, I know nothing at all about catfishing so that would explain the ultralite.

HAHAHA! I see. LOL! If I were you, I'd get a noodle rod and put 4lb on. That way if you do end up with a bigger fish, you'll have a much better chance of getting him in. Bet that was a helluva fight though.

I'd get a noodle rod like slabdaddy suggested, can still use 4lb mono but land a bullhead or a steelhead.
On my first trip ever for Steelhead I took a regular light weight moderate action 6' spin rod. On my first hook up that thing was fully collapsed over at the handle with zero backbone left, couldn't believe it didn't break.

Steelhead actually run up the **** creek they actually put smolt in there and somethings theres okay numbers. Theres just so little space to fish, theres crap in the water, and you can no longer wade up anymore since the magangement plant put the barrier up. But its nice to see that fish are coming into the bay and in there right now b****1990

The creek was much cleaner than I thought it was going to be. I expected some gunk-ridden slop, but was actually impressed. I still wouldn't want to eat from there.

I've been up the same creek. A few times I even lost my paddle and had to jump in and tow my boat to shore.

People catfish on trotlines using ropes. Acourse they are not line shy.
